    • Fine-tooth brake adjustment gear allows for a more precise setting
  • E-coated backing plate resists wear and corrosion
  • Adjuster plugs (included) cover access holes to keep dirt and grime out of the assembly and off of the shoes

Self-Adjusting Brake Doesn't Require Routine Adjustment

Standard electric brake assemblies require manual adjustment of the brake shoes over time to provide longer-lasting and more efficient braking performance. With self-adjusting brakes, the brake shoes are always properly aligned, so there's no need to manually adjust the brakes after the initial adjustment. As a result, you get optimum performance without having to take the time to continually perform this type of maintenance.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This brake assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This brake assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This brake has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on this brake assembly is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

Ordered 2 of these to replace the broken/grease soaked brakes on the right side of my 2018 Alpine 5th wheel RV. Had to make some minor adjustments to these so all of the parts on them lined up correctly, after that they were a perfect fit. I don't believe you could ask for an easier brake repair. 695996

  • Parts Needed to Convert Boat Trailer with 6 Lug Hubs to Electric Brakes
Based on the drum size and bolt pattern of the drums that you have now the correct brake assemblies you want to convert your trailer to electric brakes would be the part # AKEBRK-7R-SA and # AKEBRK-7L-SA and then for new hubs # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K and then you'd be set. These hubs are pre-greased too which means a less messy install. To wire up the brakes you'll want to use 10 gauge wire which we sell by the foot as part number # 10-1-1.

If the 2 wires at the back of your brake assemblies are not connected to anything, like in the attached picture of part # AKEBRK-7R-SA, then that is definitely your problem. You will need to splice in the wire that carries the brake controller signal from your vehicle to one of the wires on each assembly. The other wires for each assembly, as you mentioned, will need to be grounded to a clean, bare-metal surface on your trailer. Luckily for brake assemblies it doesn't matter which one...

  • Difference Between etrailer and Dexter Electric Brake Assemblies
Etrailer Electric Brake Assemblies like the 12", Self Adjusting # AKEBRK-7R-SA referenced in your question are different than Dexter Brake Assemblies such as # 23-459. The biggest difference is the brake pad material used. Etrailer brake pads use thicker material, and while most pads are "snapped" during the production process, the pads on etrailer's assemblies are cut. This ultimately results in a cleaner, crack free edge that will help extend the life of the brake pads. The matching...

  • Parts Needed to Install Electric Drum Brakes on Boat Trailer
It is possible to convert a boat trailer from either no brakes or disc brakes over to electric drum brake operation. Electric drum brakes used to not be found on boat trailer very often, due to water and electricity not being god pals, but in recent years we've seen more and more trailer makers using electric drum brakes as OEM equipment. Advantages of electric drum trailer brakes are lower cost, freedom from the need to use a trailer-mounted actuator and the fact that running brake...

  • Which Axle is Best if Only One Axle of Tandem Trailer Has Brakes
Which axle the brakes are on can make a pretty big difference. If they are on the front axle of a leaf spring suspension axle then that tends to cause a trailer to pitch forward. If they are leaf spring axles then they should go on the rear. I've linked an article on adding electric brakes to a trailer that you may find helpful...
