  • Availability of Dexter Axle Brake Assemblies K23-026-00 and K23-027-00
We do have the regular Dexter Axle brakes and their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents. The regular (manually adjusted) brakes that you are wanting are listed as part # 23-26 for the Left Hand side and part # 23-27 for the Right Hand side. Their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents are parts # 23-468 and # 23-469 respectively. The Dexter Axle hub and drum assemblies that we have for a 3,500 lb axle use the Inner Bearing # L68149 and Outer Bearing # L44649. If you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern then you want...

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Hub Assembly for 1988 Prowler Lynx 15f
In order to pick out the correct hub assembly for a trailer you are going to need know a few key pieces of information. The first thing you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs. This is so you get a hub that is compatible with your wheels. Next thing you will need to know is what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from a hub or use a dial or digital caliper to get exact measurements of the spindle....

  • Guides to Use for Adding Brakes to a Trailer
First thing we need to do is verify for sure what axles/spindles your trailer has so that we can pick out the correct hub/drums that will fit them and then go from there to pick out the rest of the brake parts needed. I attached a couple help article links that are guides for your exact situation of adding brakes to a trailer. These will guide you through the entire process of what's needed to install brakes on your trailer.

I would be happy to help you. The 023-216-00 number you found is for a 10" x 2-1/4" left hand drum brake assembly. To replace it you will need the Left Hand: Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - 10" - 3,500 lbs item # 23-26 and Right Hand: Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - 10" - 3,500 lbs item # 23-27. The complete kit is the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs item # 23-26-27.

  • How to Tell Left and Right Side of a New Dexter Axle without Taking Off the Hubs or Brakes
If you look at the backs of the brake assemblies there should be a hole where the magnet wires come out and a little opaque plastic strap. So if you are looking at the back of the assembly and those items are on the left then it is the left side (drivers side). If on the right then it is the right side (passengers side). Or if you are unsure look for the Dexter stamp on the back of the brake assembly. There should be a part number there and I could look that up and tell you if it is a...

In order to swap your surge brakes to electric brakes you're going to need to first swap out the actuator with the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes # HBA-10. The next thing you'll need is new brake assemblies, if your drums are in good shape you can leave those on there but you're going to need brake kits for all four of your wheels using # 23-26 for the left side and # 23-27 for the right side. Next, you're going to need a brake controller. I personally like...

  • Parts Needed to Add Brakes to Dexter 3,500 lb Trailer Axle
Thanks for all of the details on your axle as that makes picking out the correct components very easy on me! Since you have a Dexter 3,500 lb axle with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you'd need the hub/drum part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K which matches that perfectly and then the brake assembly set # 23-26 for the left hand side and # 23-27 for the right hand side. To wire up the assemblies you'll want to use 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 which we sell by the foot.

  • What Information is Need to Find Parts to Switch from Hydraulic to Electric Drum Brakes
We would need to know how big the current brakes are. 10x2-1/4 or 12x2 etc. Sometimes you can re-use the drums from hydraulic brakes for electric brakes, sometimes not. If you are going to go ahead and replace the drums, we would need to know inner and outer bearing numbers. These are stamped right on the bearings. We would also need the bolt pattern of the drums. I have added a link to a wheel page that shows you how to measure bolt pattern at the bottom. Wheel diameter is important as...

  • Replacing Trailer Brake Assemblies for Axle with Dexter 36-22 Assemblies
We do not have replacement shoes for the brake pads you sent in a picture of. But judging by it's overall appearance it's going to be way easier and better for you in the long run to replace those assemblies as they have seen better days. It's also typically about the same price to just replace the entire assembly and won't be quite as difficult either. For that you can use the brake assembly set part # AKEBRK-7-SA and you'll have an assembly for both sides of the axle.

When it comes to replacing your hubs, based off some previous answers it looks like the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb Axles - 6 on 5-1/2 Item # 8-201-5UC3 could be the right replacement for you, but you will want to confirm which bearings are in your existing hubs. • Brake Assembly Kit and Drum Recommendation
So we are sure of fit, let's start with confirming your hub and drums fit your spindles before we look at the brakes. If those don't line up, we can't be sure you need a 10" drum to work with the # 23-26 and # 23-27 brake assemblies. For a 2,500lb axle like yours, we only have idler hubs so we won't have the hubs for you to install brakes but you will need to be sure of sizes before you buy brakes overall. To determine correct replacement hub size, you have to first determine which bearings...

You will need to use two different spindles/hubs/brake assemblies for each set of wheels. Which would make sense since you plan on swapping to a different axle. Spindles aren't something that are easy to swap in and out so your best option would be two have two totally different axles. For the 5 on 5 setup you would want the spindle part # TRU74FR. For a hub and drum part # 84556UC3, and brake assemblies # 23-27 for right side and # 23-26 for left side. For the 8 on 6-1/2 setup you would...
