Features to know about

Quick Repairs on the Road: Pre-Greased and Ready to Go

When you’re stuck mid-trip with a bad hub, the last thing you want is to waste time packing bearings. This hub-and-drum assembly comes pre-greased with lithium complex, multipurpose grease so it’s ready to bolt on right out of the box. The bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap, and lug nuts are all included, which makes it an easy, all-in-one fix when you need to swap parts in a hurry.

Easy Brake Setup: Works with Electric or Hydraulic Systems

Whether you’re running electric brakes or sticking with hydraulic, this 7" diameter hub-and-drum assembly makes setup simple. It provides a smooth braking surface for your shoes to grab when you hit the brakes and is tested and certified by QAI and CSA for safe, consistent performance. It’s compatible with 7" brake assemblies and fits axles rated up to 2,000 lbs with BTR spindles, so you’ve got a solid fit for light-duty towing jobs.

Built Tough for Regular Use: Iron Construction with Zinc Protection

Rust and corrosion can turn a simple job into a mess, especially when moisture or road salt gets involved. The sturdy iron drum is finished with zinc-enriched paint for extra durability, and the zinc-coated bolts add another layer of protection. It’s a solid setup that holds up to long hauls and harsh conditions without falling apart.

Straightforward Fitment: Standard 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern

Getting the right fit matters when you’re dealing with older or custom trailers. This assembly uses a standard 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern with 1/2" diameter x 1-1/4" long wheel studs, so finding matching wheels is easy. The hub’s inner and outer bearings are both L44649 (1.063" inner diameter), making it a direct match for common light-duty axle setups.

Reliable Performance Tested for Safety

This assembly isn’t just built to spec—it’s been tested under real-world conditions for braking performance and stopping distance. That means you can count on it to hold up under load, provide smooth braking, and keep your trailer tracking straight mile after mile.

Determining Bolt Pattern

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

The assembly seems high quality, and it came quick. Unfortunately, the dust cover doesn't actually fit in the hub. I measured, and it's too large. The old dust covers fit right in, so I think what's included in the kit is just the incorrect size. I let their customer service know, and they haven't responded.
Overall, I'm happy with the purchase, but disappointed that I'll have to find replacement dust covers, since my old ones aren't in great shape from wear and from taking them off.

After one year still the trailer working good. I took my vintage HiPoint fiberglass Motocross, and added an additional pair of brakes. 2 axles, just one set of brakes from the factory as the trailer was so light, as the other axle had the mounting plate, for back up I figured it was a good insurance. Everything fit, bearings backing plates, and the drums tracked correctly behind the originals. Also added vents on both sides as there were none in it.

Just took delivery yesterday but from what I've seen the fit and finish look great and I'll feel much better once the trailer has brakes. Thanks.

I cracked a wheel hub changing bearings and races on my pop up camper. It's a smaller hub so nowhere in town had one. I called etrailer with the dimensions and it was a perfect fit. Excellent customer service from beginning to end. Within a few days of ordering we were back on the road. Thanks etrailer!

As other reviewers have stated: getting hubs without this mystery grease would be better. All that the item description page says is that its "Lithium complex, multipurpose grease", which means that it has additives, and it's those very additives that cause problems when two incompatible greases are mixed. Consequently either that same grease has to be used for the life of the hubs or they and their bearings have got to be cleaned out so that a known grease can be used. Since calls (plural) to etrailer only produce speculation as to what grease might be compatible then that junk has to come out, with the best time to expend the non-trivial effort and dollars to remove and replace it being at installation.

The box was absolutely destroyed when I received it. Luckily nothing had fallen out. Otherwise it was as described and fit well.

  • Recommended Parts To Add Hydraulic Trailer Brakes To 2014 Shorelander Trailer For 20 Pontoon
Thank you for the pictures! We do offer a trailer brake option that will work with the 10" wheels on your 2014 Shorelander Trailer. Since the trailer will be in water you will want to use the Dexter Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit # 23-398-399 which includes both left and right assemblies and is for hydraulic brakes and will bolt the 4 bolt brake flange found on your axles that I was able to see in your picture. Since you have 5 lug wheels you will likely need Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly...

  • Are there Brakes for a 8" Wheel?
Sorry I do not know of anyone who makes brakes small enough to use on a 8" wheel. The smallest ones we carry are the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 2K Axles - 7" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 - L44649 - Pre-Greased item # AKHD-545-2-2K. They measure 7-5/8" diameter x 2-7/16" wide and work with wheels as small as 10". I would say the lack of brakes for trailer's and wheels that small has to do with them not being legally required in the majority of the country.

I have a solution for you, but the # AKUBRK-35-D are 10" brakes and will be too large for the hub/drum assemblies that fit on your axle. Instead you'll want to use the Dexter # 23-398-399 which are a 7" brake assembly that can be used with wheels between 10" and 13" diameter. It sounds like you also need new hubs, so you can use the etrailer Axle Tech # AKHD-545-2-2K which are a 2000-lb capacity and have # L44649 inner and outer bearings to match your specifications.
