E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Replacement Leaf Spring, Hub, Lift Kit and Wheel Tire for 2001 Keystone Cougar 278EFS
The best option for a trailer leaf spring replacement would be the 4-leaf 4,000 lb axle leaf spring part # e27SR. For a tandem lift kit you'd want the Lippert # RR23QX. For hub drums to convert to a 6 lug wheel you'd want the part # 84656UC3-EZ which is correct for 3,500 lb axles so that you could install a tire and wheel in the size of 225/75R15 Load Range D like the # AM32664.

  • Option for 3,500 lb Axle-Less Suspension System & Hubs With 6 on 5-1/2" Bolt Pattern
While there is not a traditional thru-axle in that size, we do have an option for you with the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System which are simply bolted or welded so you do not have to worry about finding an axle that meets any specific measurements. They also offer you an improved ride compared to a traditional through-axle because the Timbrens work independently so if there is a bump on one side of the road it won't rattle your entire trailer. The Timbren system also gives...

  • Replacement Trailer Hub for AL-KO 8490 With 6 on 5-1/2 Bolt Pattern
Thank you for the photos, they were very helpful; we do have replacements for the AL-KO 8490 hubs with a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern you have, though to make sure you get the correct replacement you need to take apart your hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. For example, Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-K has inner bearing # L68149, outer bearing # L44649 and is rated for...

  • Availability of Dexter Axle Brake Assemblies K23-026-00 and K23-027-00
We do have the regular Dexter Axle brakes and their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents. The regular (manually adjusted) brakes that you are wanting are listed as part # 23-26 for the Left Hand side and part # 23-27 for the Right Hand side. Their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents are parts # 23-468 and # 23-469 respectively. The Dexter Axle hub and drum assemblies that we have for a 3,500 lb axle use the Inner Bearing # L68149 and Outer Bearing # L44649. If you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern then you want...

From your description the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-468-469 is exactly what you need. They fit with 10" hubs, are rated for a 3,500 lb axle, and they mount on a 4 bolt brake mounting flange with 2-7/8" spacing on center. I have attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended Bearings for a AL-KO T44 Axle
Hey Ken. The AL-KO T44 axle is obsolete and no parts have been made for it since 2015. I do not have a replacement hub for you. However, based on my research, the AL-KO T-44 axle spindle on your trailer uses the item # L68149 inner bearing and item # LM67048 outer bearing. I recommend verifying this on your trailer by simply pulling the hubs and checking for the numbers that should be stamped onto the bearings themselves. The only hub that matches these bearing sizes item # 8-407-5UC3-EZ...

  • New Brakes for 3500lb Henschen Torsion Axle
Henschen has been out of business for quite some time now but their 3,500 lb axles did use standard bearings/hubs for that capacity so you can use a hub like the part # 84656UC3-EZ which does have the 6 lug bolt pattern you are needing. Then for electric brake assemblies the part # 23-468-469 would be all that you'd need. This would be much easier than trying to convert to electric over hydraulic.

  • Recommended Replacement Pre-Greased Hubs for a Lippert 4,400 lb Axle
Dennis, many times Dexter hubs will fit on a Lippert axle, but Lippert does have a few axles out there with special spindle sizes. For your Lippert 4,400 lb axle, you can use the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-K. Your 4,400 lb axle does use the same 3,500 lb axle hubs so these'll work great. These hubs also come pre-greased, includes all of the bearings, races, seals, grease cap and lug nuts.

  • Will 17" Wheel Fit Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles
Hi Jerritt; the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles # 84656UC3-EZ is only compatible with 13" to 16" wheels. Assuming you have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern the 17" wheels will technically fit. However, there is a concern over the contact between the mounting surface of the hub and the wheel. There may not be enough to support the larger wheel which could result in damage under the right conditions, including the wheel breaking off, so it isn't recommended. This...
