Vehicle Lights Questions and Answers

  • Which 1141 LED Bulbs are Closest to Producing the Same Light as Incandescent Bulbs
  • An LED soft light would be closer to an incandescent bulb in appearance. You would likely want the higher wattage bulb in the location where you need more or brighter light. The soft light bulbs # AR50367 for 3.6 watt would be closest to the incandescent. The bright white lights, # AR50368 at 3.6, may seem overpowering compared to soft white or incandescent bulbs.

  • What is the Difference Between Putco 9006 and 9006XS Headlight Bulbs
  • The difference between the 9006 and the 9006xs bulbs is the type of base the light has. A 9006 size bulb will have a 90 degree angle base, like part # P239006NB, while a 9006xs bulb will have a straight base to plug into, like part # P239006XDW. I am including a picture that will show the difference in the two bulbs. A 9006 bulb and a 9006XS bulb will fit different vehicles, so you will need to check your owners manual or your current bulb size for the correct bulb that you will need....

  • Is there a Backup-Alert Reverse Light for Bulb Type # 921 for the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox
  • Your 2013 Chevrolet Equinox uses a type 921 backup light bulb. The Hopkins product you reviewed, part # HM20101VA, is a replacement for the type 3156 bulb. My contact at Hopkins advises that they do not offer an audible alarm replacement bulb for the 921 type. I also checked with two other suppliers of aftermarket lighting products, Putco and Optronics, and neither of these suppliers offers a 921 replacement bulb with alarm. However, we do offer the Custer Surface Mount Back-up Alarm,...

  • How To Replace Day Time Running Lights on 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe
  • I checked on how to change the daytime running light bulbs on your 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. The removal of the headlamp assembly is as follows. 1. Remove the six bolts on top of the grill. 2. Remove the two (7mm) screws, three push pins, and two pop style pins in the wheel well. 3. Pull the wheel well lining towards you and remove the two (10mm) bolts that go upwards into the fender, this will release the bumper mounting bracket. 4. Remove the three (10mm) bolts holding the headlamp...

  • Power Consumption Comparison Between 921 LED Bulb and a 921 Incandescent Bulb
  • LED bulbs in general draw a much smaller percentage of power than incandescent bulbs so the Putco LED Bulb, # P340921W-360, will draw less power than the incandescent bulb, # 30-90-021. I do not have the specific amperage rating for each of these bulbs, but I can tell you that the typical 921 incandescent bulb draws approximately 1.4 amps and the typical 921 LED bulb draws only .4 amps. That should give you an idea of how they compare to each other.

  • Availability of a 921 LED Bulb that is Brighter than a 921 Incandescent Bulb
  • In the case of the 921 bulb style, you will not necessarily get a brighter light with an LED model like the Putco 921 LED Bulbs, # P340921W-360, that you mentioned. In my opinion the light from this light is whiter than the light from and incandescent bulb like the replacement 921 bulb, # 30-90-021, which has a more yellow tone to it. I feel that the incandescent bulb provides more light for working on close tasks and the LED light provides better overall light coverage. At this time...

  • Load Resistors Needed When Installing Aftermarket LED Bulbs In GMC Sierra To Prevent Hyperflashing
  • Per Putco, you would need 1 load resistor inline with the wiring harness feeding LED bulb for a turn signal. I believe your Sierra has two bulbs per side, one for the running lamp, one for the brake/turn signal. You only need to install Load Resistors on the circuits feeding the turn signals. I would recommend the Putco # P230004A-2 resistors. Their finned aluminum body will be very effective at shedding excess heat. I have provided a diagram showing how the resistors should be wired.

  • How Do You Replace Low Beam Lights on 2004 Mazda 6
  • I can relate to your problem, my car uses the same type of bulb and there is also very little room to get your hand in to change the headlight bulb. I did some research and found that other Mazda 6 owners run into the same problems. I found that to provide additional room there are a few things you can unbolt or remove temporarily. Before you begin, it is best to disconnect your negative battery terminal. Also, when replacing the bulbs, you will want to make sure to wear gloves as...

  • The Rampage LED Tailgate Light Bar # RA960134 that you referenced is intended to install in the gap between the tailgate and bumper on your Ram 1500 SLT using included automotive-grade pressure-sensitive tape. If your Ram is like the truck pictured in the linked photo (with the spare tire pulley access point on the right side of the bumper step) then this 60-inch light bar will block access to the spare. • Recommended H1 Headlight Bulb for a Projector Housing
  • Generally speaking, LED bulbs do not work well in a projector housing. This has to do with the direction the bulbs project the light. LED bulbs are more or less designed to be used in a reflective headlight housing. Therefore, the Silver-Lux Headlight Bulbs part # P3000H1 will be a good fit for your high-beam headlight but not for your low-beam headlights. For your low-beam headlights in a projector housing, I recommend using the Putco PURE High-Performance H1 Halogen Headlight Bulbs...

  • How to Hardwire Pilot Automotive Tailgate LED Light Strip into 2008 Chevy Silverado
  • Before removing the 4-pole connector from the LED Light Strip, you should label each wire (see photo). You would then tap each wire into the proper circuit. The wiring harness that feeds the tail light assemblies or the harness that feeds the trailer connector would be a good point to access the correct circuits. You might need to use a circuit tester like part # 40376 to determine which circuit serves which function. The loose white wire would tap into the reverse lamp circuit, which...

  • LED Taillights To Replace Existing 8-1/2 X 4-1/2 Incandescent Taillights
  • I have a solution for you, but unfortunately our trailer light manufacturers don't make an LED light that measures 8-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches. The best solution I have for you would be do buy the incandescent lights and swap the bulbs out with an LED bulb. To do this, you would want to use part # 30-92-003 for the left taillight, part # 30-92-001 for the right taillight, and part # AR50509 for the LED bulb to replace the incandescent.

  • Replacement 1157 LED Bulbs for a Travel Trailer
  • First, what a lot of people do not know about LED lights is that if you are using them behind a red lens then the LED bulb needs to be red as well. Otherwise you will end up with a dim pink light when using white LEDs. LED bulb # P241157R-360 is a pair of red LEDs so they would work well behind a red lens. When used as stop, tail, turn bulbs behind a red lens they are DOT compliant.
