Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Front Mount Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Ford F-250

Today, on this 2012 Ford F-250, we're going to install part number 65049 from Draw-Tite. This is what the hitch looks like when its installed on the vehicle. Next, we'll give you some measurements to help you out when selecting some accessories. From the top of the receiver openings down to the ground should be about 15-3/4 inches and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper in this case, we measured out to the license plate, its going to be about 5-1/4 inches. Now, we'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First thing you need to do is go ahead and remove some bumper brackets there at the end of the frame.

There'll be two bolt assemblies, one on each side that we have to remove to lower our brackets. These brackets and the bolts will not be reinstalled. This will be the same on the passenger side. Next, we'll go ahead and remove the floor lid below the bumper. There will be nut and bolt assemblies, as well as plastic rivets. Once we have all those removed, we can go ahead and lower it and out of the way.

Now, at this point, we can go ahead and see where the hitch installs on the vehicle. There will be an oval slot on the side of the frame and then the hitch, we'll use one of the existing holes from one of the bumper brackets that was removed earlier. Before we install the hardware, we'll go ahead and show you how it looks on the hitch before we install it. The bolts will mount from the inside to the outside. And for the fastener closest to the bumper, it will be the bolt and the flat washer and then the lock washer and nut and on the bolt going towards the back will be the carriage bolt and the a lock nut and washer.

One thing to know about this carriage bolt is that the head of it will lock into the inside oval of the frame. Now, with an extra set of hands, we'll go ahead and push it up and align it with the holes. We'll use an alignment tool to help line up her holes and then we'll go ahead and install the hardware. We'll start with the bolts going towards the front. Then, well use the bolt leader that comes with the kit to install the carriage bolts that go towards the back of the vehicle. We'll guide our pull wire through the mounting location and then out the access hole.

We'll then thread the bolts and pull them into position. Now, with all the hardware loose, we can maneuver the hitch around to get our holes to line up. We'll repeat this on the other side. Once all the hardware is installed, we'll go ahead and tighten down the bolts and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. Our hitch is fully installed. Now, we'll go ahead and turn out attention to the spoiler that we removed earlier. We'll hold up our spoiler up to the hitch to get a general idea of where we need to cut out for it. We'll measure from the center of the fastener down to the hitch. That will give us an idea of how far to go down. Now, this can vary from vehicle to vehicle. In this case, the measurement was around 2.5 inches. We'll transfer that to the backside of our spoiler and then we'll go ahead and measure off from there 1.5 inches on each side to give a total of 3 inches. It will make a square of 3.5 inches wide x 3.5 inches long. We'll go ahead and use a rotary tool to go ahead and make our sets. That's our first cut. We'l go ahead and do a test fit to make sure everything is okay. Next, we'll go ahead and take some time out to clean up the edges. With it installed for good, then we'll reinstall all the fasteners. With that, our install is finished. There you have it for part numbers 65049 for Draw-Tite on our 2012 Ford F-250.

Great product. It fit perfectly up onto the frame of my F-250. In 2-1/2 hrs I had my Honda 150 scoter mounted on the front of the F 250. I’m pretty handy at manufacturing things but this system by e- trailer is the only way to go! And Greg on the phone was reassuring help. I’m totally satisfied, thanks e- trailer 697570

The front hitch fit my 2015 Ford F350 like a glove! Completing the installation however, was another story. Getting the bolts in the brackets to mount it was a job for more nimble limbs and fingers than mine. But with my brother's help, we got the job accomplished. The hole in the air dam was a bit tricky, but fit was very good after cutting. Overall, the job turned out OK, and the bike rack I had fit great on it, solving the problem of where to carry 2 bikes when the new (to me) 5th wheel has no bumper, and I had little faith in attaching a less than sturdy rack to the ladder on back of the rig with 2 70+ # bikes.. 697885

Ordered on Sunday. Arrived Thursday, ahead of the predicted date, and this with free shipping! The fit was perfect and the bracket lined up exactly with the pre-existing holes in the truck frame. Recommend a second person to make installation easier. I did it alone with a jack holding up one side, but do not recommend that. Installation was very simple, with only four bolts. Make sure to trim the vinyl air dam before installing the hitch bracket. Also beware of the electrical wires (lights) that are close to the install location. They are not in the way, but try to avoid pinching them during the install process. 669805

Install took me about two and half hours by myself laying on my back plus 30 minutes to run to Auto Zone to borrow a 24mm deep socket. Manager let me borrow one since I only needed it for 10 minutes to torque the four bolts. Etrailer shipped same day provided me with tracking and two full business days later hitch showed up. Measure five times and cut once on the air dam. 663643

I originally purchased this front hitch to be able to drive my trailers into tight spots instead of backing them in. It works as expected, I only wish the tongue weight limits were more than 500 lbs. One added feature is I use it to carry my mountain bikes in the front of the vehicle while pulling a travel trailer at the same time. 655907

