Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

E-Z Lube and Easy Grease-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube or etrailer Easy Grease axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Replacement Hub and Spindle for Dexter 69-46 Axle
The Dexter 69-46 axle has a straight spindle with # L44649 bearings. For a replacement spindle you can use the BTR E-Z Lube Spindle for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles # TRU44FR. Then for an idler hub, the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles # AKIHUB-545-2-EZ-2K would be a great replacement. If you're looking for a hub and drum assembly then the # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K is what you need instead.

  • Recommended 2,000 Lb Trailer Axle with Brakes for Small Trailer
The best option we could provide you with is the Trailer Idler Axle Beam part # e48GR which measures 60" long and has a 2,000 lb weight capacity. It's not setup for brakes so in order to equip them you'd need to have a brake mounting flange welded on, the Brake Mounting Flange for 1-3/4" Round Trailer Axles part # 4-34. This will then allow you to add brakes like the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-2 and hubs/drums like the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 2K Axles...

  • Can I Change My Hubs From A 14" Wheel To A 10" Wheel?
Hello Calvin. That is an interesting question. Usually, most folks want to go with larger wheels instead of smaller. The main problem we are going to run in to here, it that the hubs that are made for a 10" wheel will not fit on an axle/spindle with a hub designed for a 14" wheel. For example the # AKHD-550-35-EZ-K hub is made to support wheels between 13" and 15" only. When we go down in size we get to a hub/drum such as part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K. This hub will support a 10" wheel, but...

  • Need New Hubs And Brake Assemblies For A 2003 Airliner Camper With A 2,000 lb Axle
Good morning Janine. The 2,000 lb axles generally will use the 7 x 1-1/4 Inch assemblies like part # AKEBRK-2 along with a 7" drum. Most 2,000 lb axles will have a straight spindle that uses either the # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) bearings or a # L44643 (1" inner diameter) bearings. I do not have a way to know exactly what bearing size your 2003 Airliner Camper uses, so your best bet will be to remove one of the hubs and unpack the bearings. Each bearing should have a number stamped...

  • Availability of Replacement Hub for AL-KO 8440
Hi Kevin; I agree and would say that the # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K will give you the same result. Unfortunately, this seems to be a classic case of AL-KO parts not matching industry standards. AL-KO is no longer around, and many of their axles/spindles/hubs didn't match up with other brands. You might be able to find some old AL-KO parts out there but we don't carry them anymore. The best solution I can offer is complete axle replacement. Since none of our 2k axles have a brake flange the universal...

  • Do You Carry a QuickTrim Hub Cover for My Wheel that has 5 on 4.25" Bolt Pattern?
Hello Joe, We do not carry anything in that size. When I look up that bolt pattern I see that it is common on some Fords, Lincolns, Volvos, and Jaguars. When it comes to the trailer world it is listed as "very rare". It might be worth updating your hubs and wheel to a more common bolt pattern. For an idler hub you could go with # AKIHUB-545-2-LF-2K, if you have brakes # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K. For tires and wheels you could go with the Kenda Karrier ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire with 12"...

Based on your manual indicating 7" brakes it is probably a 2,000 lb axle. That should be a 4-bolt brake flange on the axle as well. Try checking your axle tag to see if you can verify this. You will need the following parts to add brakes: -Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 7" - 5 on 4-1/2 # 8-257-5UC3 -Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 7" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - - 2,000- to 2,200-lbs...

We have hubs that fit your spindle but they are 10 inch drums like you said wouldn't work. We don't have any that would fit that have a drum that's smaller. If by chance both of your bearings are L44649 you could use the part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K which has the bolt pattern you need and the drum is 7 inch.

  • Complete Electric Brake Installation for 2,000 lb Trailer Axle
With the axle measurement and the bearing number, I can confirm that you have 2,000 lb capacity axles on your trailers. You will want to get the Brake Mounting Flange, # 4-34, to weld onto each side of each axle. With that flange in place, you will want to mount the 7 inch Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # AKEBRK-2L on the left side of the axle and the # AKEBRK-2R on the right side of the axle. These are nearly identical parts, but installing on the correct side is very important....

We can definitely get you all the parts needed to add brakes to your trailer, but it is going to be an extensive list since there currently isn't anything on the axle. • Why Dont 2,000 Lb Trailer Axles Comes with a Brake Mounting Flange
A 2,000 lb trailer axle like the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam part # T20BTR-7258 is not going to come equipped from the manufacturer with a brake mounting flange because of the weight of the trailer it is designed to be used on. However, most qualified welders can add the brake mounting flange part # 4-34 for a very small fee. The Dexter Trailer Axle has a 2,000 lb weight capacity, 58" spring center, and 72" hub face length. It uses a L44649 bearing on both the inner and outer seats. Once...
