Parts Needed to Add Electric Brakes to 2007 Kendon Utility Trailer

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 10/03/2025

Question:

I have been looking at adding electric brakes to my 2007 Kendon dual rail standup utility trailer. I have a question about what brake drums I can use. My trailer already has a mounting plate on the axle for the 7 pad assemblies 23-47-48. The biggest question for you is what brake drums I can use. The axle tag on the trailer is from Tie down engineering 7367709 with a max cap of 2200 lbs. I see that there are drums for 2000 lbs, 2200 lbs and 2000/2200 lbs. I was thinking of going with the AKHD-545-2-2K drums as they have the same bearing part number from another google search on replacement bearings for my trailer L44649. Will these be compatible with my axle? If not, can you recommend another option. Thank you in advance, Jacob

Hi Jacob; as long as you confirm you have # L44649 inner and outer bearings the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-2-2K will fit. Keep in mind, these are rated for a 2k axle so your capacity will be slightly lower with the hubs installed.

For brakes you can use the etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-2 which match the brake flange measurements in the attached picture. You will also need mounting hardware # BRKH7.

If you don't already have a 7-way on your trailer you can add one using the # HS381-9000. You will also need additional wire # 10-1-1 to run to the brake assemblies and a breakaway like # 3802308.

Will you be towing this with your 2015 VW Golf? If so, do you already have a 7-way and a brake controller?

Hey Jacob, how did the hub and drum setup work out on your Kendon trailer? Did the 2K assemblies fit well with your existing brake flanges and bearings? Your update could make it easier for others upgrading similar light-duty trailers.
