Video Transcript for Redline Tires and Wheels RG03-040 Review

Today we're going to take a look at these replacement drive-in trailer hub wheel studs. It's a 1/2 inch diameter, 1 13/16ths in length and a quantity of four of them. Now these 1/2 inch studs, they're designed to replace damaged wheel studs on your trailer hub. The rate spline portion right here of the stud is going to be driven or pressed into your trailer hub and this stud is what will go through the bolt along your trailer wheel and when it's used with a wheel lug nut it will hold your tire wheel to your axle. They are stamped as Grade A bolts. Again, the thread sized diameter is 1/2 an inch. It's 20 threads per inch and they do use standard 1/2 inch by 20 lug nuts.

Now I did happen to pull one of those 1/2 inch by 20 lug nuts from our warehouse and just to show you after this is installed in your hub, put your wheel up on the stud and then just go ahead and put your lug nut on there and then tighten it down and torque it to the correct specs for your application. Now I do want to give you the overall length. Now the overall length on the studs are always measured from the bottom of the head to the very end. If we put a ruler on this, it's going to be right at 1 13/16ths overall length. The threaded portion length is going to be right at 1 1/4 inches and then the spline diameter, that's the diameter of the spline here, that's the end that gets pressed into the trailer hub, the diameter of that is .61 inches. That should do it for the review of these replacement drive-in trailer hub wheel studs, 1/2 inch diameter by 1 13/16ths length and a quantity of four of them.

Saved my trailer. Someone (me) forgot to tighten the lugnuts after checking the bearings. Destroyed the studs. Could not find them locally anywhere. Found etrailer online, and was able to match the studs just from the pictures and descriptions on the web page. 1-13/16ths was a great clue.. only one. So this old guy thanks you for saving his trusty old trailer. 543331

  • I wasn't able to find your specific part number hub but if you have a 5,200 lb hub with a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern you are going to need a 1/2 inch drive in stud. If your existing drive in studs are 1-13/16 inches long (measurement B in picture) you will need the Replacement Trailer Hub Wheel Studs, item # RG03-040. • How do Wheel Studs Typically Get Removed From Trailer Hub
  • Most wheel studs are pressed into hubs so what you can do is use a large punch or chisel and a hammer to hammer the broken studs out of the hub and then reverse the process to install new ones.

  • Lug Nuts Torque Setting on Part # 84546UC3-EZ

  • Recommended Hub Stud Bolts for a Hub Using L64819 and L44649 Bearings
  • If your hub uses the # L68149 and # L44649 bearings included in the # BK2-100 kit, it is most likely very similar to the # 84546UC3 hub drum assembly we offer, which has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and works with 3500 pound axles. The # 84546UC3 hub drum would accept 1/2 inch drive-in stud kit # RG03-040, which is 1-13/16 inches long. If you find that your current studs do not match the # RG03-040 kit, I recommend looking at the rest of the drive-in studs we offer, as they come...

  • Can a Wheel That Uses 1/2 Inch Wheel Studs Be Used on a Trailer that Uses 7/16 Inch Studs
  • In this situation I would actually recommend just replacing the wheel studs themselves. The studs on your current hubs should be able to be knocked out, working at the front side of the hub. That way, you would be able to compare your current studs to ones offered with the 1/2 inch diameter and replace them. You can get a good idea of how the measurements are taken by looking at the diagram on the product page for 1/2 inch wheel stud # RG03-040. I am including a link to all the...

  • How to Remove a Stripped Wheel Stud
  • If the studs on your hub are drive-in studs, the most common method for removing the studs is by driving them out with a hammer. If you have a hub with an integrated drum or rotor, I recommend putting the hub flat on the ground before driving out the stud. Most trailer hubs use drive-in studs. If you have screw-in studs, I recommend using a pair of vice grips on the exposed part of the stud and try to unscrew the studs from the hub. If you find the studs to be too difficult to drive...

  • How to Determine Size of Studs on 2016 Ice Castle Trailer
  • I won't be able to tell you off-hand what size studs you have on your 2016 Ice Castle trailer but I can help you figure out what you have. The reason I can't just tell you, even knowing it's an 8 lug hub, is because 1/2", 5/8", and 9/16" studs are commonly used. What you can do is use a digital caliper like part # PTW80157 and measure the thread diameter of your studs. For example, the Replacement 1/2" x 1-13/16" Trailer Hub Wheel Stud # RG03-040 has a thread diameter of 1/2". I have...
