When you want smoother and safer stops, this Dexter hub-and-drum assembly is ready to go. It’s built for 3,500-lb trailer axles with #84 spindles and works with both electric and hydraulic drum brakes. The 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide drum gives your brake shoes a solid surface to grip, keeping stopping power consistent under load. With a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern and 1/2" wheel bolts, it’s a direct fit for common trailer wheels. Every hub is rated for 1,750 lbs, giving your setup balanced performance on each side.
Everything you need to mount it comes in the box—inner bearing (L68149), outer bearing (L44649), matching races (L68111 and L44610), grease seal (58846), grease cap, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. The races are already pressed into the hub, so the hardest part is already done. Once your bearings are greased and installed, just slide it on, snug the castle nut, and you’re ready to roll.
Dexter’s iron construction gives this hub the strength to handle real towing conditions day in and day out. The precision-machined drum surface keeps brake shoes wearing evenly, and the tight bearing tolerances mean smooth rotation. Whether you’re upgrading, repairing, or keeping a spare on hand, it’s built to match factory specs every time.
The included grease seal measures 1.719" inner diameter and 2.565" outer diameter, and the grease cap flange diameter is 1.986". These standard sizes make future replacements simple. Once installed, you get a long-lasting setup that’s easy to service and keeps your trailer rolling quietly and safely.
1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

I Installed two sets on my 14 foot Trailer. In the mountains of NC, brakes dont seem to last on the truck. I use the truck and trailer for pick up and delivery of Ventracs, that weigh in at around 1500LBS. The trailer empty will actually stop the truck now. (I use the Redarc trailer brake controller).
Not having to constantly adjust them is a major plus also. I did wire both axles indepentanly of each other to the junction box. If I happen to have a wire get torn loose, I will only lose braking on one axle and not both.
They were a little expensive, but will save me from replacing the brakes on my truck twice a year.
Over all, I am glad I got the two sets.
Hub/drums look ok, but the bearings were rolling around in the box and the seals were smashed. The bearings were Chinese and I don't trust that they didn't get damaged by the heavy drums while they were rolling around in the box. The parts were damaged in the dexter box, not from the e-trailer packaging. I ended up ordering new bearings and seals to be able to put my boat trailer back together.
I have only used for a short time, but so far they working great and are stopping my trailer well. I love that they come with all the needed bearings and dust caps. Mine was not packaged real well, and dust caps came damaged. I am using bearing buddies, so I did not make a stink. Time is the true test, but so far I am happy with my purchase.
I drove my empty two axle car trailer a few times to break in the new brakes. During assembly I did not adjust the brakes tight enough, therefore the brakes would not lock up when empty. Adjusting the brakes manually is a royal pain because of the drop axle, so I let them self adjust. On my first 150 mile drive trailering a 66 Mustang, the brakes self adjusted perfectly! Great product!

Excellent!
I had to replace the brake drums and brake shoes and magnets on my fifth wheel. It was cheaper to buy the completely assembled backing plates along with the drums then to replace the individual parts. Etrailer had the best price of all. They were very helpful when ordering and the parts arrived in two days. The parts fit perfect and the job was easy thanks to Etrailer.

A number 1
I wasted a lot of time and effort with auto parts stores trying to find replacement studs for my 1991 7000 lb trailer. But once I figured out that Drexel Axel was the manufacturer and doesn't sell replacement studs, just a whole hub kit, I found etrailer.com and their generic replacement kit is significantly lower cost. It arrived in 2 days with std shipping and fits just fine. The installation instructions that came with the part made the installation easy.

Its working
I was replacing a damaged OEM hub on my trailer's Dexter 3500lb. axle. This hub appeared in every way to be a direct replacement. It was great to have the included set of new bearings so I didn't have to worry about the condition of the old bearings. Bearings and hub install was straightforward and adjusting the bearing play was straightforward.

The hub and drum assembly I purchased is still working well a year later. No problems to report.
Recieved the parts in a timely manner. They are large heavy items and do move around the shipping box, however no damage occured. Had to purchase the nuts & lock washers to attach the backing plate to the axle. Other than that everything was included.
I used a double10Ga. wire. Brakes went on like a dream......my wife greased the bearings so that is probably why. Immediately left Michigan for Florida with a farm tractor on the trailor, checked the hub temp at every stop and experanced no problems.
"Great Stuff" Sorry no pics.

