The P-29 number you're seeing on your Dexter Axle is actually the number for the plant that made the axle. There should be a stamp or sticker on your trailer frame near the coupler that shows what the axle capacity is, and if you can't find that then you should be able to see the weight capacity on the identification sticker in the middle of the axle itself.

I've attached a photo example of what to look for as well as a helpful article on finding your trailer axle weight capacity for you to check out.

Well I reached out to Dexter axle regarding P 29, which is plant 29 and also SLR, which seems that all axles have Its determined to be a 7000 pound axle however can’t find what the payload capacity is the front part of coupler. It has Shelby 5101 or maybe it’s S101 It says not to exceed 5000 pounds but still unable to find out what the pay capacity is because putting on new deck and side walls I’d like to know what capacity is onthe trailer in purchased in 2001 it’s been a great trailer. I don’t have a truck anymore and I’d rather have it go to a good home.

@RandallK The GVWR (max loaded weight of the trailer) should be stamped somewhere near or on the tongue of your trailer. You'll want to take your trailer to a weigh station and see what it weighs currently, then subtract that from the GVWR to see what the max payload will be. Be sure to also subtract the weight of any other parts or equipment you'll have on your trailer. For example, the weight of your new deck or any additional tie-downs or anything like that.

@JonG I would like to paste the image so I can show you what it is that I’m dealing with, but it’s not allowing me to send an image in this box so is there an alternate way that I can send these images so that way you can help understand my dilemma

@RandallK To Jon I saw where I can attach images so that way I can send it to you. I’m in no hurry but when I submitted, it was the information I got from Dexter axle. I’m just needing to know the pillow capacity and the weather out here is kind of wet so it’s gonna take a little bit for me to go out and measure the axle in length and width. I figured I’d just give you an update.
