Review of Reese Fifth Wheel King Pin - Pin Box Upgrade - RP94720

Today we're gonna take a look at the Reese Goose Box 5th-wheel to gooseneck air ride coupler adapter for the Lippert 1621 and the Lippert 0719 pin boxes. Has a 20000 pound weight capacity. Now this air ride coupler will let you tow your 5th-wheel trailer with your gooseneck hitch. This Goose Box will replace the standard pin box that's on your 5th-wheel trailer, and this part is endorsed by Lippert components, so it will not affect the warranty on their trailer frame. This uses a fully enclosed airbag on the inside, and then right down here they have dual shock absorbers. They'll both provide cushion and absorb your road shock, helps improve handling an overall ride. This will decrease both your vertical shock, which is the bounce up and down, and the longitudinal shock which is your chucking back and forth. This does limit the strain on your truck and trailer frames, the airbag on the inside can be adjusted to give you just the right amount of support. Right here, this opening, this is your air inflation indicator, and when this shows all black like it is now, that means it has low air pressure. Now, you put your air in your airbag right back here where the air valve is.

And the internal air bag and built-in strut work together with the rubberized pivoting head to achieve a dramatically smoother ride. This is going to replace the standard pin box on your fifth wheel trailer from Lippert. Lippert 1621 or one-six-two-one. And it's going to be designed, again, to ensure that smoother ride with the rubber compound built into the head.

Reese Fifth Wheel King Pin - Pin Box Upgrade - ST400-SW19K Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Reese Sidewinder Fifth-wheel King Pin with the rotating turret, has a 19,000 pound weight capacity. Now, with this sidewinder, the fifth-wheel trailer's pivot point is moved an extra 22 inches toward the rear of your tow vehicle, so that you can easily make 90 degree turns even with a sharp bed truck. There's no need to get out of your truck, throw a switch, push a button, amount a fifth-wheel slider. The trailer will trap for more closely to the truck for better drivability, and that 22 inches it moves is measured from the center of the king pin right up here to the center of the turret post right here. Now, this sidewinder and turret assembly will bolt onto your fifth-wheel trailer and includes the mounting hardware. The king pin right up here is what'll connect to your standard fifth-wheel trailer hitch. It allows easy hook up and disconnect at any angle. Now, they do include a universal locking wedge that'll prevent the king pin here from rotating in your hitch jaws and allows to rotate back here at the turret.

Reese Fifth Wheel King Pin - Pin Box Upgrade - RP61411 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Reese Sidewinder Fifth Wheel King Pin, with the rotating turret. It has a 19,000 pound weight capacity. Now with this sidewinder, the fifth wheel trailer's pivot point is moved an extra 22 inches towards the rear of your tow vehicle, so that you can easily make 90 degree turns even with a short bed truck, no need to get out of your truck, throw a switch, push a button, or mount a fifth-wheel slider, and the trailer will track more closely to the truck for better drivability. Now that 22 inches is measured from the center of the king pin here, which is in your hitch jaws, to the center of this turret post. The sidewinder and the turret assembly bolts onto your fifth wheel trailer, does include the mounting hardware to install it. The kingpin right up here is what will connect to your standard fifth wheel trailer hitch, and allows easy hook-up and disconnect at any angle. Now they do include a universal locking wedge to prevent the king pin right here from rotating in the hitch jaws, because basically what that does is it'll lock it into your hitch jaws, and your rotation will come from this rotating turn right back here. Now, we do recommend some fifth wheel hitches may require a customer wedge and seven universal locking wedge, and we do sell the customer wedges separately on our website.

Basically, the help limit chucking, they use a parallel linkage right here. The system on the Glide Ride will connect the kingpin plate and the pin box with two specially designed links on each side: two on this side and two on this side. These links will allow this kingpin to move along with your truck without disrupting the motion of your trailer, thus avoiding the push-pull action that results in chucking.

Reese Sidewinder with Rotating Turret Installation - 2019 Forest River Sabre Fifth Wheel

Speaker 1: Today on our 2019 Forest River Sabre fifth wheel, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Reese sidewinder fifth wheel kingpin with rotating turret, part number RP61420. Now whenever we're doing fifth wheel towing with a truck that has less than an eight foot bed, typically we're going to have some clearance issues. The front of our fifth wheel is going to want to make contact with the cab whenever we make a sharp turn.Well that's where our sidewinder's going to come into play. It's going to move the pivot point from the pin itself right here. It's going to move it all the way back to where our pin box mounts. So we're going to have a full 22 inches of extra clearance and it's all going to be done because of this capture plate here and the rotating turret. Before we put the sidewinder in, you can see we did have a little bit of an issue where our camper came up and hit the side of our truck.

Reese 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Reese line of Fifth Airborne, Fifth Wheel Air Ride King Pin. Now the Fifth Airborne we're looking at today is a replacement for what we did was the inaudible 00:00:09 1116, but these are designed in many different varieties to fit a great deal of pin boxes that we most commonly see on the fifth wheel style trailers. You want to check our fit guide to make sure you getting the right one for your application. Now they've thought about the short bed truck user as well, so you're not limited to just using this on the long bed. They had this Sidewinder option on some of the pin boxes and what it does is, it moves our pivot point from right here on top of our gooseneck to just underneath the trailer at our connection point there. This can give you a lot of added turning radius, if needed, with the short bed applications. Now the Fifth Airbornes available in the 16, 18, and 21,000 pound models. It's more important, though, that you get the pin box replacement that's designed for your application.

