Disc Brakes
More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.
Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use
This disc brake assembly resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat trailer. All KodaGuard calipers undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 600 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 600-hour salt spray rating indicates that this product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.
In addition, the rotors and caliper mounting brackets have a Dacromet plating, which offers a 300- to 400-hour salt spray rating. The pistons, the brake pad backings, and the caliper mounting bolts are stainless steel. These corrosion-resistant components make this Kodiak assembly a natural choice when installing disc brakes on your boat trailer.
Over-the-Hub Rotors for Easy Replacement
Kodiak's slip-on, cast iron rotor makes it easy to convert an idler axle to a disc brake axle. Simply place the rotor over your hub. It is most often wheel bolt piloted for a loose fit and then held in place by the wheel itself. With a separate rotor and hub, you can easily repair or replace one element of your brake system without having to junk the whole thing.
The rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Kodiak's rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage.
Calipers
Kodiak calipers are constructed of cast iron to prevent flexing. Less flex means more braking torque, resulting in smooth, even braking every time. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel piston is 30 percent larger than standard pistons, ensuring shorter stopping distance and increased torque. In addition, the unique low-drag design of Kodiak's calipers allows the piston to retract farther than in most standard models, giving you a cooler-running brake.
Mounting Brackets
Designed for axles with 4-bolt brake flange configurations, the included mounting brackets are made of heavy-duty ductile iron that is embossed to provide additional threading for guide bolts. The added thread strength ensures a tighter, more secure connection between the caliper and bracket. Another unique feature of Kodiak's brackets is the side-support angle, which guarantees that the load is carried by the bracket, rather than the bolts.

My EZ loader boat trailer has been dunked in salt water hundreds of times (always rinsed later). The through-bolts and tandem torsion axle-disc brake systems do not hold up well to destructive rust. This is the second brake component replacement since they were new in 2014. Everyone "in the know" told me etrailer.com was the only way to go. They were so right. Good price, selection, inventory. I paid for 3-day shipping, but the order wasn't filled until 3 business days later. And the box was too light, and the box box broke during shipping, causing another delay. It took 10 days to get this order. The brake pads were already installed on the caliper with the clips already being bent. I could use them on my current calipers.

After years of trouble with my trailer brakes, I overhauled my brake system using two of these kits and adding a set to the second axle. They are holding up well and have been used occasionally in salt water. I previously used kits that were hub and disk assemblies and I think separating them is a better alternative. I also installed greasable bolts on my springs and I'm really happy with those... Highly recommended!

This kit is about 90% complete. You only need to reuse your existing backing plate bolts or buy and install new. It takes about 20 to install on one axel. The instructions are pretty simple. I'm very satisfied with this kit.

This product is still working out well. I generally use my boat trailer just a few times a year mostly Transitioning from the marina to my house in the spring and fall. The brakes work extremely well. The quality of parts and fit was perfect for my needs and type of use.

I'm sure the actual parts are great. Unfortunately I was sent the wrong hubs by mistake ( I received hub/rotors not rotors) . The calipers that were sent were also not Kodacoated .
So..... no explanation of how the order got mixed up so badly from Etrailer although they were pretty good about getting the return set up through UPS.

They went on fine. Only time will tell if the special blue coating helps with the saltwater exposure. Paired these with an elec over hyd actuator. Stops the boat trailer smooth.
