E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

etrailer was easy to work with and gather information for my horse trailer!! The information and selection was the best source I could find! The product was shipped and tracked right on schedule and actually arrived soon than I had expected.
These specific parts fit perfectly to a 2000 horse trailer that I had little information on to start with. The install was very straight forward, if I purchased the "manual" adjust.

by:

Delivery was 2 days ahead of what I expected. All the parts were exactly as described. Fit my spindle like a glove and we had the trailer on the road in less than 45 minutes. The website is great for giving you useful information that you are ordering the exact part you need. Everything from bolt centers to bearing numbers. In my experience, there is not a better vendor for these components.

The trailer is on the road often and this hub assembly has been trouble free, as expected.

by:

I used these to replace odd-ball 5 on 5.5 hubs. I hate that bolt pattern. So hard to find good rims because hardly anyone uses them. In fact, I did this swap shortly after buying the trailer (read, tires and wheels were still in new condition). The dealer I bought them from was reluctant to give me much money for them. He told me that even he would have a hard time selling them because they were such an odd-ball bolt pattern. As he said this, I'm looking around at his lot of trailers, ALL with hubs with this same bolt patter. Ugh!

I wanted to upgrade the rims on my trailer, and upgrade the tires. So, went with this pattern (on two trailers). Quality product. Would def. buy again.

This kit went on the axles without issue. I have been running it a year and temps are low and turns fine. The problem is I used the ez-lube covers that came with the kit. One year in the Arizona sun and all four rubber inserts dried up and crumbled out of the hub cover. Use the all steel caps that come with the kit and not the ez-lube ones included in the kit. I just ordered new all metal covers and will have to remove the bearings and reseal.

by:

Greatest service. I ordered the wrong hub kits for my tandem trailer. Realized the mistake the following day talked with Bridget and she emailed me the return paperwork. Then I ordered the correct parts, got them when promised. We were able to start our trip in time. The drum kits were complete except for the outer "D" washer. Just used the original ones. No problem. My hero.

by:

My trailer drum kit arrived on 8/14/17 opened it up and started going thru my part and drums look good but Dexter tape the bearings too the the nose of the drum and both bearing sets and parts where crushed, called etrailer and after talking to etrailer on 8/14/17 they are sending me replacement part. So I'm happy they have good customer service they need to talk to dexter about how they package their product. How they pack their product is a direct reflection on etrailers.

by:

Very good hub upgrade. Could have probably been even better if I´d opted to install fresh electric brakes too. Need to figure out the part number for the appropriate ones and do them too. Hubs themselves seem perfect.

by:

The hub, drum, and bearings are worked fine so far. The only minor complaint was there was no thrust washer included. This is the washer that sits under the crown nut. Luckily, I was able to use the old one.

by:

Glad etrailer had this in stock! With all the campers out there, you would think this would be more available. Had a major incident on the highway and had to piece the axle back together with a 10" 5 lug and new wheel and tire to get back on the road. etrailer had this at my home waiting for me when I got back off of vacation!

by:

Good quality product and fast delivery. Used on double axle trailer to haul John Deere tractor. Easy install but packaging could have been better because package came very beat up.

by:

easy install, products just as described. The installation videos are why we are able to buy these products ourselves and save money, thank you.

by:

Disappointed washers were not included also that bearings are mfg in china

The d-washer does not come with the hub. The hub and drum is made and assembled in the USA but the bearings are manufactured in China.

by:

All parts good but have had to replace three of the four backing plates that were loaded they just fell apart

by:

Only good things to say about etrailer and all of the products I've bought over the years. All top quality and easy well laid out website.

by:

Product fit as designed. I used the old Castle Nut and had to purchase a new cotter pin. I would suggest this kit include a new Castle Nut and Cotter Pin; otherwise the product was excellent and installation was easy.

by:

This is a fantastic replacement for older hubs or for those who don’t want to replace bearing races in existing hubs. Very good price for the quality. I replaced all four of mine, well worth the money!

by:

Just what I needed for a livestock trailer. Fit perfectly and was easy to install.

by:

very satisfied. installation was as smooth as one could expect

by:

Great drum kit, Have used many of them with great success.

by:

everything about this product was right on !! fit, finish and so far after 1 year of use durability is flawless

by:

fit perfect, installed easily, been running fine ever since.

by:

Excellent old school service! The kind you don't see much anymore, especially online. I used Chat for some detailed questions. Quick response and the item arrived promptly. I find the details available online, and search functions to be great, made it easy to find my part.

by:

fit good but new Nut will not stay in so i had to put old nut back in with pin to hold it

by:

Product is excellent. Better than expected and shipping was admirable. Packaging was also very good. Thank you

by:

  • Availability of Dexter Axle Brake Assemblies K23-026-00 and K23-027-00
We do have the regular Dexter Axle brakes and their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents. The regular (manually adjusted) brakes that you are wanting are listed as part # 23-26 for the Left Hand side and part # 23-27 for the Right Hand side. Their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents are parts # 23-468 and # 23-469 respectively. The Dexter Axle hub and drum assemblies that we have for a 3,500 lb axle use the Inner Bearing # L68149 and Outer Bearing # L44649. If you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern then you want...

The best option for a trailer leaf spring replacement would be the 4-leaf 4,000 lb axle leaf spring part # e27SR. For a tandem lift kit you'd want the Lippert # RR23QX. For hub drums to convert to a 6 lug wheel you'd want the part # 84656UC3-EZ which is correct for 3,500 lb axles so that you could install a tire and wheel in the size of 225/75R15 Load Range D like the # AM32664.

Henschen has been out of business for quite some time now but their 3,500 lb axles did use standard bearings/hubs for that capacity so you can use a hub like the part # 84656UC3-EZ which does have the 6 lug bolt pattern you are needing. Then for electric brake assemblies the part # 23-468-469 would be all that you'd need. This would be much easier than trying to convert to electric over hydraulic.

Thank you for the photos, they were very helpful; we do have replacements for the AL-KO 8490 hubs with a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern you have, though to make sure you get the correct replacement you need to take apart your hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. They also offer you an improved ride compared to a traditional through-axle because the Timbrens work independently so if there is a bump on one side of the road it won't rattle your entire trailer. Dennis, many times Dexter hubs will fit on a Lippert axle, but Lippert does have a few axles out there with special spindle sizes. For your Lippert 4,400 lb axle, you can use the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-K. Your 4,400 lb axle does use the same 3,500 lb axle hubs so these'll work great. Hey Ken. The AL-KO T44 axle is obsolete and no parts have been made for it since 2015. I do not have a replacement hub for you. Hi Jerritt; the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles # 84656UC3-EZ is only compatible with 13" to 16" wheels. Assuming you have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern the 17" wheels will technically fit. However, there is a concern over the contact between the mounting surface of the hub and the wheel. There may not be enough to support the larger wheel which could result in damage under the right conditions, including the wheel breaking off, so it isn't recommended. This...
