Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is in your rear cargo area, on the driver's side. You will have to remove the floor covers, cargo trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, you will have to route the harness through the jack storage compartment to the center of your vehicle. Afterward, locate the fuse box under your hood and insert the provided fuses.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness Installation - 2019 Honda Pilot

Rob: Rob here etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the Tekonsha T1 vehicle wiring harness with a four pole flat trailer connector on our 2019 Honda Pilot. Now, our Tekonsha wiring is going to provide us with a four pole flat trailer connector, so we're going to have all the required lights to get down the road safely, like our turn signals, our taillights, and our brake lights. Now whether we're towing a trailer or we have an accessory that has lights on it, it's always an easier way to have a plug rather than trying to splice into your wiring, because they can be a little nerve-wracking for some customers, and for good reasons.I don't want to hack into my wiring and my vehicle either, but our Tekonsha wiring is going to be for the factory tow package, so we're just going to have this plugged inside the vehicle. It'll plug in. There's no cutting or splicing required. Since it is designed to stay on the outside of the vehicle, they're even going to include a grommet, so that we don't have to worry about drilling any holes or anything else.

You just go through an existing hole that's already there, but it will be plugged up when we're finished. One thing I do want to mention, it's not going to come with a mounting bracket. That is going to be sold separately, but you can find it here at etrailer.com, and I think it just gives it a nice clean overall finished look. But as far as the installation goes, like I said, there's no cutting or splicing required, very straightforward. The hardest part is really going to be getting inside and getting access to the plug, but we'll go ahead and show you an easy way you can verify that it is the correct flood and make sure everything's hooked up properly. Let's walk through the installation together. To begin our installation, we want to open up our rear hatch. We're going to come over to the driver's side, and we'll have a little compartment over here on the side.

We need to open this up, because our plug that we're going to be looking for is going to be on the driver's side behind this panel. Now if we can, we're going to open this up, reach inside and grab it. If not, we're going to have to loosen the panel so we can peel it back and get a little bit more room. You can take a flat blade screwdriver, put it in that notch right there. That panel should pop out and we can set it aside. Now, that plug is going to be in this general vicinity, so you might be able to reach in and if you can feel it, you can grab it and pull it down.

But if not, we're going to have to pull the panel down so we can get access. I can barely reach it and I can feel it, but just to make sure that it is the correct plug, we're going to go ahead and loosen this panel up.We'll lift up the floor covering here. Let's just move it out of the way. We want to come over to the side. We'll have a tie down hook right here, as well as one on the bottom.

