Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for CE Smith Trailer Hubs and Drums CE13215 Review

Today we're taking a look at the C.E. Smith Trailer Idler Hub with Case. This marine grade trailer hub assembly fits idler axles. It includes your bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap, lug nuts and cotter pin. This right here is the hub assembly. You can see that it's pre-greased idler hub.

It's easy to install. There's no need to pack your bearings. It's already done. So, it's lubricated with heavy duty grease for marine applications. We're looking at a nice, sturdy iron construction, with a galvanized finish, offer excellent corrosion resistance. We also have a nice zinc plating on the lug nuts and the cotter pin and the grease cap to help limit corrosion. It does come with the carrying case, latches closed.

It's got a nice handle on here. Keeps all the parts in one place, makes it easy to stow on your trailer in case of an emergency. The product is made in the USA. It does have a grease inaudible 00:00:59 there so we can easily add grease whenever we need to. Again, cotter pins included.

Grease caps included. Studs are already pressed in and then lug nuts are included. This is designed for 2,500 pound axles with DT-8 spindles, wheel sizes eight inches to 12 inches. Bolt pattern is five on four and a half inches. Wheel studs are a half inch diameter by one and seven-eighths inches long. The grease cap flange diameter is one point nine eight inches.

The hub flange diameter is five and nine-sixteenths inches and the weight capacity for a single hub is 1,250 pounds. Now when it comes to the bearing, race and seal information, inner and outer bearings are the same. Those are L44643 bearings with a one inch inner diameter. The inner and outer races are the same. That's L44610 when it comes to the race number. And then the grease seal is a 34823 seal with an inner diameter of one point two four nine inches and an outer diameter of one point nine eight three inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the C.E. Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly with Carrying Case.

Install went well, product seems to be of good quality. Not enough miles to give any feedback of how long it lasts

by:

Arrived with a 1 1/4" grease seal instead of the correct 1 1/2". Sent me the correct grease seal, but not the tool necessary to change them out. I had to do the work myself in addition to 14.00 for the tool. Glad I did because the bearings were NOT packed with grease, just a blob on the outside. I thought I read they were made in US. They are not. Made in China.

Quality parts and a perfect fit

by:

First of all - the information on your web site made everything possible.
Second: I could have just as easily laid out the cash and had the local marine shop take care of it; however, since the trailer belonged to my daughter, I decided to make this a father/daughter repair. Although she is a practicing RN with very little mechanical proclivity, she is a quick study and together with your web site information, we accomplished the task in less than an hour.
Thank you etrailer.

Product looks solid. Went on as planned. Be aware that this does not include the washer that goes between the outer bearing and the spindle nut. I assumed it did. Product description is not clear that this isn't included. I assumed it was. I used the washer from the old hubs I was replacing so no problem.

  • Replacement Hub for EZ Loader Trailer with Knott Axle
I do have some options for you but we can't really reference any of these numbers. The best way to determine the correct replacement hub/drum would be with the bearing number and you can either pull apart the hubs and looks for these numbers on the bearings or measure them. If the axle is rated under 3,500 lbs then odds are it uses L44643 bearings which measure 1" diameter. In which case you could use the CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part # CE13215 which has a 5-lug design. I have...

  • Replacement Hub for 2022 ShoreLandr Boat Trailer
Thank you for providing that information. According to ShoreLandr your current hub uses # L44649 inner and outer bearings. That means you can use the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles - 13" to 15" Wheels - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKIHUB-545-2-LF-2K. However, it does look like they use a different seal with an inner diameter of 1.063". I recommend measuring your current grease seal to verify this information. If that is the case, you can still use this hub but you will need to...

  • How To Find Replacement Hubs for Triton LT PWC Trailer
In order to find the correct hubs/drums for a trailer you'll need to know either the axle capacity, bearings numbers, or spindle dimensions. We can't look any of this up for any one particular trailer as there is simply no database of this info for trailers. The easiest option is to simply crawl under the trailer and read the tag off the beam. It's likely a small axle, such as a 2,200 lb for example and in which case you could use the Trailer Hub Assembly part # 8-258-50UC1-EZ. If you...

While there is a similar option for you, the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # AKIHUB-545-2-G-1K is only for 10" to 12" wheels. For an option that will work with 8" wheels, uses the same L44643 bearings, and is galvanized, what you need is the following: - CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly w/ Case for 2.5K Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized - Pre-Greased # CE13215 The # CE13215 says it is for 2,500 lb axles, but fits the exact same spindle as the...

What you have there is a Knott axle with Knott hubs. The bearings in these hubs are sealed so you won't be able to grease your bearings. If you need to replace the sealed bearings or removed that flange nut you will have to get the replacement parts from the manufacturer. While you are off to a good start with the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, there's a few other things you'll need to find in order to determine the correct replacement hubs for your boat trailer (I was unable to find info regarding a B-168-G trailer).
