What Parts are Needed to Add Brake Components to 2,000 lb Rated Torsion Axle

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/14/2025

Question:

Hi! I have an Aluma single axle trailer with a 2000 torsion axle . However it has 13inch wheels with a 5 by 4.5 hub bolt pattern. I am wanting to put a set of 10inch brakes and drums on it but i am concerned about the spindle compatibility. Without pulling the hub i dont know the spindle dimensions. Are they compatible with the 3500 spindle brakes? Thanks.

Hey David, so a 2,000 lb torsion axle is going to use 2,000 lb axle brake components...unless it's like an off-road trailer and then the spindles might have been upgraded to 3,500 but that's pretty rare and really only found with Timbren brand axle less setups.

For a 2,000 lb axle the brake drum size is 7 inch like the part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K. This would require assemblies like the # AKEBRK-2. Is there a reason you wanted to go with a 10 inch drum setup?

Hey David, did you end up staying with the 7-inch brake setup for your Aluma trailer or try something different? Your results could help others wondering about axle and spindle compatibility on similar trailers.
