Today, we're going to take a look at the upgraded circuit protected taillight converter hardwire kit with the four-way connector and the circuit tester. Now, this part will adapt a three-wire system on your towing vehicle to work with a two-wire system on your trailer. Basically, they will adapt any importer domestic automobile that has the separate turn and stop lights, which is a three-wire system to a standard trailer taillight wiring which is a two-wire system. In a three-wire system, a separate wire is used to carry each of the stop, turn, and running light functions to the taillight. And on most trailers, the stop and turn signal functions are sent through the same wire.This kit will give you short circuit protection, safeguards itself and the tow vehicle against any harmful electrical shorts or miss-wire situations. The circuit will automatically reset once the module cools, and it does work with trailers that have either LED or incandescent bulbs and it will work with most multiplex wiring system.
The kit will include everything laid out here on the table, the circuit protective taillight converter right here. If you notice, it does have the bonded wire with the four-way that runs out the back to plug into your trailer and that's about 60 inches long. It does have this nice integrated four-way cover that will protect the terminals when it's not plugged in, protects it from the elements or from any damage.Now the wire pigtails on this converter, they would measure about 18 inches long. And these are what will tap into the taillight wires of your vehicle. And they do include in this kit a nice circuit tester because when you go to tap your wires in, you want to test the wires for the function.
You don't want to always just connect color to color, you want to test the function and then connect it to the function for that wire. In this case, your white wire will be your ground that has the eyelid on it, so that's easy. You just ground it. Your ground wire would be your taillight, so that's where you'll connect to your taillights. Your red wire is your brake for your brake, but if it's a two-wire system, then you just ground the red wire.
The yellow is the left turn and the green would be your right turn.When you do to go to connect these, use your circuit tester to test the function to get the correct wires hooked up. And they do include these four waterproof self-stripping wire connectors that will make tapping into your wires very quick and easy. A few specs on this, the maximum stop and turn light circuit is 2.1 amps per circuit, and the maximum taillight circuit is 7.5 amps. But that should do it for the review on the upgraded circuit protected taillight converter hardwire kit with the four-way connector and the circuit tester.

Wiring does what it’s supposed to, but most of the wires are relatively short, especially the green wire, making installation tricky. Also, the blue connectors aren’t great. Since the wires are only just long enough, it’s impossible to use these t-connectors. I ended up soldering the wires. 612504

The hitch it self was excellent and the service was real good. The wiring kit came with no directions. The stuff online for it was not that good. It all did work out well but it took time and the weather was not nice. It should have said universal wiring and I would not cared. Next time I'll be more careful. I just installed my trailer wiring harness I purchased from etrailer.com For the do it yourselfer that can trace and figure out which wires are needed to splice into, it is a very good kit. I chose to solder my connections instead of using the supplied crimp connectors. I've seen these connectors corrode after a few years and then you have to eliminate it and fix the connection. Also, I chose to attach the converter to the frame with a heavy duty tie strap instead of using the adhesive pad that is attache to it. The only other thing I might suggest is a self drilling screw to attacht the ground wire. Having said all that, I would highly recommend this Kit. It saved me between $400 and $900 dollars according to the horror stories I've read online. You Guys need to get this product out there, maybe go to some Dodge forums. Good Job. 65616
Installation went Just about as I expected. Working alone it took me about 1 1/2 hours, not counting the wiring harness ( 62 year old guy). I installed one of your hitches several years ago so I knew about what to do. The video was a big help. The only tools needed were a ratchet, screw driver,ramps,and a can of WD40. I left one of the 3 rubber exhaust supports (hangers) in place. It gave some support to the muffler so the pipe wouldn't bend, but everything dropped down low enough slide the hitch into place. 2007 Kia Sportage w/ single exhaust. 214621

The new hitch arrived today, everything was in the box that I ordered. Very Very nice product. I must admit I was kind of expecting a cheap looking hitch. But this is first class stuff. I'll be using it on my Yaris shortly. Rather than spend a bunch of money on a pickup truck. A 4 x 8 trailer will be hauling my home repair products from now on. Also, I will be coming back to "etrailer" for a bike rack to fit the new hitch. I highly recommend "etrailer", with the on-line assistance and very nice products. You can't beat the price either. The local uhaul wanted double the money I spent at "etrailer" to install the hitch and wire it. It took me 25 minutes to install the hitch and about an hour to wire it. I needed a hard-to-find hitch for my '98 Montero, overnight, no less. I ordered this part along with a harness from etrailer with overnight shipping. I don't live at the end of the world, but you can see it from here, so I wasn't optimistic about everything arriving on time for my trip. Shortly after the order was placed I received emails from etrailer's staff indicating the part wasn't at their main warehouse and would have to be sourced from another. They updated me throughout the day and the following morning. The parts arrived early afternoon. Installation took little time at all with their helpful wiring harness install video. The installation instructions are linked above, but because this is not a vehicle specific wiring harness, the instructions are very general in nature. Youll need to access the taillight wiring harnesses in the trunk area and use the included circuit tester to identify which wire carries which taillight function. The red wire connects to the brake lamp circuit, the green wire to the right turn signal, the yellow to the left turn, the brown to the running lights and the white wire grounds to the vehicle. There are video links above in the product description, but none of the videos are specific to your vehicle, the wire colors in the vehicle itself will likely be colored differently, so you cant depend on the wire color. This being said, they do show the method used to identify which circuit carries which function, so in that respect youll likely find them helpful.
--The 2 stars are for the lack of ANY correct instructions ( none were in the package, so i relied on the videos published by etrailer) for my 2006 Toyota Avalon . Once i determined the proper hookup the unit itself seems fine . The closest instruction i could find was the video for the 2007 Toyota Avalon . i used it for the instructions. Turns out, it is not correct for the 2006. After several hours of volt and ohm meter readings and swapping cars to verify that my trailer harness wiring was OK , i noticed that the low side of the bulbs for the rear lights were not attached anywhere to a car chassis ground. Then i determined that the white ground wire and lug( car side wiring of the unit) for the 119178 was NOT to be attached to the car chassis ground but to a low side wire in the wiring harness( black and white). Everything worked fine with that correction. I also found the note attached to the red wire confusing as it had different attachment instructions that depended on whether one was using a 2 wire or 3 wire system. Again no description to help me tell what system i had( 3 wire). Instructions and or a schematic would have raised my evaluation to 4 stars( 5 stars being reserved for longtime reliability). 315613
Fast shipping. Product as advertised. Installation was a snap. I did not use the snap on wire connects I soldered the wires. After making connections all the lights on the trailer worked with the exception of tail lights. Being experienced in trailer lighting I checked the ground first. How can all functions on both lights except tail lights work and their be a ground issue. Tail lights share a connection. I think a lot of the issues in poor reviews are probably due to ground issues on the trailer. When troubleshooting trailer issues always start at the ground that's where I have found the problem to be most of the time a bad ground can make the lights do crazy things. As for how the converter holds up only time will tell. 722342

Only things I recommend is installation instructions for wiring kit and better quality scotch lock connectors. Easily installed in my Hyundai Elantra hatchback. The tester is paramount to this device. After installing make sure you test the actual hitch connector to make sure everything is working before you put all the car back together. My running lights did not have a solid connection, but luckily the kit came with an extra quick splicer, so it was easily slipped in. Everything appears to be working good.
