Features to know about

Replace Old or Weak Brakes: Direct-Fit 12" Assemblies for 5.2K–7K Axles

If your trailer’s original brakes are worn or dragging, these etrailer 12" x 2" electric brake assemblies are a simple, direct replacement. They fit standard 5-bolt flanges on 5,200 lb, 6,000 lb, and 7,000 lb axles, and work with 14-1/2", 15", 16", and 16-1/2" wheels. Each set includes left-hand and right-hand assemblies that bolt right on and wire easily. Reviewers mention quick installs and perfect fitment that gets them back on the road fast.

Smooth, Consistent Braking Every Time: Self-Adjusting Mechanism Maintains Pad Contact

Manually adjusting trailer brakes can be a hassle, but these self-adjusting assemblies do it for you. As the pads wear, an internal tension cable keeps the shoes properly aligned for consistent braking power. This design maintains optimal contact with the drum, prevents uneven wear, and eliminates the need for routine manual adjustments—so you always get solid, predictable braking without crawling under the trailer.

Built for Long Service Life: Automotive-Grade Bonded Pads and Rust-Resistant Backing Plates

The pads use automotive-grade friction material that’s fully bonded to the shoes for smoother operation and more uniform wear than riveted pads. Tapered pad edges reduce stuttering and lockup during stops. The e-coated backing plates resist rust and corrosion from dirt, grime, and road debris, while included adjuster plugs help keep internal parts clean. This combination delivers strong braking torque and reliable performance over time.

Tested to Industry Standards: Certified Safe for Everyday Towing

Each assembly meets QAI, CSA, and SAE-N certification standards for braking performance under real-world conditions. That means these brakes have been tested for safety and reliability on the road. Whether you’re towing through city traffic or long downhill grades, you can count on consistent braking power that meets recognized quality benchmarks.

The hub came damage. We had to go to the local auto parts store to get new studs and bearings. They were not with the piece when it arrived.

These brake assemblies installed easily and were a direct replacement for the manufacturer installed manual adjust brakes.

@Brian it was probably a nice swap to the self adjusting from your manual ones, one less thing to worry about Brian. Glad to hear our brakes are holding up as they should. Any fun trips this year you would like to share? I am always looking for new places to camp and explore, no one better to ask than our neighbors (customers).

Perfect fit for my Forest River Sandpiper 365 SRQ 5th wheel. Easy do it yourself task.6000 lb anxles. Order processing, shipping, part availability, pricing and customer service are all top notch, but the packaging department needs much improvement. Both my leaf springs and brake assemblies were only wrapped in thin paper and shipped in light weight boxes, both arrived damaged with parts missing.
by:
These are well made, everything is high quality. The fit was perfect and installation was easy. I watch the video to see if there was anything unexpected that needed to be done. The one thing mentioned is that there should hear/feel a slight drag after installation when spinning the drum by hand and that is exactly how all four were. Couldn’t have been finer. I’ve taken it for a 11 hour trip to the Black Hills and they work as they should.

We had a catastrophic brake failure on one wheel on a recent trip. These were an exact fit on our Dexter axles. Ordering was easy and shipping was quick. Installation was very straightforward. I think these are better quality than the originals.

Still working perfectly one year later. We just put a thousand miles on the camper last week.

The product installation was smooth, and the new brakes matched the old brakes exactly. 3 stars because of shipping. All 4 brakes were packaged in 1 box with paper padding. During transit, 2 of the brakes had pieces knocked off, which were floating free in the bottom of the box. I was able to reassemble the 2 brakes and had to use a small retaining clip from one of the old brakes.
by:
Bolted right up no issues, trailer has great brakes again!
by:
Best price, only used 16 gauge wire for magnet connections though.
by:
Bought two sets. One set will have to be returned. It came apart in shipping. Weird way of packaging these things.
by:
The breaks work very well. They are more than capable of stopping my fully loaded horse trailer. Great job!

