Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 Acura RDX - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2011 Acura RDX, we're going to take a look at, then show you how to install, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame custom fit trailer hitch receiver. This is a class three 2" opening hitch. Its part number is 75784. Here's what our hitch is going to look like once we get it installed on the vehicle. As you can see, it's one of the cleanest looking hitches that we offer. You don't see that tube that's going to come down and mate up with the hitch.

Really the only thing that you're going to be seeing added to the vehicle is the useful portion here. Really nice, clean look. We've got a larger end on it, gives us a little extra support, also helps with some of the hitch immobilizers. Then we've got a 5/8 pinhole with a smaller pinhole just in front of it. That 5/8 pinhole is going to work great for any of the anti-rattle devices or the locking hitch pins. The hole just in front of it is for use with the j-pin stabilization system.

You could really utilize that to secure your gear. This offers an extremely easy installation. You've got two existing weld nuts that you put a bolt into and then a small handle nut that you'll secure another bolt in. Four bolts to put in, no drilling or modifications needed whatsoever. This is a 2" by 2" hitch opening so it's going to work great for hitch cargo carriers, bike racks, or anything like that. It offers a 400 pound tongue weight rating and a 4,000 pound gross trailer weight rating.

Now you do want to refer to your owners manual to make sure that your vehicle can handle that. If not, just go off of whatever of those numbers are the lowest. A couple of measurements that will be important in helping you select your ball mount, bike rack, or maybe hitch cargo carrier will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening we've got about 12-3/4". From the center of our hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of our bumper it's about 4. We'll start here by taking a look at our attachment points. We're going to have two located on the driver side and two in the same spot on the passenger side. Now for our forward-most to the one closest to the front of the car attachment point we're going to use the hole that's located right behind the larger hole.

It's going to be a handle nut that goes up in and in over top of that hole. We'll have a 1/2" bolt that's going to be go right up into it. Now just behind there you'll see the weld nut here. This is going to get the M12 fastener. That's the one that has the finer threads on it. Both of them will receive a conical tooth washer. Now it's a good idea to take a little bit of spray lubricant and also a nylon tube brush, and clean these weld nuts out in the rear. We don't have to worry about the front; we've got our own nut for that. Here in the rear there are existing weld nuts and we want to be sure that we have those free of any debris. You don't have the brush at home, it's part number 814092. Now we're ready to raise our hitch into position. We're going to secure it first using the M12 bolts and the conical tooth washers. Now the teeth of those washers nylon tube brush facing up towards our hitch. We'll start with it almost straight up and down, guide it up, and then just rotate it in. We'll line up our weld nuts with the holes in the hitch and thread our bolts in. Now once we get one started here in our passenger side, let's go over to our driver side and do the same thing. Now with our front two fasteners installed, let's get those handle nuts and get the rear ones started. As you can see, we'll put just a slight bend in them where they'll line up over top of the holes, and thread our bolts right in. We'll take a quick look just to be sure we have our hitch centered. Then we'll start running down our fasteners and securing them. Now we can go to the driver side and repeat that process. Now we'll grab our torque wrench and torque our fasteners down to the specification that we'll find in our instructions. Now we've got our hitch all snugged down. We're ready to hook up and we can hit the road. With our fasteners torqued to specification, that's going to complete our installation of the Draw-Tite Max-Frame trailer hitch receiver, part number 75784, on our 2011 Acura RDX. .

Product arrived on time and looks to be very study. As with other reviews the packaging was significantly torn by the loose trailer hitch that was only secured at one end inside the large cardboard box. This allowed the hitch to slide back and forth within the box. The hitch should be attached to the box at both ends. Fortunately, only the bottom back edge of the hitch had the paint scraped off. This is the part that tore the side of the box open for about 1.5 feet. No other damage. It bolted right into place within 25 minutes using a six-pack cooler as a second pair of hands to hold it up while inserting the bolts. My planned use for the hitch is for a bike rack and maybe a platform carrier. I would recommend the hitch but packaging leaves a lot to be desired. 439165

ACURA RDX 2014 AWD I love this website. They answered all my questions with all the details. Hitch it's really high quality and perfectly fit with the car. Set up pretty straight forward nothing complicated. It took me and my 14 year old daugther about 45 minutes to install it. Looks great on the car. It's doesn't look too extractive and work great with THULE rack. 135646