I ordered a Tonno Pro folding soft Tonneau Cover and a front mount Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch. The Tonneau cover came fast and I installed it in 5 minutes just like they said it keeps out the weather and looks good. The hitch took two weeks to arrive but it looks great I installed it in about 3 hours. I had a front hitch on my last truck and it is the greatest thing for moving trailers around the yard. Plus it can be used to mount a winch or other things like a bike rack. 399368

Love the front receiver for my F250 Super Duty Putting the boat in the backyard between trees and into the building can be like threading a needle. Pushing it makes all the difference. Having the trailer pivot point just a few feet from the steering tires makes this job super easy. First time everytime. Super easy install. Watch the install video once and you know everything you need to know. 146719

This hitch was very easy to install and looks great !! The only thing I didn`t like was that the inside dimension of the hitch flange (were the hitch slides over or around the truck frame) was about 3/8" wider than the truck frame. This made it very difficult to tighten and making the hitch symmetrical installation as I already laid out the center line of the truck and cut the hole in the valance under the front bumper. I did call the customer service team and her reply was (it probably got bent during shipping) WOW !! Anyway, This item looks good, simple installation, serves the purpose and I would buy another one if needed !!! 464488

Hardest part of the mounting process was the air dam fitting. The jig to install one pair of bolts made a normal bloody knuckle job a snap. RECOMMEND If one person tries to install solo have a couple of small hydraulic jacks and drift pins in easy reach. Instructions were very lucid 428654

Easy installation. You may want to use two people, but one can do it. Took a little over 90 minutes doing it by myself. Instructions are clear and concise. I plan to use the front hitch for a bike rack when pulling our pop up camper. Or will also make putting it in the garage easier, as it can be pushed in. Meets my needs perfectly. 260952

2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Needed a front receiver to put a bike rack on my 2015 Ford F-350 (2WD) for use with my slide-in camper. Price on the details page I was viewing changed overnight when I went to place my order, but etrailer honored the earlier price. Order was placed 6/12 with a 3-5 days estimated delivery. It arrived on 6/14. Very fast service & shipping! Installation took me about 3 hours, working alone & without power tools and a pause to re-view the installation video. My truck did not have the brackets referenced for possible removal. Would be nice if video showed how one installs the front bolts with the limited accessibility between frame and bumper that I had in to 2015 F-350, with the installed tow hooks. Front left nut had limited clearance between frame, which affected my ability to use a socket and torque wrench. Finished installation provides about 9" ground clearance and requires about 3" hitch length to clear the bumper and grill. Otherwise, installation was simple, pretty much as described in the 2012 Ford video. 395063

Front receiver Ford F250 The install was pretty straight forward and the fitment was perfect. The bolt pull wire made the rear bolts go in very easy. I had to remove the bottom bolts in the fog lights to get the torque wrench in the front bolts, but that only took about 30 secs. My Warn Winch has a new home. 4717

This review is for my 2015 F350 4x4 Platinum. Thanks etrailer from start to finish. Found my front hitch easy, Arrived on third day. The box was torn open from shipping, however thanks etrailer for the protective end cover and wrapping hardware with heavy tape. No scratches or missing parts (yay) installed by myself with a pump jack. Perfect fit as if Ford made it. Thanks for the follow up on day it was delivered thanks George (nice touch) This was my first buy from e-trailer and I'm very satisfied. I wanted an easy website to find and feel confident the part needed was the exact fit for my truck, name brand part, free shipping, and a decent price with excellent customer service. Found it!!! 425408

Installed 65049 on my 2015 F350 DW 4 WD. All went good. Put a strap around bumper and receiver to hold in place while I got a couple of bolts in. Removal of front air dam was also helpful. I had to loosen two 15 mm bolts on the stabilizer in order to get driver side in. Was either grind a little off or loosen u shaped stabilizer. By my self about 4 hours (just hand tools). 563552

Excellent Product! Installation took longer than expected. I don't have a car lift so I did the entire installation with all truck wheels on the ground and with me sliding up under the truck. Applying the lock down torque was a little difficult but everything else was a piece of cake. I've never done this before so I was nervous - I'm frugal and didn't want to pay to have it done. I got most of my install information from the etrailer video but I'm glad I read the instructions that came with the receiver because the unit comes with two different bolt sizes nearly identical in size and the size difference is imperceptible unless you are looking closely for it. I ended up buying a deep throat 15/16 six point socket with a 1/2" drive to fit into my 24" long breaker bar and I also bought blue lock-tite and four additional nuts. The bolts are long enough to add another nut which when torqued against the first nut serves to lock it in place better. The long bolt length required a deep throat socket. 385352

Nice fit, pretty good instructions, could use a 2nd wire bolt puller. Suggest install using an ASSISTANT! I did mine alone, in a garage, no lift......3 hours. You NEED to take off the facia/air dam. FYI-Ford uses an 18mm nut to hold on the 2 brackets that need removal. Cut out for receiver on airdam using a Dremel tool,. 231601

Great hitch the kit was ok they gave me two bolts that did not fit the nuts and where too long.I think you should provide a templet for the cut in the plastic it would be cleaner finish. 20376

2 bolts wo the right nuts? That says pretty bad QA on the part of Draw-Tite. How hard is it, to match bolts and nuts? Boo! Makes me wonder if I should buy Draw-Tite over another mfg. A match is one of those things that one wouldnt think of until one has to make a run to the nearest hardware store on 2nd thought, thats a great way to kill the day which, might keep you from mowing the lawn today, dearI agree that it wouldnt cost the mfgr. much to include a template. Personally, I dont appreciate the cut, try, cut approach either.Just my dime - which still makes a handy screwdriver.

