How to Determine Correct Replacement Axles for Older Trailer

Hi there...I have a 1968 23 foot Silver Streak Sabre travel trailer and am trying to replace the axles, brakes and wheels most likely. I do not know what the axle # is? And am trying to find the right parts for this job. Thanks!

When it comes to replacement parts for trailers - no matter if they're cool vintage ones like your 1968 Silver Streak Sabre or new, off-the-lot trailers - there isn't any type of database or other method that is available to know what is needed, which means some information and measurements are needed to make sure you get the right parts. I wasn't able to find an exact GVWR of this trailer, but it looks like it is in the 3,500 lb range; you'll need to verify this but if it is true, that means a pair of 2,000 lb axles will work, though you do need to get the right length.
To get the right replacement axle you will need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center as in the diagram I have added. For example the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with Standard Spindles # T20BTR-7258 has a 2,000 lb capacity and measures 72 inches from hub face to hub face and 58 inches from spring center to spring center.
With this you will need the hub and drum that fits the spindle, which for this is the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 2K Axles - 7" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 # AKHD-545-2-2K. The brakes will then need to fit inside the drum, but first you'll need to have Brake Mounting Flange for 1-3/4" Round Trailer Axles # 4-34 welded onto the axle. This will allow you to use the appropriate electric brakes, the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 7" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 2,000 lbs # AKEBRK-2.
Finally, for wheels, you'll just need to get ones that match the bolt pattern of your hub, which for the aforementioned hubs is 5 on 4-1/2".