Reese Sidewinder with Rotating Turret Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to be taking a look at and reviewing Reese's Sidewinder Fifth-Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret. Part number, RP61420.The Sidewinder's going to be an all in one solution for your turning maneuver needs with your fifth-wheel trailer. It's going to reposition the pivot point from your king pin, 22" back. Moving the pin back will be ideal for short bed trucks, where clearance between your trailer and your cab is too tight for close corner maneuvers. When comparing this to other options on the market, such as manual and auto sliders, you're going to get further travel, as most sliders only offer a foot to a foot and a half, where this has 22 total inches.Manual sliders are going to cause you to have to get out of the truck to position it back, get back in and then make your tight corner and then reset it again. Whereas, this is always going to be in position ready to go at all times. Set it and forget it.And when compared to auto sliders, which also eliminate the need to get out of the vehicle, this is going to give you considerably longer length. Nearly double that of some auto sliders. The design functions by using a locking wedge that goes up against your king pin.

Fifth Wheel King Pin Questions and Answers

  • Can I Tow a 5th Wheel Travel Trailer with a Semi Truck or 18-Wheeler
  • The king pin dimensions can be the same between fifth wheel trailers and large commercial trailers. Both types of trailers often use a standard 2 inch king pin although semis sometimes have a 3-1/2 inch. As long as your truck fits a 2 inch king pin it can work. Semi trucks were not technically designed to tow camping style fifth wheel trailers, so there are several factors that you will want to take into consideration before attempting to tow. First, you will want to make sure the...

  • Differences Between a Reese Sidewinder and Revolution on a 5th Wheel Trailer and 2012 Ford F-150
  • A Sidewinder and a Revolution are the same thing. It is called a Revolution when it comes as OEM equipment on a trailer. There are some design differences as well in terms of how each attaches to the trailer. Those are the only differences. To determine if the Revolution offers enough extra clearance for your truck and trailer, there are some measurements to look at. First, measure from the center of the hitch jaws to the back of the truck cab and add 22 inches (length of Revolution...

  • How To Determine Which Pin Box I Have and What Replacements Are Available
  • I spoke with my contact at Trailair and from your serial number we were able to determine that your trailer came with a 1621 HD pin box which is a long pin box style. I was unable to obtain the exact part number for your Trailair pin box but from the picture that you provided, it looks as though someone may have replaced the original long style pin box with a medium style. In order to determine this you will just need to take a quick measurement from the back row of bolts to the center...

  • Best Fifth Wheel Pin Box Replacement Recommendation for a Lippert 1621 Pin Box
  • If you are looking for the best fifth wheel pin box to replace your Lippert 1621 that will provide the smoothest ride quality and won't break the bank I would recommend the new Trail Air Flex Air part # LC328492. This pin box works to fight and prevent vertical and horizontal chucking to provide you with a very smooth ride quality. I attached a demo video for more info. Since you have a short bed truck I believe the best option would be a Sidewinder Pin Box with a 5th Airborne Air Ride...

  • Comparing Lippert TrailAir and Reese 5th Airborne Replacement Pin Boxes for 5th Wheel Trailer
  • If your trailer gross weight is under 18,000 lbs you might consider the TrailAir Flex Air, part # LC328492. The TrailAir pin box you were reviewing, part # LC158778, is a 21,000 lb-rated replacement for a Lippert 1621 pin box. The comparable item from 5th Airborne is part # 5AB-E1621-610; this is also a replacement for the Lippert 1621 and is also rated at 21,000 lbs capacity. (But again please note that the TrailAir is not for use with any type of gooseneck adapter.) I have linked...

  • The Lippert TrailAir Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Boxes # LC328492 and # LC369535 are both bolt-on replacements for the model 1621 OEM pin box. Their difference, as you noted, is in their rated weight capacities; 18K for # LC328492 and 21K for # LC369535. Either one will be fine for use with a compatible trailer with a GVWR of 16,500-lbs. But yes, safety margin in the form of extra capacity is a good thing. The relatively low incremental cost for the 21K pin box over the 18K makes a pretty...

  • Trailair Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC328484 is actually not the correct model to replace the Lippert 1621 pin box. Instead it fits the Lippert 0719 pin box so it will not work with your trailer. For your 1621 pin box there are more options: # LC328492 rated for 18,000 pounds # 5AB-E1621-610 rated for 21,000 pounds # 5AB-E1621-16K rated for 16,000 pounds # LC158778 rated for 21,000 pounds # LC328330 rated for 18,000 pounds # LC328329 rated for 21,000 pounds # DM8250008 rated...

The air spring and shocks are stronger on the unit designed for 21,000 lbs. The Lippert 1621 pin box allows for either weight, so I recommend the one that is most compatible with the trailer GVWR. Either one will give you a smoother ride, but you do want to make sure your...

As far as the angle you would have the same limitations using a Sidewinder as you would with any pin box. To compensate for awkward angles a hitch that has a full floating head (can move freely in any direction, not just side to side and front to back) would be the best hitch to use.