The one on the top here just has a cover, this will be a little plastic cover on it, and there's a really small line that's going to separate the base from the cover. I'm going to get a flat blade screwdriver in there so we can pop it out.Behind there, we'll have a fastener that's holding it in place, so we'll grab an 8mm socket and pull it out. Once we have the screw removed, we can kind of lift upward a little bit and pull the plastic clip out. It may have a little bit of tension just because that round piece is going to be sitting inside. Then on the bottom tie down hook, it's going to work relatively the same. You want to flip open the actual hook itself and then get a flat blade screwdriver on the very edge. This cover should pop loose. That'll expose the Phillips screw that's behind there. Let's take a Phillips screwdriver and take that screw out. Then we can pull up our threshold. If you're having a little bit of trouble grabbing it, I suggest getting a plastic trim panel tool, that way we don't have to worry about scuffing up the panel. We'll come from the bottom, try to get a grip of it, and we'll lift up in a way, and just work our way across until we can get the whole panel out. We'll just set it aside for right now. Then we'll come to the side panel and we're going to do the same thing. We want to start probably towards the bottom would be the easiest. I'm going to use a trim panel tool to get underneath and behind the panel and then we're just going to start working my way up the sides to release the clips that are holding it in place. We don't need to pull the penal too far away, because this section on the bottom is going to be attached and we don't want to because any damage, so just far enough away to where we can see back there and get access to our plucks. Now, we can grab our wiring. We're going to have two plugs on it. One of them is going to have several wires coming out of it and the other one's going to be a little bit different style plug and it's only going to have one blue wire. If your Honda Pilot is equipped with the reverse backup sensors, your blue wire connector is going to plug in line with that. If not, we're not going to be using this plug. The main plug we're going to focus on is the one that has all the different color wires coming out of it.Peel back our panel. If we look inside, we have a white connector right next to this blue hose. This is the connector we want to use. Now, ours is not equipped with backup sensors, so we're not going to be using that blue wire. We'll just plug in our main harness here. Make sure we line up the connectors. Plug it in and listen for that click. We'll give it a quick tug to make sure it's locked in place. We're going to want to feed all of this into that compartment, but so we can still get access in this opening right here. Just push all of our wiring back to where it goes towards that opening. We can always pull all the slack in once we have some of it in there. Now we have our wiring plugged in and we should have the rest of the harness coming through that opening right here. That'll give us better access and we can find a spot to mount our converter box, as well as ground at our system.I'm going to go ahead and remove this panel right here. That will give us access underneath this compartment. Just pull it out, set it aside, and you can see that if I reach my hand up, I can get all the way from the bottom into that compartment. What I'm going to do is I'm going to take all my wiring and feed it through the heating, the converter box, and everything else, because right in this back corner is a really good spot to put everything out of the way and we know it's not going to interfere with our panels because it's a big open spot right there. Now we have our ground wire. Again, in that corner back here would be a really good spot to put it because we don't have to worry about anything interfering and I know that there's no wiring back here and we have a nice solid at least two layers of metal for our self tapping screw to grab into. I'm going to take the included self tapping screw. I'll start a pilot hole so I can get the screw started and then I'll secure my wire. Now, on that compartment, if we look right where my screwdrivers pointing, there's going to be a rubber or plastic plug that's going directly into the floor. That's what we're going to use to get our wiring to the outside, because you're wiring should have a built-in grommet in it, and that's going to replace the plug that's in the floor. We'll take a flat blade screwdriver, we'll pop out the plug. We want to grab the end of our wiring. We're going to pass it down through and pull all the slack down until we can get this grommet to seat in there nice and flush. It's a little bit of a tight fit, but there's plenty of room to get the plugs through. You might just have to move to just cover a little bit to get it through. When you go to feed your grommet, it'll definitely help if you reach underneath of your Pilot and kind of pull on the outer section while you're pushing down on the grommet to help seat it. That'll make sure we're not going to get any kind of leaks or moisture or even exhaustion coming back into our Pilot. Now, I'm going to take the double sided tape, put it on the back of my box and secured to something flat. Now, you can take a zip tie. There's an eyelet at the top, so want to make sure that the converter boxes isn't going to be moving around, causing any kind of noise or anything else. The double sided tape, we'll just take on side off the backing, stick it to the box, take the other side off, and I'm going to stick it directly to the back of the bumper here, right behind this panel, so I know won't be in the way of my other penal going back in place and it shouldn't be making any kind of noise because it's securely stuck there and there's nothing else around it.With everything hooked up out, we're going to move underneath our hood, put some fuses in place so we can test our system before we put everything back together. We'll open up our fuse box. You just want to push in on all three of these tabs, lift up, and on the bottom here they'll have a legend which each one of your fuses and relays is going to do. But in our kit, they're going to provide us with a large 30 amp fuse. If we look at our fuse box, it's going to go at the very end here at this row of fuses. We'll put it in, make sure it's seated all the way, and we can look at our legend here. It's number two and that's going to be your trailer main fuse. We're also going to have a couple more fuses we're going to have to put in. The one right next to our 30 amp fuse is going to be our trailer electric brake and we want to put in a 20 amp fuse. Put our fuse in right there. We'll have one last fuse we're going to need to put in, and if we look at our legend here, it'll be spot number 11, and it's going to be trailer charge. Its going to be the very end one right past that 10 amp fuse. We'll put our last years in there. We're going to replace the cover. Now, I'm going to go ahead and test it to make sure everything's working properly.I went ahead and hooked up my four pole tester. If you need one, you can pick one up here etrailer.com, but you can also use your trailer to make sure your lights are working as well. By turning on my tail lights, we can see that my taillight function is working, as well as the left turn signal, my right turn signal, my brakes, and my brakes and both turn signals. Now we can take some time to put all the panels back, clean up any wires, and tie up any excess. When you're done putting all your panels back, we're going to clearly have to clean up or route or four for where we want to store it. Now, you have the option of using the dust cover to wrap it around and hook it to the hitch, but in our application we have a no drill bracket already mounted, and we're going to be using them for four mounting brackets so we have a nice clean look and are wiring will be ready for us wherever we wanted. Now, these are going to be really easy to install. It's going to have included hardware to come with it, so we'll just drop it down through our existing bracket. Wind up the hardware and we'll secure it down with some locking nuts. We'll just take our four pole. You notice it's got these little notches on there. You just need to get those passed the front of the bracket. We'll come from the back, kind of pushed it in, work its weight into the socket. Now when we go to pull your trailer in, that pressure is going to hold it in place. Now we just see a tie up our excess behind the bumper here, so don't have to worry about it dragging. But once you have all your wires tied up, that'll finish up your installation and your look at the Tekonsha T1 vehicle wiring harness with a four pole flat trailer connector on our 2019 Honda Pilot.

The trailer wiring harness installation took 20 minutes and went great due to the excellent video instructions. I only needed to remove the 2 access panels since I knew where to reach in blindly to find the Honda plug in. The trailer hitch installation took longer only because of how heavy it is. I did it solo and used wooden blocks to help support the weight. I did not need to lower the spare tire or move the exhaust pipe as others recommended. I zip tied the wire connector to the hitch receiver. The shipping box was pretty beat up upon arrival and the matte powder coating was scuffed off on an area that is hidden under the vehicle. Overall I am very pleased with the quality, the look, and the price. 763892

Delivery was fast. Installation was straight forward with the aid of the available video from etrailer. For a 2016 Honda Pilot you will require 2 20 amp fuses to install in the engine firewall fuse box which you have to purchase separately in addition to the 30 amp fuse that comes with the kit. I found out about the 2 20 amp fuses by reviewing the Honda harness installation manual. Wish they would have included this in the harness manual provided. If they did it would have saved some time and I would have rated it 5 stars. 554973

