Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it a great choice for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. Galvanized steel is durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can be used on trailers that come into limited contact with saltwater as well.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I purchased new bearings, hubs, brake rotor hubs, brake pads, grease caps with rubber inserts, wheels with tires mounted, center caps and lug nuts. All of it was shipped and received in 4 days with free shipping. I have made many large purchases from etrailer and referred them to many people. They have always been great to work with. The quality is very good and don't have one bad thing to say against them. They are my go to store for my utility trailer, enclosed trailer, camper, boat, and truck. Thanks etrailer!! 722782

With the outer bearing races already installed, it was very easy to complete the assembly of the new hub. It took less than 10 minutes to add the rear inner bearing, tap in the rear dust shield, add the front inner race, install on the spindle, add grease and screw on the retaining nut. with the addition of the cotter pin and a dust cap the whole installation went without a hitch. 231087

The hubs have performed wonderfully. Loaded up the trailer with a Farmall Cub and haul it several hundred miles with no problems

Ask the Experts about this Kodiak Trailer Hubs and Drums

  • Converting Hydraulic Drum Brakes to Electric Brakes on Tandem 3,500 Lb Axle Boat Trailer
Yes, plenty of people choose to use electric brakes on their boat trailer because of the lower maintenance and cost as compared to hydraulic brakes. To replace your current hydraulic brakes I recommend our Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA. This includes both the right hand and left hand brake assemblies, mounting bolts and adjuster plugs. If you are unable to reuse your old nuts and lock washers, those are sold separately as part # BRKH10B. Since you were checking out hub...

  • Are Studs on Kodiak 5 on 4-1/4 Trailer Hubs Long Enough to Install a Rotor and Aluminum Wheel
Once a rotor is mounted to Kodiak hub # Q-HUB84545 the thread length of the studs will be reduced by 0.26 inches from 1.20 inches to 0.94 inches. This isn't a huge loss and provided you use the appropriate lug nuts with your aluminum wheels you should be good to go.

  • Hub Compatible with EZ Lube Spindle # R20384EZ
The EZ Lube spindle you referenced is compatible with a 3500 lb axle and L44649 outer and L68149 inner bearings. It would be compatible with the # Q-HUB84545 hub you referenced. We offer two other hubs that would be compatible, the # 84545UC1-EZ idler hub and the # 84546UC3-EZ hub/drum.

  • Recommended Replacement Hubs for Boat Trailer
Choosing replacement hubs for your trailer requires matching up the bearing set used, axle weight capacity and wheel bolt pattern so that everything fits together properly. Once you have these details handy you can use the link provided to see all replacement hubs. First at the top of the page choose idler hubs, hub/drums or hub/discs. Then use the filters on the page to choose your bolt pattern (we'll use 5-on-4-1/2 as an example), inner and outer bearings, axle capacity, etc. For...

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Trailer Bearings and Seals for Trailer Hub
I really wish there was a way to determine what bearings a trailer needed without actually pulling the wheel off and checking, but there isn't. The only two solution I have for you would be to remove the hubs and get the numbers that are stamped on the bearing or for you to remove the hubs and use a digital or dial caliper to measure where the bearings and seal ride (see pic). To pick out a replacement grease seal you will need to measure the diameter of the spindle where the grease...

  • Looking for Galvanized 4 Lug Trailer Hub Compatible w/ # T20BTR-6048 Dexter Trailer Axle
The # T20BTR-6048 Dexter 2K axle you referred to is compatible with a L44649 inner and outer wheel bearing. The # 8-91-05UC1 hub assembly has a 4-on-4 bolt pattern and uses the L44649 bearings. A galvanized version isn't offered, but there's one available in a 5 lug on 4-1/2 bolt circle, part # 8-259-50UC1 for 8-12 inch wheels or # 8-258-50UC1 for 13-15 inch wheels. Keep in mind, if you switched to the 5 lug hub, you'd need to swap out your existing wheels for wheels with a 5-on-4-1/2 inch...

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Hub for 1988 StarCraft Trailer
In order to pick out the correct hub assembly for a trailer you are going to need know a few key pieces of information. The first thing you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs. This is so you get a hub that is compatible with your wheels. I attached an FAQ article on determining bolt pattern for you to check out. Next thing you will need to know is what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from a hub...

  • Grease Cap Recommendation for the Kodiak Hub # Q-HUB84545
I went and pulled a Kodiak Hub # Q-HUB84545 to measure the hub bore and found that it measures 1.98 inches so for a cap you would want the # RG04-040 or any of the other caps in the attached link.

  • Hub for E-Z Lube Spindle on Boat Trailer
In order to determine if hub assembly 8-258-50UC1-EZ will work for you, first know that this assembly is for EZ Lube spindles that require a grease seal with a 1-1/2" inner diameter such as # RG06-020. You are also going to want to remove the hub and take a look at the bearing numbers to make sure your inner and outer bearings are # L44649. Normally that would be enough, but since you sanded the spindle, I also recommend you use a digital caliper such as # PTW80157 and measure the spindle...

  • Dexter Hub Vs. Kodiak Hub Comparison
I would go with the Dexter part # 84545BX as Dexter has an excellent reputation and because the brackets where the wheel studs mount on this hub are thicker and tend to be less likely to crack when compared to other hubs that use thinner material there like the part # Q-HUB84545. I attached review videos for both hubs for you to check out as well.

  • Can the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K be Used for a Saltwater Application
Although hubs that have a black powder coat finish, like the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K that you purchased, will not last as long against saltwater as one with a galvanized finish, like the Kodiak Trailer Hub # Q-HUB84545, you can still use it. The galvanized finish does a better job of resisting saltwater so it is preferred for your situation. Hubs with the black powder coat finish can be used for saltwater applications but you will need to make sure to hose them...

  • Compatibility of 168255TB Grease Seal with Dexter 8-248-50 or Kodiak Q-HUB84545 Trailer Idler Hub
The # 168255TB seal is slightly smaller in outside diameter, therefore it wouldn't fit tightly enough in the hub bore of the # 8-248-50 or the # Q-HUB84545 hub. Both hubs are designed to use either a 10-19 or a # 58846 grease seal. Both hubs you referenced have a 1.980 outer hub bore, so the Bearing Buddies you currently have will work with either hub. Both hubs use a # L68149 inner and a # L44649 outer bearing. If the seal bearing surface of your spindles is about 1.719 inches, either...