  • Recommended Front Hitch Receiver for 2011 Four Winds Chateau on Ford E-450 Cutaway Chassis
For your 2011 Ford E-450 Cutaway RV frame the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 65053 is the correct front mounted hitch. This is a simple bolt on assembly that is estimated to take about 1-1/2 hours to complete. It does require trimming of an underbody panel in a couple of places which is part of that time estimate. I've attached the installation instructions and a video to assist. The # 65049 you asked from will not fit your motorhome.

  • Would Draw Tite Hitch part # 65049 Fit a 2013 Ford F-250 4 Wheel Drive
I am not sure who told you the Draw Tite hitch part # 65049 was not a fit, but I checked with Draw Tite and they confirm it as a fit for your truck so it would work well for you.

  • Front Mount Hitch and Motorcycle Carrier for a 2008 Ford F-350 4WD
For a front hitch for your 2008 Ford F-350 the Draw Tite hitch part # 65049 that you referenced has been confirmed as a fit and would work well for you. To carry a 350 lb motorcycle would only require a carrier designed for the weight of it. The # UF48-979033 would be a great option for this as it is small, lightweight, and has a 400 lb capacity. You would need to be aware that your motorcycle is potentially going to block air flow to the radiator and block headlights.

  • Will Front Mount Hitch Fit 2011 Ford F-350 That Has Snow Plow Package And Oil Coolers Installed
I did some research on your 2011 Ford F-350. I was unable to find the snow plow package and what is included with it on your truck. I have attached the installation instructions for the Draw-Tite Front Hitch, part # 65049 you can check out. You will want to check the mounting locations in the instructions for the trailer hitch to see if it will interfere with the snow plow package or oil and transmission coolers you have installed. I have also attached a link to an installation video...

  • Can Front-Mount Hitch Be Installed On 2011 Ford F-150 4x4 With Grille Guard Installed
I did some research and found instructions for installing the RanchHand Legend Grille Guard on your 2011 F-250 4x4. You can check out the attached photo that shows where a front hitch is mounted on a Ford F-250. You may find that the bottom bar on your grille guard interferes with being able to install a front mount trailer hitch like part # 65049. I have attached the installation instructions for the 65049 you can take a look at. The instructions do note which frame holes are to be...

  • Compatible Tonneau Cover and Kayak Carrier for 2016 Ford F-250 Towing Grand Design Fifth Wheel
I would be happy to help accommodate what you are looking to do, and let's start at the front of your 2016 Ford F-250 and work back. First you are going to need Front Mount Hitch # 65049 and the Thule GoalPost # TH997 along with a roof rack, the Rhino Rack # RRRS486B, which looks like an OEM rack and has an aero design for reduced wind nose. You would then want to add a pair of the Rhino-Rack Pads with Tie-Downs # RRRWP03, and if you needed additional tie-downs I recommend checking...

  • Can a High-Low Adapter and Hitch Extender with Winch Mount be Used with Winch on 2012 Ford F-250
I do not recommend using a high-low adapter to achieve the rise you are looking for. The problem is that you would have to use the adapter, possibly an extension, and then a winch mount. That creates a lot of links in the chain so to speak and a lot of extra stress on the front mount hitch # 65049 on your 2012 Ford F-250. The use of extensions and adapters reduces the tongue weight, or in this case the vertical pull, by 50 percent. With that many accessories connected the vertical pull...

  • Front Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2013 Ford F-350
Your math is solid...but we can't recommend the use of more than one hitch extender/adapter. A better option would be a front hitch on your 2013 Ford F-350 like the Draw Tite part # 65049 so that you can carry a bike rack up front. Then for a bike rack to carry in the front hitch the Thule Roadway part # TH912XTR would fit and be a great option.

  • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for Front Hitch of 2011 Ford F-250
4 bike racks tend to stick out pretty far so it's somewhat hard to pick out an ideal 4 bike rack solution for a front hitch on the front of a vehicle. Things you should consider are blocked headlights potentially, reduced air flow to radiator and possible reduced vision due to the bikes hanging off the front of the vehicle. Something simple and with a thin upright mast like the Thule Hitching Post Pro part # TH934XTR would be the best option most likely. I attached a review video for...

  • Is the Plastic Air Dam Removed on a 2012 Ford F-350 To Install Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch # 65049
It is recommended to remove the plastic air dam attached to the bottom of the front bumper to install the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch, # 65049. It will be much easier to install the hitch and cut the hole with the air dam removed. I have attached the installation instructions for this hitch as well as an installation video on a 2012 Ford F-250 for you to check out. The installation on the F-250 will be the same as your F-350.