Wiring harness works just as advertised and installation is a breeze. However, the instructions failed to note the need to install 2 additional 20a fuses (not provided) for the unit to work. The one fuse they did provide and instructed to install only provides power to a wire that is not connected so it's virtually useless when installing the 4 pin flat trailer connector. The eTrailer tech was VERY helpful in identifying the issue after I did a bit of troubleshooting and sent them a photo of my configuration. Would like to see them include a flyer with all 2017 Pilot harnesses the sell alerting the customer of the need for these 2 additional fuses. The installation instructions that came packaged with the harness did not mention these fuses but the same instruction on the web site does so there was some confusion and took a couple of days exchanging emails to finally figure out the problem. I'm very satisfied with the product and the help eTrailer staff provided. 542731

Product Great BUT would not power up....found I needed an additional fuse not mentioned in instructions or video. I have a 2018 Honda Pilot....blue wire on Honda which mates to fused black/orange wire on module had no power and therefore no power at the 4 pin connector. After spending a couple of hours trying to trouble shoot, I fortunately found another review with same problem which advised to install a 20 amp in trailer charge slot in fuse box in engine compartment. Now working perfectly. An additional 20 amp fuse in package would be helpful, along with correcting the video and written instructions. 557601

This is a well made product and etrailer has always met my needs. I found that the etrailer installation video was better at showing the "how to" then Tekonsha"s supplied instructions. The pictures in their instructions are very dark and it is hard to see the vehicle features. The installation went well and as described but I found that after installing the grommet in the floor there was ample length of harness outside the vehicle but the harness inside was taught and the ground wire wouldn't reach the recommended screw and I couldn't secure the Modulite or have a view of the inline fuse. But I was able to pull some of the excess wires up thru the grommet to allow more slack inside the vehicle. Then I was able to complete the installation as shown in the video. However, when testing the system I found that nothing worked. I had seen a recent review on etrailer describing this same issue so I installed a 20 amp fuse in the TRL. CHARGE slot in the under hood box and the system works fine. This was in addition to the 30 amp fuse supplied in the kit. It is a bit concerning that only a couple of us have encountered this issue. Hopefully that is the only issue I will have with this product. 508108

I ordered this product for my 2017 Honda Pilot and wasn't really sure if it was going fit and work. This connection was said that my Pilot needed to have the manufactured towing package. I was not sure if it did. Well, after installation along with C-57672 4- way to 7- way RV and 4-way Flat adapter, it work just fine. The instructions were so easy to follow. I plugged it on to my boat trailer and it worked great. It was shipped 2 days earlier than it said it would. All parts were there and in good condition. Thank you Carol for your help. And thank you etrailer staff. I highly recommend ordering parts from etrailer. 651662

Installation was a lot harder than I expected. I have a 2019 Pilot EX-L. I had to remove more panels than the instructions said. It shows the plug right behind the panel, but you need to remove the whole side panel to get at the plug. After a call to Etrailer and talking to Robert I was able to finish the job. He sent me the installation video to a 2017 Pilot which showed how to remove panels to get at plug. Thank you Robert S. 636485

This was one of the easiest hitch to install that I've every seen. The hardest part of the job was pulling the stapes of the box so I could recycle it. The wire harness was a piece of cake. the hardest part was pulling the rubber gromet in the factory hole. I did find the Jack for the truck.( this is a brand Honda Pilot) I had to remove it so my big hands could connect the wire Harness. Would I buy another Hitch and wire Harness from etrailer.com. Yes I would. I ordered it on Thrusday got it on Monday. Installed Monday evening before we eat dinner. 616173

Everything arrived ahead of time and in great condition. I installed hitch in less than an hour by myself. Haven’t hooked up wiring yet but expect no problems. I wish I would have known that I needed a 4pole mounting bracket but I ordered it separately and had to pay shipping. My hitch looks just like the pictures advertised. Placed my order on Sunday, shipped on Tuesday, received on Friday. Box took a beating, but that is to be expected shipping iron. No damage to contents which included the wiring harness. Installation videos are a must. If you install the hitch alone as I did, save yourself some grief and drop the tire and get it out of the way. Twenty-four inch tie wraps will hold the hitch up until you get a few bolts started. 796272

  • Installation of Trailer Wiring on 2019 Honda Pilot
Installing the trailer wiring on your 2019 Honda Pilot is a pretty straightforward process; if you can install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75225 on your Pilot I'm very confident you can also install the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118760. To install this harness you simply need to open the tailgate and then open the access panel in the storage compartment on the driver's side and insert the connector into the tow plug harness. You will then ground the white wire by drilling a small...

  • 2016 Honda Pilot Back-Up Sensor Plug for Installation of Wiring Harness
I don't have any advice, exactly, but the back-up sensor plug that mates with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118760 on your 2016 Honda Pilot should be directly next to the plug for the main harness. Occasionally this can be pretty difficult to find and it could be jammed back pretty far or possibly taped to the side so the best I can offer is to keep digging and you should be able to find it assuming you have these accessory sensors on your Pilot.
