Kodiak Trailer Brakes - KOD59FR

Highlights

  • Stops Smooth and Fast: Disc brakes cut stopping distance and keep braking consistent even at highway speeds.
  • Fights Rust and Salt: Dacromet hub-rotors (300–400 hr) and KodaGuard calipers (500–600 hr) resist corrosion in wet or coastal use.
  • Saves Time on Upgrades: 1-piece hub-and-rotor assembly comes preloaded with bearings, races, seals, caps, wheel bolts, and lug nuts.
  • Runs Cool and Lasts Longer: Vented rotor design disperses heat to prevent fade and extend pad life.
  • Built for 3,500-lb Axles: Works with #84 spindles, 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, and 13" or larger wheels.
  • Low-Maintenance Setup: Few moving parts and easily replaced ceramic pads reduce upkeep over time.

Features to know about

Upgrade From Drum to Disc: 10" Dacromet/KodaGuard Kit for 3,500-lb Axles

If you’re ready to move past the noise and fade of old drum brakes, this 10" Kodiak disc kit is a big step up. It’s built for 3,500-lb axles with a #84 spindle and a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. The one-piece hub-and-rotor design gives smooth, consistent braking and shorter stopping distances. Ceramic pads and a stainless steel piston deliver fast, responsive braking that feels solid every time you tow.

Built for Salt, Slush, and Spray: Dual Coating Fights Corrosion

Water and road salt can destroy unprotected brakes fast. Kodiak combines Dacromet plating on the hub-rotors and brackets—rated for 300 to 400 hours of salt spray—with a KodaGuard coating on the calipers that withstands 500 to 600 hours. It’s a strong combo for trailers exposed to freshwater or saltwater use, or roads treated for snow and ice.

Keeps Cool Under Load: Vented 1-Piece Rotors Prevent Fade

Disc brakes already shed heat better than drums, but these vented rotors take it further. The airflow through the core helps disperse heat so the pads last longer and braking stays consistent even on repeated stops. Because the hub and rotor are cast as one piece, water and debris can’t slip between them to cause runout or uneven wear.

DIY-Friendly Upgrade: Complete Bolt-On Kit With Bearings Installed

This kit comes ready with inner (L68149) and outer (L44649) bearings, races, grease seals, E-Z Lube caps, wheel bolts, and lug nuts—all pre-matched for one axle. Races are already installed in the hub/rotors, saving setup time. Mount the Dacromet-plated brackets with four stainless bolts, hook up your hydraulic lines to a 1,500 psi or higher actuator (sold separately), and you’re set for controlled disc braking without extra parts runs.

Built for Longevity: Simple Design With Minimal Maintenance

With no springs or cables to adjust, these brakes are nearly maintenance-free. The caliper sits outside the assembly for quick pad swaps when needed, and the side-support mount keeps weight off the bolts to reduce wear over time. High-quality automotive-grade materials and a 3-year warranty give confidence that this setup will keep working season after season.

The drum brakes on my 2000 4500-lb, dual-axle trailer were locking up and showing failure at some of the shoe linings. I decided to upgrade to disc brakes using a "electronic over hydraulic" (EOH) actuator, as I already had a Prodigy P2 trailer brake controller. The Kodiak Disc brake with KodaGuard was perfect for a trailer that launches in salt water. The installation was straight-forward, and as a precaution, I used stainless steel mounting bolts for the caliper mount.

Glad you like it, Scott! Since you said salt water launches, what kind of boat do you have? We had a 14' Boston Whaler growing up and that thing was pretty cool. Until we took it from one bay to another during heavy seas in San Diego. I think every one of us ended up getting sick that trip.

It showed up around 3:30 in a couple of hours I had one wheel done on my trailstar boat trailer. Fits up perfectly thanks again trailer you guys are the best.
by:
Easy installation and they work.
by:
Package with bearing were lose in box and no seals. Once notified e trailer sent seal fast
by:
Well made brakes, they sent wrong small bearings and refunded me the cost for the ones I got at auto store. Very nice results!!
by:
Brakes bolted right up on my 2001 DHM boat trailer, replacing the UFP brakes which were badly worn. The Kodiak brakes are great quality and ETrailer customer service was phenomenal. The original bearing buddies were badly worn so I installed the caps which came with the kit, but I will be ordering new bearing buddy caps soon.
by:
Finally completed the installation after dealing with a useless set of mounting hardware - see separate review. Recommending getting your own mounting hardware based on the dimensions of what you have to work with for axle mounting brackets.
Otherwise, the installation went together fine. Recommended watching the videos available on the website.
The hardware looks top quality. Awaiting road test.

