Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub with Integrated Drum - AKHD-865-7-1-EZ-K Review

Today we're going to take a look at the 12" trailer hub and drum assembly or 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb easy lube axles. This has the 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. This hub and drum assembly will provide the surface area for your brake shoes to grip when the drum brake's activated. It is compatible with both electric and hydraulic drum brakes. This trailer hub assembly will fit the easy lube trailer axles and the easy lube axles are the ones that have the grease zerk fitting on the end of the spindle that allow you to grease the bearings without having to remove the complete hub. This part does come with the easy lube compatible grease cap which will make lubricating the bearings very fast and easy.

With this installed, to grease your bearings all you have to do is pop the rubber plug off, gain access to that zerk fitting on the end of your spindle, put your grease gun in there and you can pump grease into your bearings without having to take this whole hub and drum off your axle. This hub and drum assembly will include everything shown here on the table, also includes the bearing races which are pre-installed in the hub, you can see right here the outer bearing race and then if I spin this around, on the very back you can see the inner bearing race. Comes with the inner bearing, the outer bearing, the grease seal, and the easy lube grease cap with that rubber plug, and it comes with 8 of the 9/16 lug nuts. This is a sturdy iron construction, has a nice zinc enriched paint on the drum to help add durability and the zinc finish on the bolts will also help resist corrosion. This is certified by USSAE standards and CSA which are the Canadian standards. Again, the application for this hub and drum is 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb easy lube trailer axles with the number 42 spindles. It is compatible with axles from most manufacturers including Dexter, Lippert, and AL-KO.

This is designed to work with a 12" brake assembly. The inside of this brake drum is 12" inside diameter. Again, the bolt pattern on this is a 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. The weight capacity is 3,500-lbs per hub, so when 1 of these is used with 1 on the other side it will get up to your 7,000-lb maximum. These parts, I'm going to show you where they go on the hub and drum.

The inner bearing we'll start with, it's part number 25580, has an inside diameter of 1.75". That will go on the inner bearing race right here, drops right in just like that. Your grease seal to hold it into place has an overall diameter of 3.376 and will go right there, and then just tapped into place to hold everything. The outer bearing which is the smaller of the 2 bearings, it's part number 14125A, has an inner diameter of 1.25" and will drop right into the outer bearing race and then your zinc plated easy lube grease cap with that rubber plug, has a flange diameter of 2.72" and it would tap in just like that. Then, as we had mentioned, to access that zerk fitting on the axle you just pop off that plug and you could access the zerk fitting. For this video I'm just showing you where these parts go in the hub and drum, but when you do install these for the first time you do want to make sure both bearings are greased properly, filled with grease, and then you install it all on the axle, and from then on you can just maintain it through the easy lube by having that cap on there and just accessing it through there.

This also includes 8 9/16 by 18 size lug nuts. The lug nuts are used to hold your wheel and tire assembly to the hub and drum, so once you put your wheel up on these studs just go ahead and put your lugs on, and then torque your lugs down to the correct specs for your application. That should do it for the review of the 12" trailer hub and drum assembly for 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb easy lube axles, and this is an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern.

I needed new hub and wheel parts for a 7k lb axle on a large triaxle toyhauler. Michael H was very helpful answering questions and George J had the right parts to me quickly and efficiently. etrailer.com and their staff are excellent to work with. 545032

Great except that you sent me lug nuts that are too small for the studs. 520038

The hub assembly was an EXACT replacement for the OEM hub on my 5th wheel trailer. It was easily installed to replace the hub that failed. I was surprised at how quickly etrailer shipped the part and how fast it arrived at my home. 489171

Never had a problem with the replacement hub assembly. I worked perfectly up until we traded for a new 5th wheel in Sept. 2018.

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drum?

  • Recommended EZ Lube Hubs For 7000 lb Capacity Axle 8 Bolts With 5/8 Inch Wheel Studs
  • For a 5/8 inch stud option without the EZ Lube, I recommend the Dexter Axle Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 7,000-lb Axles - 8 on 6-1/2 # 8-219-18UC3. This will have the grease cap and not the EZ Lube. However, you can add the EZ lube grease caps with plug that will fit, they are # RG04-120. If you want a complete kit, we don't have the 5/8 inch stud size, but for the 1/2 inch stud option, I recommend the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 7,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 12" Diameter - 8 on...

  • Recommended Hub and Drum Assemblies and Brakes for 7,000 Pound Triple Axle Trailer
  • To determine exactly which hubs you need you'll need to find your bearing numbers. Most likely you have # 25580 and # 14125A but verify to be sure. If these are correct you'll next want to find the diameter of your wheel studs and if you have E-Z Lube axles. If the studs are 9/16 inch use # AKHD-865-7-1-K for E-Z Lube axles and # AKHD-865-7-1-EZ-K for standard axles. For 1/2 inch studs instead use # AKHD-865-7-2-EZ-K for E-Z Lube or # AKHD-865-7-2-K for standard axles. Then...

Part # RG04-080 fits a hub bore of 2.44-inches. Part # RG04-120 fits a hub bore of 2.72-inches. This is the size that fits the...

  • Are Timbren Axle-less Systems Rated per Side or as a Total System
  • The weight capacity rating for a Timbren axle-less system is a total for the entire system. They're rated in comparison to standard axles that they replace. So the 3,500 pound system you asked from, part # A35RS545E, is rated for a total of 3,500 pounds and uses the same hubs, bearings, and brakes as a standard 3,500 pound axle. If you're looking for a system rated for 7,000 pounds then you need part # TASR7KS01 instead. It doesn't include hubs or brakes but you can use part # AKHD-865-7-1-EZ-K...

  • Trailer Hub and Drum with 8 on 6-1/2 Bolt Pattern and 9/16 Studs for 7,000 Pound Axles
  • The size socket used isn't necessarily going to be the same as the nut or stud thread size. It is usually larger since the outer width of a hex head is larger than the threaded diameter. Hub and drum assembly # 8-219-13UC3 for 5,200 to 7,000 pound axles does indeed have a stud diameter of 9/16 and would take 9/16 inch lug nuts. We also have the similar etrailer model, # AKHD-865-7-1-EZ-K, that also has 9/16 inch studs. Both it and the above assembly are for EZ Lube axles. If your axles...

  • How to Determine if a 7K Dexter Trailer Axle Hub has 1/2 Inch or 9/16 Inch Studs
  • The only difference between the Dexter 7K hubs and hub and drum assemblies that have either 1/2 inch studs or 9/16 inch studs are the studs themselves. Otherwise they are exactly the same. You can use calipers such as # PTW80157 to measure the diameter of the studs you have. Or you can check the hubs you have for any numbers stamped into them. If you see a 219-04 or 219-09 then it has 1/2 inch studs. If you see a 219-13 or 219-18 they are 1/2 inch. It is also possible that this information...
