Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com, and today we're gonna take a real quick look at this washer for your one-inch spindle. This replacement washer is designed for use with one inch in diameter spindles. And on your screen, I am putting up a diagram that I think will prove helpful for you, in case there we're some other minute measurements that you we're needing. You can also find this diagram on this product page if you need to refer back to it. But if you are in need of a washer for your one-inch spindle, this is going to be what you need if it meets those other specifications that you are looking for. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today.

Worked out perfectly, this trailer didn't have these washers on the axle so castle nut was to low for the cotter pin to engage

Appreciate the prompt service but I guess I messed up on my order. I got two bearings that were the same size. My hub has a bigger inner bearing and seal.

You will need to know both the inner and outer bearing numbers. These numbers can be found stamped on the bearings themselves or you can use a digital caliper such as item # PTW80157 to measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch at the seal, inner bearing and outer bearing.

I ordered more than a spindle washer, and the shipping fees and quick service is much appreciated. when I replaced the bearings on my trailer wheels, I inadvertently put the spindles in the wheel backwards. (Dummy...LOL) Thus, I needed new grease seals and as long as I was doing it right decided to put new washers and cotter pins in as well.

Haven't installed the brake magnet yet but looks to be an exact match to the old one. As for the seals I ordered, I learned not to trust my owners manual. It listed a part number to get for seal replacement so I ordered them and etrailer delivered them very efficiently only to find out the i.d. was not a fit. I should have checked the dimensions before ordering. I have found other discrepancies in my Aliner manual so it's not to be relied on. Thanks for fast service, etrailer.

I ordered these washers from a Highly Trusted Company and from previous experience in ordering other items from them. Solid washer, 1/8" thickness. I used as roller washers. They are a little less outside diameter than designated "roller washers", but I needed the 1" inside diameter which ETrailer didn't have in a roller washer. These actually fit my roller BETTER because of the slightly smaller outside diameter and have more than enough coverage against the hog rings.

While rebuilding the axle I found I only had one washer/spacer. Went looking and found lots around but upwards of $8 each + shipping. By far etrailer.com was the cheapest, I will definitely order from them again !!

I bought these because on my original hubs, there was no washer behind the castle nut. But I didn't end up using them, because when I added them, there wasn't room to get the cotter pin through the hole. I read several comments saying you must have a washer under the castle nut, so I was worried about this. But then I read several other comments in which people said their 2000 lb. axle hubs came pre-assembled with no washers, it's just the way some of them are designed, and there isn't any room to add one.

4 Bolt Hub and Spindle Nut for a CE Smith 2k Trailer Axle
JC, the CE Smith Trailer Axle Beam with Standard Spindles # CE33201GA definitely should've came with spindle nuts so I'd reach out to our customer service team about that. This axle uses the Trailer Spindle Nut 1" # 165686 with the Washer For 1" Spindle # SW1000 and the Cotter Pin # 165649. For 4-bolt hubs, you'd just want the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles # AKIHUB-440-2-G-EZ-2K.

Washers Compatible With 7/8 Inch Castle Nut
For castle nut # 165931, for a D washer use part # 5-23 or round washer use part # SW1000. These are both for 1 inch spindles but are compatible with the 7/8 inch castle nut assemblies. You can also use the Replacement Spindle Washer - Tang Type for E-Z Lube # 5-101.

Is A Spindle Washer Needed To Go Between The Outer Bearing And Castle Nut
Hey Mike, The washer is there to place even pressure on the bearing so that it doesn't bind and build heat. Since it butts up to the end of the outer bearing it will help protect it from any burrs on the back of the castle nut and help hold the grease in. I would put a new washer # SW1000 in and see if you can get the hub pressed onto the spindle enough to get the cotter pin # 165649 through the spindle. If I Will Be Regularly Submerging My Trailer, Should I Install Bearing Buddies?
Hey Deane, It usually is a good idea or recommended to use bearing buddies on a trailer if it is going to be submerged. They do a great job of preventing water from getting into the bearings and damaging them. If you want to let me know what bearing numbers you have in your hubs, or the hub bore diameter I can see what options we have for you. Hey Blake, while your spindle may have a diameter of 1.06 inch where the bearings ride the threaded portion would still be 1 inch so for a replacement spindle washer you'd need the part # SW1000.

Spindle Washer Compatibility With 1 Inch Spindle Without D-Shape
Since you don't have the D-shaped spindle that will allow for a D washer, a regular washer for a 1 inch spindle like # SW1000 will work. This washer not having any type of tab will allow it to rotate and without proper grease could cause damage as with any other washer. Many axles come with this type of washer. It is not required to install a washer between the outer bearing and the castle nut on the Trailer Idler Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles part # e48GR. The 2,200 pound axles that I have seen all had a spindle washer. It is possible that your trailer didn't come with one but it is unlikely. The ends of your spindles are likely 1 inch in diameter since it is a 2,200 pound axle so you can use washer # SW1000. Spindle washers protect the castle nut as well as provide evenly distributed force when tightening the nut.

Why Do Some Spindles Use Cotter Pins and Others Use a Tang Washer?
The #42 Spindle # TRU57FR does come with a Standard Washer # SW1000, Cotter Pin # 165649, and Castle Nut # 165686 to secure the hub to the spindle. The D-Washer # 5-23 and Tang Washer # 5-101 were created to allow for a Grease Zerk # LC44XV to fit the end of the spindle and allow you to grease the hub bearings without removing the hub. What Is The Purpose Of A Spindle Washer
Hey Paul, Spindle washers are used to spread out the pressure evenly on the bearings when seating the trailer hub. If the bearing doesn't go on perfectly straight it can bind at an angle, heat up, and then fail while you're driving down the road. I would not recommend milling the spindle to add in a grease zerk. You're taking a lot of risk for something that honestly doesn't help that much. Grease zerks are only there to add more grease into the hub and shouldn't be used to try and...

Does a Washer go Between the Outside Bearing and the Axle Nut?
Yes there should be a thrust bearing/washer between the outer bearing and the nut that goes on to protect the bearing. What you want is Washer For 1" Spindle part # SW1000. This will replace the missing one and get you back on the road. Keep in mind this is for the very common 1" spindle diameter which is what the hub you looked at uses if you have a different size than this let me know.

Where Does Flat Washer Go
I was unable to find an order number so I'm not certain exactly what you are referring to, but in general a flat washer such as Washer For 1" Spindle # SW1000 will go between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on, which essentially works to protect the bearing. These washers are used on spindles with a spindle nut such as Spindle Nut 1" # 165686 and Cotter Pin # 165649.