Still doing the trick..
Tows like a dream. With the trailer attached is just like driving with no trailer at all. Brakes are responsive and smooth. Just on additional note: I replaced all 4 of the electric drum brakes with Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kits. All bought from etrailer, all fit perfectly. No problems! Very happy with the product and the results.

To anyone who is putting brakes on a trailer I got a set of electric brakes hubs bearing and seal and cap from e-trailer and everything
fit perfect. They even arrived 2 days earlier than I thought. I would recommend e-trailer over anyone else. They have the best quality
product for less and made in USA. For me if I need any trailer parts I wouldn't look any more. They have very friendly service and has someone there that not only works in office but understands and knows bearings and when you ask questions knows exactly what you are talking about. I am completely 100% satisfied with their product and service.

everything is O K.
Really helpful with my order. Very fast shipping. Just wish their brake drum was not backordered
No problems with your drum brakes after their first season on my homemade trailer.
Wow ! Great prices and fast shipping. Saved a ton.
I wish I had found you last year when I had to rebuild my othe Pace Shadow GT Trailer after some 150,000 towing miles. This open trailer has had a tougher life and maybe 50,000 miles.
We turned around while working on the trailer and there he was. The local turtle thinks he found a new girlfriend !!LOL Gues he likes your drums.
These Dexter drum kits we’re awesome. It came with everything except a new cotter key. Maybe they will start adding a cotter key to the kit in the future.
An error in the published specification resulted in my ordering the wrong parts. The customer service team worked diligently and quickly to get me the right parts and return the wrong. Gladly give etrailer and all of the etrailer team 5 stars. And 5 stars to Cody who dug deep to find the right parts.

Thanks for sharing, Verle! Cody will be happy to hear that everything worked out for ya!
I got these drums in to replace some old ones. the only thing I miss is the adjustment hole. But being an over cautious tower I inspect my trailer brakes often. Installed yesterday and they worked great. Ordered on a Sunday and received on Tuesday - but I live in the same shipping -zone I believe - got some great LED trailer lights as well. Image shows product installed.
drum included internal and external bearings with the inner races pressed in. The inner grease seal needed to be pressed or tapped into place. It would have been helpful to have the note that the bearing retaining washer and nut was not included.
One year in, everything has performed without issue. Towed our 3500+ lb boat around from lake to lake, zero issues with this hub and drum!
Initially ordered the wrong diameter hub assembly. Return was quick. Ordered the correct assembly. Greased the bearing, applied seal and installed Hub and drum assembly. Thanks to the FAQ on giving instructions how to order the correct bearings. Assembly is torqued and ready for the road.
Genuine US made Dexter parts. Everything fit perfectly.
Packed heavy item around fragile parts that moved around. Nothing was damaged but it was out of package.
Great product and price . Next time I'll buy complete kit , brake shoes, magnets, drums etc.
I bought everything separately .all in one is cheaper . Brakes on my airstream are better than new!
Picture is old brakes and magnets I replaced at same time with new drums and bearings.

Good so far but havent been out much yet.
Good price and fast shipping on a hard to find item. I have a 2003 Karavan boat trailer, and the OEM parts aren't available. This was an exact match.
Normally I order most everything from Amazon, but when it comes to ordering the exact parts, and getting exceptional customer service, I turn to etailer. Yes, their prices are higher than Amazon, but they also stock everything needed and ship and deliver it, fast. I also really like the fact I can speak to someone in the country, who knows what they're talking about. When you call, they spend as much time as needed to solve the issue, without rushing or just trying to sell something you don't need. I read about etrailer in an RV magazine, and happy I gave them a try.
I ordered this hub kit to keep an extra onboard if I ever need one on the road. It's cheap insurance and something I hope never to use, with my 3k mile bearing services intervals.
The only thing I was not happy about, is the bearings and seal came thrown in a package with the lug nuts and hub cap. This is not ideal with how the shipping box got tossed around, and they could have been damaged. I would like to see each bearing and the seal, individually packaged.
