  • How to Open Yakima SkyBox 18 When Keys Are Lost
  • If you do not know the key number, your best alternative is to have a locksmith open the lock for you. I do not recommend trying to drill the lock out, as it is highly likely that the box would be damaged. Once the lock is unlocked, you can use your control key to remove the lock core. If you no longer have the control key, we offer them as part # Y8007835. The key number will be engraved on the side of the lock cylinder. Once the key number is known, you can order a replacement key. I...

  • Differences Between a Class II Trailer Hitch and a Class III Trailer Hitch for use of a Bike Rack
  • The bike rack you have selected will fit in a 2 inch by 2 inch hitch. The Class II only disclaimer is for the 1-1/4 by 1-1/4 inch hitch model, # Y02445. The differences between class II and class III are the size of the hitch opening, 1 1/4 inch square as opposed to the class III 2 inch square opening, and the weight capacity of the hitches. This bike rack will fit your class III hitch (see instructions link below). We have an article that explains the differences between hitch Classes...

  • How to Replace Lost Keys and Locks for a Yakima Space Case Cargo Carrier
  • The part that you referenced, Yakima Control Key # Y8007835, is used to remove an unlocked lock core from a Yakima cargo box or roof rack. If you still have your control key you can use it to remove the current lock cores from your Space Case cargo box to obtain the lock code. With the lock code you can then order the appropriate replacement keys. If you do not have the control key you have the option of ordering a replacement control key by itself or with two new lock cylinders. We...

  • How to Remove Locked Yakima SKS Lock Cores on Roof Rack Without the Key
  • According to our friends at Yakima, the Control Key for the Yakima Same Key System, # Y07204 will only work on lock cores that are already unlocked. If you know the key number, you can order a replacement using the page I have provided a link to. If you do not know the original key number, having a locksmith pick the locks and then using the SKS control key to replace the cores will be your best option. Once the cores are removed, you can order replacements on the page I have provided...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2 Adult and 2 Kids Bikes on a 2004 Ford Explorer
  • We have everything that you will need to carry your 2 adult and 2 kids bikes on your husbands 2004 Ford Explorer. I recommend a Yakima bike rack, my personal favorite is the RidgeBack 4 Bike Rack, # Y02458. This bike rack is a great value for the quality and features that it has and it includes an integrated locking cable. Each of these bike racks can carry 4 bikes, include anti-sway cradles and have anti-rattle hitch pins to reduce the movement of the bike rack and bikes when driving....

  • How to Remove a Yakima SKS Lock Core from the Lock Housing
  • This is actually a common issue but it is easily resolved. If the change key comes out but the lock cylinder does not, the first step is to make sure the lock is unlocked. Then insert the change key. You may need to put tension on the key by pushing up or down or to the side while slowly pulling the key back. Once it comes out a little you can grab it and pull it out of the housing. I made a video showing how to do this.

  • Best Way to Stabilize the Front Wheel when Carrying Bikes on the Yakima DoubleDown 4 Bike Rack
  • I would use a hook and loop strap, like the Softride Soft Velcro Tie Down for Bike Racks, # SR18679, to stabilize the front wheel of my bikes on a hanging rack like the Yakima DoubleDown 4 Bike Rack. These are also available in a 4 pack, # SR26260. You would just need to run the strap through the bikes front wheel and secure it around the bike frame. I illustrated this in a photo for you, see link.

  • Recommended Roof Rack for 2018 Subaru Crosstrek
  • I would be happy to make a recommendation for you, but would you be able to tell me if your 2018 Crosstrek has raised rails on the roof that run front to back or is it a naked roof (with no rails or anything else on it)? Thanks so much for any information you can provide.

  • How to Mount Bike Carrier Without Obstructing Rear License Plate from View
  • In many states if your rear license plate is obstructed from view by a bike rack, luggage rack or a similar device, a vehicle owner has the option to obtain a temporary license plate. This third license plate is a paper document that is placed on the interior of the vehicle's rear window in a manner clearly visible from the outside of the vehicle, but doesn't obstruct the driver's view out of the rear window. Another option is to use the bike rack you want to use and move the plate to...

  • Will Yakima Skybox Cargo Box Fit Thule AeroBlade Crossbars On 2014 Subaru Forester
  • I pulled some Thule AeroBlade crossbars along with the mounting hardware for a Yakima Skybox Pro, part # Y90135 to do a test fit for you. I have included a short video that shows how the Skybox should fit with the crossbars. As you can see in the video, there is a small amount of gap but since the Skybox hardware is adjustable, it can be tightened to hold securely to the crossbars you have on your Forester. The Thule Snowboard Rack part # TH575 needs 4-1/2 to 5 inches of free bar...

  • Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier for the Roof of a Pop-Up Camper
  • First you are going to need a roof rack for your pop up camper. You can use the Swagman Roamer, # S80510 which will attach to the top of a camper as long as it is not a plastic, one-piece roof and as long as it has a flat roof. You can then use a carrier such as the stacker, # TH830, to carry both kayaks. I have linked a video review of this carrier for you.

  • Rooftop Cargo Box Recommendations for 2017 Subaru Outback
  • All rooftop cargo boxes will generate wind noise and to some degree all will negatively affect mileage but those with the more aerodynamic low-profile shape, such as Thule's Hyper XL # TH612, will tend to be quieter and will have slightly less effect on fuel economy. At 90-inches external length this is the longest box Thule recommends for your Outback. It can handle skis up to 201-cm in length so it may be more than you need. It also weighs 53-lbs empty so keep in mind that what you can...

  • Kayak Carrier Recommendation for Toyota RAV4 with Factory Roof Rack
  • When it comes to a kayak carrier, I personally like the Rhino-Rack Nautic Roof Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs, # RR571. This carrier allows one person to easily load a kayak from the rear of the vehicle. If at some point you plan on carrying more than just one kayak on your roof, I would recommend going with Yakima's JayLow Kayak Carrier, # Y04073. • Hitch Mounted Bike Rack and Ski Carrier Recommendation
  • For a hitch mounted ski and bike rack combo the best place to start is with an adapter like the Yakima HitchSki part # Y02418 that you referenced. This is a ski rack adapter for hanging bike racks. Next you would need a bike rack to use with this adapter. For that we have the Yakima FullTilt part # Y02462 for a tilting 4 bike rack. Or for a more budget friendly bike rack we have the Yakima DoubleDown part # Y02424.

  • Which Roof Location Offers the Least Wind Resistance When Installing Yakima Roof Cargo Box # Y07195
  • For the least amount of wind resistance, I would recommend installing a roof cargo box towards the rear of the vehicle. The only problem with moving the cargo box towards the rear on a minivan is you will want to make sure that the cargo box will not get in the way of the rear hatch when it is opened. So you will need to attach the cargo box to your crossbars and adjust the location on your roof by moving the cargo box forwards or backwards to the best location on your vehicle, before tightening...
