We have everything you'll need to add brakes to your cargo trailer but since we don't know exactly what axles you have you'll have to check out your setup and take a few measurements to determine what exactly you'd need to install everything. We actually have a guide that walks you through this entire process as well that I have attached to this page.
You will need a brake controller to activate the trailer brakes like you mentioned. A controller allows you to modulate how much voltage gets to the trailer brakes so that the trailer brakes can be applied in the best way for stopping the trailer.
We have the part # TK63VR which is very easy to use and is proportional. This means that it senses how hard you are applying the brakes of your 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 and matches the trailer braking pressure. All you need to install this in your truck is the install harness # 3015-P and you'd be set.
