  • Straight Tongue Coupler
  • Dexter

Use this actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow-vehicle brakes. Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on 2" hitch ball. Designed for hydraulic disc brakes and 3x5 straight tongue.

Features:

  • Hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops
  • Electric reverse lockout lets you back up without actuating trailer brakes
    • Solenoid activates automatically when you shift into reverse
  • Low-profile coupler latch ensures easy, secure connection
    • Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on hitch ball
  • Aluminum master cylinder is better at reducing corrosion than cast steel master cylinders
  • Zinc plating offers excellent corrosion resistance
  • Bolt-on installation
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: hydraulic disc brakes
  • Ball size: 2"
  • Mounting: 3" x 5" straight tongue
  • Capacity: 7,500 lbs
  • 2-Year limited warranty

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Finished drum to disc brake conversion on my 1993 year model Bass Cat trailer. Installation went smoothly and the UFP-A60 Actuator replaced the obsolete Atwood Actuator. Shortened the outer member a bit and added a 1" flat bar to the bottom for welding of 4" channel trailer frame.

by:

Fit was seemless to replace an old actuator with the impossible do get landed hitch latch. Changed brakes from drum to disk, and all new lines. What a difference in smoothness (and effectiveness) while braking. Electric lockout in reverse is also a nice feature. Just plusses all around. If you are replacing the same components be very patient with the bleeding process...it will take some time and a lot of pumping.

by:

Exactly what I needed. Didn't require the outer housing, the insider mechanism slid in nicely as a replacement on my trailer. The etrailer videos for installation and bleeding were very helpful.

Still working just fine after one year.

Delivery was very fast. Quality seems very good. Installation was super easy since my Shorelander swing tongue trailer has this standard hole pattern. I love how it looks and the extra foot of distance I get between the boat and my tow vehicle (so less chance of needing to get my feet wet or crawl through the SUV).

by:

Product arrived quickly (as always, thanks etrailer!) bolted direct to my shorelandr trailer without issue. it did not come with the reservoir cover or the manual lockout which was expected given it was a full tongue assembly. Also did not come with the manual (and specifically the spare breakaway clips in case the emergency cord is pulled). Save old lockout and reservoir cap if replacing a busted tongue!

It definitely should come with the cap, the lockout, and the manual. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

  • Wheels On Braking Axle Sit Slightly Farther Out Than The Non Braking Axle. Is This Normal?
It sounds like you are using a slip on rotor for your disc brake conversion. This will cause the wheels on the braking axle to sit slightly farther out than the wheels on the non-braking axle. This is due to the thickness of the rotor, which is is usually about 1/2"-3/4" or so. This is not going to be a cause for concern and there will not be any adverse effects. Some folks may use wheel spacers in this case, but we do not recommend doing that as they can be unsafe. You can go about towing...

  • Does The Dexter DX7.5L A-160 Brake Actuator W/ Electric Lockout DX56FR Work On A Tandem Trailer?
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout - Bolt On - Disc - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7.5K # DX56FR you were looking at is confirmed to work with tandem axle trailers like yours, and is a great option as long as your trailer uses disc brakes. I included a video of the # DX56FR for you to take a look at.

  • DX56FR Brake Actuator Compatibility with 6,000 lb Disc Brakes
Yes, you will have no problem using the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 7,500 lbs Brake Actuator item # DX56FR. The weight rating is for gross weight and tongue weight and the stronger actuator will work perfectly fine with your current disc breaks. Going up in strength is a way better option than drilling through your tongue or rerouting brake cables.

  • Troubleshooting A Boat Trailer Actuator That Blows Fuses And Won't Release
If you're referring to the reverse light circuit blowing each time then that would indicate an issue with the solenoid's wiring. With both the mechanical and wiring issues you've stated the best and safest option is really going to be replacing the actuator to avoid any further issues. You can try checking the solenoid wiring but it giving you hard time trying to utilize the manual override is concerning. Without the specifics of your trailer it's a bit hard to recommend a replacement...

  • Dexter Brake Actuator that Can Fit In Place of Titan Aero 7500
The Dexter DX7.5L # DX56FR would be a great option to replace the Titan Aero 7500 that you have now. This also was designed to fit a 3 inch by 5 inch tongue and will work great with a tandem disc setup like you have as well.

  • Weight Capacity and How Dexter DX7.5L Brake Actuator Installs on Trailer Frame
Yes, the Dexter Axle Brake Actuator Coupler part # DX56FR is good for towing a trailer up to 7,500 lbs so it would easily work on yours rated for up to 3,520 lbs. This will fit on a straight tongue that is measures 3 inches wide by 5 inches tall. This would fit on top of your current tongue as well and installs by bolting on. Installing it in place of a top mount style coupler would be no problem.

  • Can the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout be Used With Swing Away Tongue
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX56FR is designed to mount on a 3" x 5" straight tongue. In order to make this work for your trailer, you would need to use a flexible brake line since the actuator and line will be folding away. I have attached a video review as well as a link to all of our brake lines for your reference.

  • Replacement Surge Brake Actuator for Tiedown 80 LP on Boat Trailer
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX56FR is designed to fit inside the tongue of a trailer, yes, but aside from that it doesn't look like it's a direct replacement for the one that came on your Ranger Boat Trailer. As long as you have a 3" x 5" straight tongue and your boat trailer isn't rated for more than 7,500 lbs this should work just fine as a replacement for you.

  • How to Find Out What Replacement Brake Actuator For a Triton 21 Bass Trailer
You can either look for a model number on your Triton boat trailer, or you can just replace the entire actuator. Either way I am going to need a bit more info to be able to find an appropriate replacement. For instance if you needed a 2" coupler that fits straight tongue trailer with a 3" x 5" tongue, then something like the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX56FR could work. If you can let me know what you have currently that'd help me find either a direct replacement...
