Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

CE Smith hub assembly bearings were delivered in their individual plastic boxes and already greased and assembled. James and Kate were excellent to work with through the whole process.

Ordered from etrailer a few times. Not sure there is anything trailer related they dont have, pricing is generally the cheapest you'll find and customer service is top notch! Not many companies impress me these days but you guys are on it! Keep it up.

by:

Nice product good price comes in a nice plastic box to take with you on the road for road side service if needed. or refurbish your old hub and keep it as a spare to travel with in the plastic case.

by:

so far it looks good tomorrow I mount wheels and tires and take trailer for a ride!

by:

This item has been sold as part of a unit item to a customer. As far as we know there have not been any issues. The customer has not been in contact with us concerning this item.

by:

Good quality replacement hub for my trailer. Easy to install.

by:

I called twice the first time I got Angela M. She was awesome and very helpful. Second time I ordered some leaf springs and when I finished the order I noticed I only had one spring. I then talked to Alex J. He was awesome too! He was able to cancel the order and place a new order correctly. I will definitely order parts again! give them both a raise!! Thank you Mike H.

by:

Easy install and OEM replacement. Ready to go. I replaced four of their and they have been great for several hundred miles.

Second time purchasing. Great and love the carrying case to keep spare in truck. Hauling single axle salt water boat trailer long distances so always keep a spare.

by:

It worked great...on a difficulty scale of 1-10, with 10 being the hardest, this was a 2.

by:

No issues so far, great value.

by:

Great customer service. Nicole got me everything I needed.very pleased definitely recommend and will be using again for my next project on the trailer. Leaf springs.

by:

Thick metal and heavy galvanizing. Casting of the hub steel came out wrong on one of them, the spindle would be rotating on an angle and wearing out the bearings. Noticed right away that the races weren’t centered. etrailer sent a replacement right away!

by:

As always it's been a pleasure ordering from ETrailer! Everything arrived very quickly, in perfect shape/wrapped good, and was an exact fit.

I used it to replace my boat trailers 40 year old hubs. These hubs paired well with the stainless steel bearing buddys

by:

Quality product. Having a pre-greased hub makes installation easy. The help that Etrailer provides for its customers (videos, expert answers to questions, and excellent product descriptions) keeps me coming back to Etrailer when I need trailer parts.

by:

Customer Service was very helpful and everything went very well. Adam did a great job!

Sorry to hear about this. I see in your account that we have already shipped out a replacement.

by:

Love the quality and zirc fittings on rear of hub

by:

I am sure this is an OK product, but when a product says Made in USA, the customer should expect the product to be Made 100% in the USA. The CE Smith sticker on the box states Made In China. The bearings inside this hub state CHINA. I can find nothing but websites that state this is Made in the USA. The better statement could be assembled proudly in the USA using parts from China.

The hub is made in the USA, but other components, like the bearings, are sourced globally.

by:

ordered hub kits for my boat trailer and products installed and worked as intended. Only problem was kits were not in stock and had to be ordered so that's reason for 4 stars but no worries I wasn't in a big rush. Good thing is etrailer kept me updated with emails and packages arrived when they said they would.

by:

The parts were shipped quickly and packaged well. There were no instructions included with the package and when I assembled all of the parts I did not realize that the inner and outer bearing races were already pressed into place in the hub that I bought. I attempted to install the bearings in the new wheel hub and when I went to put it on the trailer it would not fit. I kept thinking I was doing something wrong and ended up ruining two grease seals before I figured out that the bearing race was already pressed into place and was not needed. That is entirely my error ( I am not a mechanic…) but it would’ve been nice if it was indicated somehow that the bearing race is already installed in the hubs I bought from etrailer and that the ones that shipped with the hub package are extras for another application.

by:

Hubs fit perfectly, and the staff at etrailer were very helpful.

  • Proper Wheel Lug Nut Torque For a CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # CE13515 with 15" Wheels
For mounting a 15" wheel on the CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # CE13515 you will want to torque the wheel nuts to either 90-120ft-lbs on a steel wheel or 90-100ft-lbs on an aluminum wheel. I have included our a wheel torque chart below as well.

  • What is a #84 Spindle and How Do I Know I Have One On My Trailer?
The #84 spindle is just a common way to identify the spindle dimensions typically used for 3,500 lb axles. So instead of listing out the parts, people can just say they have #84 spindles and it's easier to know what fits it. The CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # CE13515 uses the following parts: Inner bearing: L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) Outer bearing: L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) Grease Seal: 58846 (1.719" inner diameter and 2.565" outer diameter) As long as this matches what...

  • Are There Bearing Buddy Bearing Protector Grease Caps Compatible with Harbor Freight Utility Trailer
Harbor Freight trailers are unique. They don't have any industry standard parts on them, so replacement parts are very difficult to find. We don't have any grease caps that will fit your 2-inch hub. It may be possible to replace your hubs with a different one that will fit your spindle measurements, but you'd need to use a digital caliper to check the spindle at the bearing locations and the grease seal.

  • Spare Hub for Boat Trailer with Bearing Dimensions of 1-3/8 inch and 1-1/16 inch
Based on your bearing dimensions you do have a 3,500 lb axle. The CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly w/ Case for 3.5K Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized - Pre-Greased # CE13515 that you referenced would be a really great option as it has the correct wheel bolt pattern as well as comes pre-greased, comes with a carrying case, and is galvanized to help fight corrosion which is really important for boat trailers like yours.

  • What Type of Grease is Recommended with CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # CE13515
LMX red grease like the # L11390 is what the CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # CE13515 typically comes with and is the best all-around grease for trailer hubs so it's what I recommend. This will also be compatible with non-red grease if you were to find that your hub didn't have that color.

  • Availability Of Pre-Greased and Assembled 3500lb Idler Hub with 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern
I have another option for you, but we do not offer the Trailer Hub for 3,500-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 # 84545BX you were looking at pre-greased and assembled. The reason for this is the pre-greased and assembled hubs come that way from the manufacturer and that is not something Dexter offers. Instead I recommend the CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly w/ Case for 3.5K Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized - Pre-Greased # CE13515 which is the exact same hub as the Dexter option, but comes pre-greased...
