Bunk Boards

These carpeted bunk boards provide hull support for your boat during transport and storage. Each 6-foot-long board is wrapped in weather-resistant, marine-grade black carpet. You can run the bunk boards front to back for traditionally shaped hulls or side to side for flat-bottom boats, kayaks and inflatables.

To attach the bunk boards to the front and rear crossmembers of your trailer frame, use existing brackets or a four-pack of swivel mounting brackets (CE10000G-4, CE10001G-4 or C10002G-4 - sold separately). These brackets allow you to install the bunk boards at different heights. In addition, they enable the bunk boards to tilt to accommodate and support boat hulls of different sizes.

Video Transcript for CE Smith Boat Trailer Carpeted Bunk Boards Review

Kevin Bross: Today we're gonna be taking a look at the CE Smith carpeted bunk boards for boat trailers. Available in three, four, five and six foot lengths. Here you can see our bunk board's in place. Now, these are designed to support the whole of your boat as you're heading down the road. They're wrapped, as you can see, in marine grade black carpeting. This is gonna be strong, soft and very weather resistant. It's designed to not scratch your hull as you're coming on and off.

It dries out very rapidly. So we don't have to worry about water sitting on it for a long time. And it's mildew resistant. They also have complete copper-free manufacturing. So, even with steel or aluminum hulls, they're gonna be just fine. Now, as we said, there are different lengths available.

The three, four, five and six foot lengths. All of them are gonna be about an inch and three quarters thick, and they're gonna be about three and three quarters inch wide. Now, you can install your bunk boards in a couple different ways. If you already have brackets mounted to your trailer then just use the hardware here to attach it.If you don't have these, also from CE Smith, we hae the adjustable, not only with the pitch in which our board will sit, but the height. So we really customize it to our trailer.

And it'll be a four pack. So just get as many as you need. Now, we're gonna reuse the in bolts that we're existing previously. Just replacing our brackets here.If you need the U-bolts, the part number is CE15502A. And you'll need one for each bracket.

You can see the dots here on the face. I like to use those as kind of a reference point so I can get them on here nice and level. Now, you'll want to use three eighths washers and lock nuts if you're gonna be using the U-bolt that we recommended. Gonna place those on. And I'm gonna take most of the slack out of these. Then you'll just get those set where you need them. Now, with each boat, that's gonna be a little big different. You might them a little bit farther out or a little bit closer in. Just look at the hull design and determine where you're gonna need them at. Once you've got your width set and you get your height where you want it then we'll just tighten it down. Always a good idea just to double check after you've tightened it down. Make sure it hasn't moved. And you'll be ready to set the pitch on the top here. Now, our application is a flat bottom jon boat. So these are gonna be set flat. But it's nice that you have the adjustability so you can angle these at the direction you need. Now we're gonna place our bunk right on top. Once we have these centered left and right, we have them in the position we want, I'm gonna use a marker and I'm gonna mark the carpet right there. We'll mark it at all four of our hull locations. Now, as we put our screws through to secure the bunks to our brackets, whether you're using this style, or your own, the screws have a tendency to grab that carpet and want to twist it a little bit. Use a small piece of brake on, or in this case we're gonna use a little union. We get it heated up really well using a little torch. And we'll go right down over that hole. And see it's gonna create an opening there. And it also seals the carpet's edge to make sure it won't rip or tear from there. But that'll allow us a great area to get our bolts in there without tearing or pulling that carpet.Next I'm gonna use an eighth inch drill bit and get a little pilot hole going. This'll allow the screws to go in without splitting the bunk. Once we have our pilot hole started we'll enlarge it to a quarter inch. Just, of course, want to be sure you don't screw all the way through the bunk. All right. We'll do the same thing for the other end.Now we're ready to flip our bunk back over. We'll just line those holes up with our brackets. And we're place in stainless steel lag bolts and washers. Get it started. And then secured down using a 14 millimeter wrench. Now we can head to the front and do the same thing there. That's gonna complete our look at the CE Smith carpeted bunk boards.

Was putting off purchasing these to replace an old pair, take my advise and never wait. The ones I had didn’t look too bad but one gave out and the ski was resting in the trailer frame. The new bunks are a lot better quality than my old ones and we’re really easy to install. They arrived quickly too. 669491

Arrived as advertised. On the trailer now and functioning well. One concern: no carpet glue was used so carpet is only secured by the staples. It slides a little on the board, but does not appear to present a problem in normal use. Another concern: the wood underneath does not appear to be treated lumber. These are meant to be used in and out of the water, so hopefully they will last. Time will tell. Working well now. 422841

First off, I want to say that the products that I ordered from etrailer.com were of high quality and were easy to install, and lets not forget about the fast shipping and my favorite - the personal touch added to the email communications where each one is signed by a human (rather than something generic). My project itself entailed replacing the two (original) vertical mount 4' bunks on my boat trailer (see the attached pictures). These were set-up to hold a 15' sailboat. I recently purchased a 12' (plastic) jon boat, and I felt that the jon boat needed better support on the trailer so that it didn't warp or dent. After doing a lot of research, I decided to go with two horizontal mount 6' bunks. They were pre-finished at a cost less than if I were to purchase the individual components (wood, glue, carpet, staples, etc.) and do the assembly work myself. Attaching the hardware and mounting them to the trailer was a snap - see the attached pictures for the finished setup. 126128

Bought these for simplicity even though in my opinion they are overpriced for what they are. A pressure treated 2x4 and some exterior carpet or old fire hose (likely for free from fire station) will get it done cheaper. My complaint about these is etrailer's recommended brackets, which BARELY fit onto thexe 2x4 bunks. The mounting holes are very close to the outside edge of the bunks, and you are mounting them with very large lag screws (not included with these or the brackets). 328131

The carpeted bunk boards arrived a day early--which was nice, and appreciated. But, when I cut the plastic bands that held the two together, one was perfect and the other one was warped. It was not so bad that I could not use it, but none the less, it was (is) warped. With a slight modification to the support bracket I made it work----but it still would have been nice if they both would have been straight! 525987

  • How To Replace 18 Foot Long Bunk Boards On a Pontoon Boat Trailer
I think the best option for your pontoon boat trailer would be to break the 18' long bunk boards down into three sections which then leaves 6' for each section. The shorter each board is, the more support you will have to a degree which is why I recommend this route. If one of them breaks you will only need to replace a small section as well. You'll need one roll per bunk, which means you'll have some scrap left over, but if you're anything like me you'll find a use for the scrap. • Choosing Carpeted Boat Trailer Bunks vs. Roller Bunks
You will want to choose carpeted boat trailer bunks to more or less match the hull profile of your boat. By this I mean that if the bow end of the hull had a steep upward slope so that only about 12-feet of the boat's total 16-foot length would be resting on the bunks then you should be fine using two 6-foot bunks # CE27840 per side. If you are replacing original bunks I would stick with the size supplied originally by the trailer maker. You might google search the trailer model to see...

  • How Long of Bunks for a 12 Foot Long Porta Boat
The general rule of thumb is that you want your bunks to extend completely to the stern (rear) of the boat, or even and inch or two beyond. That way the transom has plenty of support as you drive down the road. The bunks can extend as far forward as you like really, but I think you'll find that about half the length of the boat is usually enough as the front of the boat is generally supported by the bow stop on the trailer.
