Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Upgraded my hubs and added electric brakes to my Aliner. As usual with etrailer, great product and even better customer service. I originally ordered the wrong size and etrailer worked with me to determine the correct size for my trailer. They then sent out the new parts and gave me a full refund on returned parts. New hubs and brakes work flawlessly.

- AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K

Been using it for over a year now on my pop up camper and has been very dependable.

  • Correct Hub and Bearings for my 2,000 lb Flexride Torsion Axle with 14 Wheels and 7 Brakes
The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K is rated for use with 2,000 lb. axles like yours. If your current wheel has a 5 lug pattern it narrows it down further. In this size category there is a BT8 spindle and a BTR spindle. There is a very minor difference between the and it is spindle size. The BT8 which these hubs fit are 1" exactly in diameter the BTR spindles are 1.063" in diameter which is about 1-1/16" but almost impossible to tell apart outside of using a caliper...

  • What is the Difference Between the 1k and 2k Hubs for EZ Lube Axles
The difference between the # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K and # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K is what bearing is used, and they are not interchangeable. If your spindle uses an # L44643 bearing in the hubs then you'll need the 1k, and if your hub uses the # L44649 then you'll need the 2k.

  • What Size Brake Assemblies Will Fit with 12 inch Diameter Wheels
Since you have 12 inch wheels you would have to go with a smaller hub/drum to fit underneath them. The standard size that would fit under a 12 inch rim is 7 x 1-3/4 like the part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K which fits most 2k axles. But first we need to figure out what spindles you have on your trailer so that we can determine which hub/drum would fit and then build from there. The # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K would work if the bearings in your current hub are both L44643. If you check out the link...

  • Parts Needed to Add Brakes to a Trailer with 2,000 lb Axle Spindles
Since the spindles you have installed are BT8 2,000 lb axle spindles without brake mounting flanges you are going to need the hubs part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K which you'll notice has a 5 bolt wheel bolt pattern. This is because the 4 bolt pattern isn't available with a hub/drum. Then for brake assemblies you'd want the set # AKEBRK-2, for brake flanges part # 4-34, and then for new wheels I attached a link to a page that has everything we offer with the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

Your spindle is an older agricultural spindle that we do not offer hubs or bearings for I recommend changing your spindles or axles to accommodate more readily available hubs. For spindles you can weld on the BT8 Spindle for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles - 1-1/4" Diameter # TRU94FR which will allow you to use Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 # 34822545BX and Trailer Hub and...

If you need a set of braking assemblies to use with them, I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-2. These assemblies have pads that are 1-1/4" wide though you could use larger should you need to do so.

  • How To Choose Correct Electric Brakes for Boat Trailer with 13" Wheels
The correct brakes and hubs/drums will be chosen based on the axle capacity. If the trailer came with 13" wheels then it likely has a 2,000 lb or 2,200 lb axle, not 3,500 lbs. If you have a 2,000 lb or 2,200 lb axle then I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-2 with the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K.
