E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Availability of Dexter Axle Brake Assemblies K23-026-00 and K23-027-00
We do have the regular Dexter Axle brakes and their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents. The regular (manually adjusted) brakes that you are wanting are listed as part # 23-26 for the Left Hand side and part # 23-27 for the Right Hand side. Their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents are parts # 23-468 and # 23-469 respectively. The Dexter Axle hub and drum assemblies that we have for a 3,500 lb axle use the Inner Bearing # L68149 and Outer Bearing # L44649. If you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern then you want...

  • Difference Between Dexter and etrailer Hub/Drum Assembly for 3,500 lb Axles
Hi Rusty; the Dexter # 84546UC3-EZ and etrailer # AKHD-5475-35-K will both fit a 3,500 lb axle but they have different bolt patterns. You already ordered the Dexter in the past so I'm assuming your wheels are 5 on 4-1/2. For the same bolt pattern on an etrailer hub and drum assembly you need the # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. I'm sure you're also wondering about the price difference. The Dexter name generally carries a higher price while the etrailer hub is our house brand so we are able to keep the...

Hey Matt, thanks for the pictures of your spindle dimensions. The bearing numbers you mentioned are correct so for a replacement hub/drum you'd need a 3,500 lb axle hub like the part # 84546UC3-EZ.

  • How to Determine the Correct Hub for My MacGregor Sailboat Trailer
Determining the correct wheel bearings, seals or hubs for a trailer is normally done by using the existing inner and outer wheel bearing part numbers and grease seal part number. This is the only way to be sure that the correct parts are ordered. The bearing part numbers will ensure that you get the proper size and weight capacity parts for your application. When replacing the hub you will also need to be sure that you measure the wheel bolt pattern (see link) and, if the axle capacity...

  • How to Use Dexter Axles and Nev-R-Adjust Brakes
If you are looking for a new axle, too, the axle capacity you need would be based off of both the axle capacity you have now and the gross trailer weight (GTW) of the trailer. The axle kits do not include leaf springs. They would need to be purchased separately if you wanted to replace them. In order to recommend the correct axle for you, I would need to know the distance from the center of each spring seat and the distance between the hub faces (see photo). For example, the Dexter Trailer...

  • Lifting and Improving Ride Quality on a 2001 Casita Liberty Deluxe 17 Travel Trailer Torsion Axle
The best option for lifting your torsion axle and getting a better ride quality would involve changing over to a Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension. They have a couple options that will incorporate a lift right in the spindle. A 2" Lift # TASR35HDS07 or a 4" Lift # ASR3500S06. These utilize a rubber suspension system that each work independently of each other. This will offer you a better and smoother ride quality. There is a 2,000 lb capacity Timbren Axle-Less Suspension with 4" Drop Spindle # ASR2KHDS09, though not a 1,200 lb one. I am not certain what you are referring to in terms of "strong enough" but it will work with 3,500 lb rated hub and drum assemblies # 84546UC3-EZ as well as 3,500 lb brakes. Trailer axles like the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - 4" Lift Spindle - Regular Tires - 3,500 lbs # ASR3500S06 you were looking at are designed to work with trailer wheels that have 0 offset, so you will want to make sure the wheel you use has 0 offset. • Will Timbren Axle-Less System Allow Lower Deck Height on Trailer?
There is a Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System which will allow you to lower your deck height, though it won't give you quite the amount you are looking for. The Timbren # A35RD545E has a 4-inch drop spindle so it will lower your deck height by that much. This system comes with electric brakes and hubs with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. You would be able to use a wheel and tire combination such as the Provider # TA82MR which have 14-inch wheels and a total diameter of 26.1 inches.

  • Troubleshooting Grease Seal Leaking on 3,500 lb Axle
Thanks for reaching out, Ron! To replace the grease seal on your Dexter Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly # 84546UC3-EZ (Dexter part K08-247-94) you can either get part # 58846 for a single seal or part # RG06-050 for a set of seals. If you've inspected the hub for burrs or anything that could damage the seal then you might want to check the spindle as well to make sure nothing on that part of your setup is causing the problem. Should all of that look okay then I recommend taking your setup...

It does not include a hub. I can tell your magnets are basically toast, the brake pads look thin, and your hub/drums look like they are in bad shape too so your best option is to go with new assemblies left and right with the part # 23-468-469 and then new hub/drums too which for that you'd need the part # 84546UC3-EZ.