Hello Chrissy,
Arrived here in Mcneal on Monday installed on Tuesday had problem with lower spring was not property bent into a hook, Assembly partially fell apart during burnishing phase lost breaks, luckily only five miles from cabin,
Fixed problem, getting ready right now to finish burnishing little time loss but looking forward to hopefully a nice set of breaks. First time using y'all's service, Hopefully a great partner for my parts. Thanks for being there for us. Steve

I sent a question to etrailer.com Re: brake assemblies for my 1964 Airstream RV. I got a prompt response explaining how to measure the old brakes on the trailer to correctly size the brakes I needed. Finding the size allowed me to research the hub & bearing assemblies I also needed. I ordered them all with confidence they'd fit. Installed the self adjusting Electric Brake Assemblies along with the Hub kit with bearings, All parts fit together perfectly. Thanks George.

I’m very satisfied with the Brake and Hub Assy’s. I purchased from you guys. I recently had a question regarding Lug Nut Torque on the Hubs. I couldn’t locate any info on the instructions that came in the Boxes nor could I find this Info on the website. I looked in the FAQ’s area & also on the parts info page for the parts I bought. I like finding the Info myself, Usually after hours. I ended up having to call you guys. I talked to Sammie at Customer Service, She didn’t have the exact but did know where to get it. She sent me the Torque Chart with the Torque settings for the Hub and Wheel Type I have. I think that this Info Should be included in the box with the new Hubs and Lug Nuts, Plus easily found on the website. Your Videos and Tips are a Great Extra Plus for us DIY’s like me. I Appreciate Your effforts!! Thanks Again,

Fantastic Service! Order Shipped right away. UPS lost part of my order, so I emailed etrailer On Friday night and Saturday they tracked down the missing box and got me an update on the missing part. I then had a question on the install, and they got back to me the same day. These pre-assembled brakes were very easy to install. I will definently be using then next time.
by:
Brakes were a perfect fit and replaced all 6 on my Heartland Cyclone triple axle camper.
by:
Shipping practice is atrocious. Set of 4 was just kind of thrown in a box with some seals I ordered as well. They mostly survived but will require a bit of time to straighten out. Whole point of buying these pre-assembled is to not have to mess around with disassembly and reassembly. Some minor gouging on the edge of the shoes and everything is askew. See pictures.

Product is very excellent quality but shipping box tore open in transit due to parts weighing 100 lbs. Suggest two boxes for these products.
by:
Feel great, 10.0 full stop, dont move with electric brakes fully pressed.
by:
These brake assemblies were an exact duplicate of the originals I was replacing. If you zoom on the pictures I took the two right side ratchet assemblies are knocked loose due to the shipping being dropped, no fault of the etrailer. The sturdy shipping box came in very handy for kneeling on while working on the brakes as you can see I’m working in the area with gravel all around the wheels. This is my second purchase from etrailer and both purchases have arrived quickly and worthy of their price.

I have made several orders with Etrailer in the past and it has always been a great experience with prices, communication, shipping and quality of parts.
by:
The product was exactly what was needed for my application and I did appreciate the assistance by calling a live person for my order. The only draw back with calling in was not being solicited for a discount code to be applied like online ordering does.
I guess that's the cost of calling direct and not being prepared on checkout.
by:
I replaced the hydraulic surge brakes on my trailer with the electric brakes and hardware. I couldn't be happier. They stop on a dime and they take the burden off of my tow vehicle. Excellent purchase. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

These are exact replacements for the Dexter self adjusting brakes. I ordered 4. Unfortunately one of the assemblies was missing the star nut adjusting arm. I thought that maybe it fell out during shipping but it was nowhere to be found in the packaging. Fortunately I was able to cannibalize one of the old brakes and get it to work.

  • Comparing Dexter and etrailer.com 7,000 Pound Electric Brake Assemblies
The etrailer.com Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA and the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Kit # 23-464-465 referenced in your question are both self-adjusting assemblies that will work to replace the existing Dexter brakes on your 7,000 pound axle. Between the two options I actually do recommend going with the etrailer.com # AKEBRK-7-SA and not only because of the much friendlier cost. One thing that sets the etrailer.com brand brakes apart from other brand assemblies, including...

This will give you the 5-bolt flange for attaching the 12” x 2” brakes like part # AKEBRK-7-SA.
