Video Transcript for Review of ABS Fasteners 1-3/4 Castle Nut Cotter Pin - 165649

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this one eighth of an inch cotter pin. This is going to help to secure your castle nut, so that you don't have to worry about that castle nut coming off. So each arm of this pin is about one sixteenth of an inch, so when you have them combined there, it is gonna be one eighth of an inch. As far as our length goes, our overall measurement, we're looking at right two and a quarter of an inch there. Our usable length from the inside of that bend to the shorter arm, is going to be right at, call it one and three quarters of an inch.

So this is going to be made of a rough steel construction so it should do a really good job for you making sure that castle nut stays in place so that you don't have to worry about that coming off. So if you are needing a replacement one eighth inch thick cotter pin, this is going to do a great job for you. You are just gonna get the one pin with this part number so if you need multiple, obviously just increase your quantity. So that's gonna complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com, thanks for watching..

Just repacked bearings with new seals on my 4' x 8' folding utility trailer. Customer service was great in helping me with selecting the right parts including cotter pins. All is good now. I have been ordering from etrailer for 10 + years. Great place with great people!

Easy pleasey but not Japanese. Perfect fit. About as easy as it gets. As a complete kit I would suggest adding the cotter pins and quality wire connectors.

I’m glad I enquired about these Cotter Pins for the Castle Nut on my axles. These were do much stronger looking than what I had on work bench. I’ll keep replacing the Cotter Pins with these.

The parts were delivered in timely manner, but found one box damaged during shipping and was missing some hardware.Called the co and had a great response and was taken care right away. The only other issue was I sent an email to get more info on a part I was ordering and waited over a day for the answer. I would order again from etrailer

my days of straightening and trying to use old cotter pins is no longer part of my repertoire. It's not safe, and if one fails, you'll be out hundreds or thousands of dollars. Do yourself a favor and just order some of these from etrailer to have on hand. Great product and an even greater vendor. Thanks etrailer

The best cotter pin ever! Shiny and new. It bent easily and didn’t shy away from a little grease. Seriously, it was a cotter pin, it worked.

These worked in a pinch though I has access to a supply of those.

It's a cotter pin. What's there to tell. Was appropriate size and length. Bent well, didn't break.

What canyou say about a cotter pin except it took a long time to get here.

Once again a job well done, all parts were correct that the tech recommended when I explained what I was doing. After I ordered the parts came sooner than I expected. Great instructional videos if you need them.

1 small issue ..recommend putting small parts in a (baggie) ,cotter pins ,little boots ,ect then into box ..that little baggie may prevent another expense, & unhappy cust if small parts feel out through the box ...would diff buy again..capt bill new jersey !..

Cotter pins, they are what they are. These are the right size and impossible to find in my neck of the woods. I like that they are just the right size since most stores go from 1-1/2" long straight up to 2" long. I could not find 1-3/4" long cotter pins anywhere. etrailer has them for low enough price that I stocked up so that I always have enough on hand.

Comments
Cotter pins have held up fine they are the exact right size and they are still in great shape when I repacked bearings the following year.

What more can I say. It's a cotter pin. Well made. Serves its purpose. Shipping was quick considering that it came here to Canada. Excellent service from staff at etrailer. My only regret is the rather large exchange rate between $US and $CAN. If it weren't for that, I'd be purchasing a lot more from etrailer. Thanks

Once again, I am so pleased with etrailer. I have purchased quite a lot in the last 6 years including wheels, tires, accessories. This most recent one is for a full set of electric brakes for my 27 foot RV trailer. Drums, shoes, magnets. etrailer does a thorough job of detailing the parts, model numbers, etc. If you pay attention to their instructions when ordering you will have no problem. Items arrive quickly and in good packaging. They are very good with follow up but I have not needed corrective action on any orders. The instructions that arrived with the items are important. Read them. Notably after you install these electric brakes (Dexter refits) you need to burn them in gently. At first the friction between the magnets, drum and shoes will be slight. A dozen controlled braking exercises and the braking performance will be excellent. Thanks again.

  • Can I Use the Dexter Cotter Pin on a Lippert Axle
The Cotter Pin # 165649 can be used on a Lippert axle, so as long as you're replacing a cotter pin with a 1/8" diameter and 1-3/4" of usable space, this will work just fine for you. If your pin has different dimensions, just let me know what you're looking for and I can help you locate a replacement.

It looks like you might be asking about a few different torque specs so I'll address all of them separately. For a trailer axle spindle nut like part # 165686 you will need to run the spindle nut down until there is no more side-to-side play in the hub and then back it off to the next notch so you can secure the cotter pin, like part # 165649, through the spindle. When it comes to hanger bolts like the Redline # 166081 there isn't a specific torque rating either as you just need to...

  • How to Remove a Hub From a Trailer Spindle
To remove a hub from an axle, you will need to first remove the grease cap on the end of the hub. This will expose the end of the spindle. Once at this point, you will need to see if you have an EZ-Lube spindle, like # TRU77FR, or a standard spindle, like # TRU57FR. If you have the standard spindle, there will be a castle nut threaded onto the end of said spindle that is locking a fairly large washer in place. I was unable to find an order number so I'm not certain exactly what you are referring to, but in general a flat washer such as Washer For 1" Spindle # SW1000 will go between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on, which essentially works to protect the bearing. These washers are used on spindles with a spindle nut such as Spindle Nut 1" # 165686 and Cotter Pin # 165649.

  • What is the Torque Rating for an Equalizer Bolt
Equalizer bolts, like the TruRyde Wet Equalizer Bolt, # TRFA71063, should be torqued to yield. Equalizer bolts are not given a specific torque rating because they should allow some movement of the equalizer. If they are torqued down too tight, the equalizer will have difficulty moving and that could bind up your trailers suspension. Simply tighten the bolts down until they are tight, but still allow the equalizer to move. Keep in mind, the cotter pin is not included with this bolt....
