They protect both. A prop cover keeps the motor's prop from tearing the boat cover and helps shield the blades from damage and weather. Pick a cover that matches your prop style, whether 2-blade or 3-blade. Confirm the cover's length/diameter matches your prop so it stays on securely during travel.

Use a heavy-duty lock to deter theft and protect the keyway from salt and grit. Light rust can start after a few months in salt, so add a protective cap or cover and apply lubricant to the lock. Check your mounting bolt spacing and compare to the lock's openings to ensure a snug, rattle-free fit.

Compare the cover's listed overall height, length, and width to your motor's dimensions. Measure your motor and make sure those numbers line up so the cover isn't too tight or loose. A properly sized cover will go on easily and stay put without stressing seams or leaving exposed areas.

Use a trailer crossmember bracket to mount if there's no stern roller. If adding a roller, match the roller/bracket and U-bolts to your trailer frame size. Drilling may be required; for galvanized frames use a carbon bit. After mounting, verify the saver reaches the motor and the trailer point squarely.

Match the length so it spans from motor to trailer with proper clearance. Aim to reduce motor rocking and take weight off the transom and tilt/trim.