These brakes have turned out well for me, as expected. They are so much more reliable and maintenance free than my old drum brakes. Make the changeover - pretty sure youll be glad you did.

Replaced brakes, lines, leaf springs and all new tires.everything is still running great. I would definitely recommend these products again. Quite a project for me to do by myself. But I have time, I’m retired.

A perfect fit and very easy to install!

I was hoping I would get completed order but I was very disappointed that the grease seals lug nuts cape arrived today but no brakes. I was giving only one tracking number and was expecting full order.

Haven't installed yet. looks as expected. Shipping was great, even though I ordered an out of stock item the communication was fantastic and arrived when they said it would. The box it came in had nice handle cuts in it for handling, It was actually still square when I received it. Nice quality work by all.
by:
wit out operating the trailer and it will not be used until the lake has lost it's ice in late April I will not know until then. Right now the snow in the driveway keeps me from even installing the brakes.

  • Replacement Dexter/Titan/Kodiak Disc Brake Assembly And Actuator For A Tandem Axle Trailer
Hey David, Yes, Dexter acquired Kodiak back in 2018 and has rebranded a lot of their components. Are you looking for an electric-over-hydraulic actuator, like the Dexter BrakeRite # DX82KR, or are you wanting a surge brake actuator like the Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout # T4747220? For the Kodiak disc brake assembly we offer kits with slip on rotors or hub/rotor and either 5/8" studs or 9/16" studs with an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern. We'll also want to check your...

  • What is Difference Between Kodaguard and Dacromet Coated 3,500 lb Kodiak Disc Brake Kits
Hey Scott, the difference between the Kodiak disc brake systems part # KOD59FR and # KOD67FR is the coating that is on the calipers. The part # KOD59FR has a Kodaguard coating on the caliper whereas the part # KOD67FR has a Dacromet coating like the rest of the kit. The Kodaguard option is the way to go though as it offers about twice as much corrosion resistance than Dacromet. Aside from that both of these are for 3,500 lb trailer axles and have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. If...

  • Which Port Should The Brake Line Attach To On Kodiak Disc Brake Kit KOD59FR
Hi Chris! I am not 100% sure why you have two lines going to each brake, but I think that was to daisy chain them together. This was supposed to make bleeding the brakes easier, but I'm not sure if it really did much or not. The Kodiak # KOD59FR you got will need to have the lines run from the actuator to each individual brake caliper. It will also need to be the middle port on the caliper that is connected to the brake line. The other two ports are for bleeding. I included a picture...

I am sorry the Kodiak Disc Brakes item # KOD27FR can not be converted to fit your spindle. In order for this to work on your trailer you would need to replace your spindles with item # TRU44FR. • How Can I Get More Durable, Effective Braking For My Enclosed Trailer?
Hello Bob, thanks for reaching out. If you are unhappy with the performance of the drum brakes, adding disc brakes will be a way to get a more effective, durable braking system. In order to switch over you will need a disc brake kit, brake line kit, and hydraulic brake actuator. This can be either a surge brake actuator, or electric over hydraulic. Here is what I recommend: - Kodiak Disc Brakes - 10" Hub/Rotor - 5 on 4-1/2 - Dacromet/KodaGuard - 3,500 lbs - E-Z Lube # KOD59FR - Kodiak...

  • Recommended Replacement 10" Disc Brake Kit for a Coyote Trailer for Saltwater Application
Thanks for reaching out, Sam! The Kodiak Disc Brakes # KOD59FR with the Dacromet/KodaGuard are definitely a solid choice, but the hub-rotors and brackets only have a 300- to 400-hour salt spray rating and the calipers have a 500- to 600-hour salt spray rating. At the very least I recommend using the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit # DE66YR because everything has the Maxx Coating that has over 1,000 hours salt spray rating. If you want the best of the best then the part # DE46YR is the same kit...
