Availability Of Brakes And Hubs For AL-KO 4,400 lb Axle

Updated 10/23/2025 | Published 04/05/2025

Question:

I have a 2012 Keystone Laredo that has AL-KO 4400lb axles. I am trying to replace the hub/drum and brake assemblies..but am having a difficult time finding Al-KO compatible parts. My axle part number is T44 85/68.TM 655ULE W/PP4. 6 on 5.5 bolt patterns with 10 brakes. I would welcome your recommendations. Thanks,

Hello Don, thanks for reaching out. The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # K23-478-479 may work for you, but I would need you to measure your brake flange to verify. The # K23-478-479 brakes use a 4-bolt pattern, and I have included a diagram below with the dimensions. Some of the AL-KO axles use a different bolt pattern for the brake flange.

If this does not match your brake flange I am afraid you will be out of luck for the brakes. AL-KO was bought out by Dexter, and they stopped making most of the AL-KO compatible parts. This will apply to the hubs too, the AL-KO stuff is basically obsolete.

The best solution we can offer would be to replace the axle entirely with something like a 5,200 lb axle. The closest option we offer would be the # e45GR axle which has a 86-1/2" HF and 71-1/2" SC. You would just need to have new spring seats welded to the axle at 68.5". Then you could use the # AKEBRK-7-SA brakes and # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K hubs.

I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out with any other questions an I am happy to get back to you.

Hey Don, what did you find when you measured your brake flange on the Keystone Laredo? Once you had those dimensions, were you able to confirm if the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust brakes fit or if you went with the new axle setup instead? Your update could make it easier for others working with older AL-KO axles.

@JesseM Thanks for the question. Unfortunately, after measuring, I found that that they would not fit. As the axles, and parts have been discontinued, I was forced to install all new springs and axles. As a side note, I went with 5200lb axles...that come with 12' brakes (not the original 10"). I can tell you that this part was a VERY noticeable upgrade.
