Cargo Tie Downs Questions

  • To determine the required capacity of the tie down straps used to secure a load, the working load limit of the straps should be considered. The Retractable Ratchet Straps you mention, # 34414 have a 1,333 lb working load limit. In order to properly secure your tractor, you would need to use 4 of the straps to secure the 5000 lb load, and even then, you only have a few hundred pounds of wiggle room. I would rather see you use straps with a higher capacity strap like the Erickson...

  • With the BoxLink system on your 2015 Ford F-150, you have multiple options when it comes to tie down straps. You can attach directly to the BoxLink cleats or hook directly to the interface plate with a bungee cord, S-hook, or E-track fitting. I have attached a link to multiple options for tie downs. A couple popular options are the Erickson E-Track Strap with Ratchet, # EM59136, and Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps, # EM34415.

  • I went out to the warehouse and measured the under floor load ring that is included in the CargoBuckle G3 Cargo Tie-Down, part # IMF18804, to give you an idea of the clearance needed to mount this tie-down to your trailer. This under floor load ring is the part that is used as a template to determine the clearance needed on your trailer. I am including a picture of the under floor load ring as it looks assembled with the tie-down. The overall length of the load ring is 10-3/8...

  • The Erickson # EM34416 Ratchet Straps you mentioned would be ideal. Each strap has a 3300 lb break strength or a 1100 lb safe working load limit. When both straps are used at the same time, there's plenty of capacity for your 1400 lb mower. I've used a shorter version of these straps in the past to secure some PWC's to the trailer, and they worked perfectly. You'll want to make sure that a 10 foot length will be long enough. Load the mower on the trailer, and have a helper...

  • The size listed on the product page for the Bungee Cargo Net, # 59200 is 36 inches x 48 inches unstretched. All of our cargo net sizes are unstretched unless otherwise indicated. This net would most likely be just a bit too small for your utility trailer. I would recommend one of the following 3 cargo nets. Deluxe Bungee Truck Net, # 95005, which is 60 x 78 inches unstretched and would be a good choice if you will be stacking things higher than where the hooks attach on...

  • The operation of the Erickson Tie-Downs with the Multiplier Ratchet like part # EM58512 and part # EM58511. I have attached a video that shows how the tie-down is used to tighten and also release the tension. You can check out the attached photo of the Multiplier Ratchet with some of the features pointed out. The release lever is pulled up to disengage the ratcheting handle. As the video shows, to lock it in position after tightening you would pull the release lever and move...

  • The Rola Flat Strap Cargo Net, part # 59200, will fit your Rola Roof Mounted Cargo Basket, part # 59504. This cargo net uses flat straps with a bungee cord net that allows it to grip a variety of different items. The Rola cargo net provides plenty of strength, but that is dependent upon the type of terrain you are traveling on and the weight of the times on the roof rack. For heavier items you may want to use ratcheting straps like the Retractable Ratchet Straps with Push...

  • Snap-Loc recommends using a 5/16 inch carriage bolt to install the e-track tie down. You will need bolts of sufficient length to go through the plywood and the aluminum frame members. Using galvanized hardware would be acceptable, but stainless would offer better corrosion resistance. The Snap-Loc tie down you referred to is constructed of stainless steel, so you should have little concern about the reaction between the fastener and the tie down if you went with the stainless...

  • I have a 2 kayak carrier that may work for your 2016 Subaru Outback factory roof rack. The Inno # INA450 is a kayak carrier rack that will mount on crossbars with a width of 3.5 inches wide by 1 inch tall. If your factory bar is over 1 inch but less than 2 inches then you will need the longer bolt kit # INISF711 and 2 sets of the # INISF716 bolts. Your crossbars must also be 27 inches apart center to center or greater for this kayak rack to mount properly. If your 2016...

  • Using a ratchet strap is fairly easy once you learn the basics. Play with the levers and releases before you start trying to strap something in. Learn how the devices work, and how to use it should become clear. If you think of the ratchet as a jaw, you would open it up to 180 degrees. Slide the strap through the slotted spool. Pull most of the slack out, but leave some because the ratchet will need some strap to start an even wrap on the spool. Make sure you keep the straps...

  • The cargo net you are looking at, the Covercraft Spidy Gear Bed Webb Stretchable Cargo Net # 80112-11 is a great net for your 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT. The bed of your vehicle is about 55" x 48" so while the net is 5" longer than your bed, it gives you a little more slack to load more cargo. This net is also the closest we carry to your bed dimensions. This net includes plastic hooks and D-rings that will easily hook onto your vehicle. The net also includes a storage bag...

  • The sizes given are the un-stretched dimensions. The SportRack # SR0035 you referenced would be an excellent choice. The unstretched dimension of the net is 20x60.

  • The auto-retract function on the CargoBuckle Retractable Ratchet Strap # IMF104933 operates by lifting the orange handle to its upright position as shown in the linked video. If the strap will not retract when the handle is lifted then the unit may be damaged and requires replacement.

  • We have a video review of the CargoBuckle G3 Retractable, Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps, # IMF18800, and I have linked it for you. Installation is straight forward. The straps have a mounting hole on the base and include nuts, bolts, and washers. All you will have to do is drill an appropriate sized hole where you wish to mount them and use the supplied hardware to attach to the frame. Regular hand tools, box wrenches and/or sockets, are all you will need to tighten them down. If...

  • I would say the Curt cargo net # C18202 and the SportRack model # SR0035 are comparable in quality. Yakima has an option, # Y07146 but it is a 32 by 20 inch. If it were me and the 32 by 20 inch would work I would go with the Yakima as the highest quality option of the 3. Part of what makes the Yakima version better is the joints where the cords criss-cross are covered with little plus sign-shaped housings for protection. The other 2 just have the cords tied off where they...

  • If the Highland Retractable Ratchet Strap, # 1154000, is not long enough to reach across your boat, then we do have a wide variety of 2 inch wide straps that are longer. I have listed a few different size straps for you to check out, as well as a link to our ratchet straps.

  • When selecting straps and tie downs, you will want to look at the maximum load strength and the safe working load limit. A strap like # EM69627 has a break strength of 10,000 pounds but a safe working load limit of 3,300 pounds. Using 2 of these minimum would equal out to 6,600 pounds. Because the weight of a tractor can depend on the level of the fluids and things like mud getting stuck to it, I would actually look at a higher rated strap like # 58514. This strap has a safe...

  • The Snap-Loc Single-Slot E-Track Bolt-On Tie-Down Anchor # SLSS measures 5-3/4 x 1 x 1/2 inches. These single-slot E-Track Anchors are an ideal way to add additional single tie-down points to a trailer. The low-profile steel brackets can install on the ceiling, wall or floor of your trailer and can be inverted to provide a recessed tie-down point. They are rated for 3000-lbs each and are sold as single units. These are suitable for installation on any interior parts of...

  • With extension # 59505 installed on Rola cargo basket # 59504, the overall dimensions will be 70-3/4 inches long by 40-1/2 inches wide. The cargo net # 7330 can stretch to be 84 inches long and 60 inches wide so it would fit the basket with the extension installed. I have included a link to a video review of the net for you. I also linked a video on the Rola basket.