The service from e-trailer was great and the hitch arrived on time in good condition. Installing this hitch on my Acura RDX was very simple, and it fit perfectly under the bumper. I am in my 60's, and have no mechanical experience, and I installed the hitch in about 30 minutes. The reason it took that long was because an extra set of nuts had been included in the parts packet, and I had to watch the video a second time to make sure they were extras. I followed the advice of another commenter, and used a box to support the other end of the hitch while I installed the bolts. Great advice. The mounts are just barely past the bumper, so there is no need to have to raise the car to do the install. Make sure you watch the video as it make the process much simpler. Before going to etrailer I called the dealer to find out how much it would cost to buy and install a hitch. The price was almost $800 to buy and install a hitch that looked identical to the etrailer hitch. So I spent less than $200 total by buying through etrailer, and was able to install it at a time that was convenient for me, and in less time that it would have taken to have an appointment for an install. Do yourself a favor and buy your hitch from these guys! 183950

We ordered this hitch to install on our New 2016 Acura RDX so that we can haul our road bikes when traveling. The dealership wanted an incredible amount to install the Acura hitch. The product is excellent and fits perfectly to the predrilled wholes in the frame of the Acura. My wife helped me hold up one end while I held the other and place the bolts and tightened them. It took less than 30 minutes and saved me $500 that the dealership would have charged on top of the what I paid etrailer.com. I did not install the wiring harness as I don't expect to pull trailers with this vehicle. The Draw-Tite hitch is also a heavier duty hitch compared to the hitch from the Acura dealership. I was also very happy with the service from etrailer.com. We have had the hitch on the car for about 1.5 years and it still looks good and no rust. 376460

The hitch has done well. We only use it for bikes. I probably should get the wire harness sometime in case we pull a small trailer. Thanks

Hitch installed with exact fit, see photo "hitch.jpg". Instructions said the car's rear facia would slightly tuck over the top, but this tuck is so small you can't see it in regular viewing. I wanted the hitch to carry my really great rear mount bike rack. See photo "Bike Rack.jpg" Mission Accomplished! The mouth of the receiver is set back from the face of the car's bumper by about an inch. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, the hitch is out-of-the way so you won't bruise your shins on it when its not being used. On the other hand, it is harder to reach the pin hole, and the load might end up very close to the car. With my bike rack, it was a close question, but it did clear the tailgate by a tiny margin, so probably no extension is needed. An extra inch of length on the receiver would be nice. 504967

Etrailer website information and videos very helpful in researching appropriate product for my need. Telephone help (Brenden C) very helpful clarifying final questions to help ensure I was getting all required accessory hardware. Product delivered as promised. Was able to install it as planned. Very great overall experience. Would highly recommmend Etrailer to others. 504978

Really glad I went through E-Trailer to get the hitch. First, I got advice from Nicole who help me decide on the hitch to get. Awesome person. Then I got follow-up e-mails from George letting me know my order's status. Finally, I watched the outstanding video on how to install the hitch and did the install. It was nearly flawless. Only issue is that I didn't have an extra pair of hands, so needed to come up with a non-human helping hand. I ended up using my RV leveling blocks to balance the hitch as close to the bolt holes as possible. Once I got one bolt started, the rest of it went without a hitch (pun intended). This is the 2nd hitch I purchased from E-Trailer. The other is on my 2012 Honda Fit. Again, the YouTube video eased my mind and convinced me that the install was within my capability. Great Company, awesome people, and superb products! You are the "go to" source for hitches! Keep up the great work!! 188363

This hitch fit perfectly and was extremely easy to install, didn’t have to move bumper and took only 15 minutes to complete job. Don’t waste your money paying someone else to install. It is however a two person operation. 553577

Its hard to add to the reviews already posted but I'll add some thoughts. The first is that etrailer has been great to work with. Ordering was easy and the item arrived quickly, well packed, and with everything I needed to install the hitch. I even got a follow-up email from them asking for my feedback and whether I had any questions Now, the hitch is built like a tank. Its well made and is solid. Installation instructions in the package were clear and easy to follow, but watching the video online will make the process a breeze in your head. Its not hard at all. That said... this is best done as a two person job because the item is heavy and a bit awkward to move around. You are best backing the vehicle up onto a pair of ramps to give you the room underneath to work. Having a good floor jack is a help for positioning and maintaining the position of the hitch while threading the bolts needed for mounting. I put a towel on the cradle of the jack to help prevent scratching up the new hitch. The threaded holes in the body members that etrailer tells you to clean out with a brush can be kinda crummy if the vehicle isn't new. A brush will help, but having a tap that matches the threads would make the job the easiest. I didn't have one. The fine threads can make it hard to start the bolt, but once you do you can run it in a bit with ratchet wrench to make it easier to catch when you mount up the hitch. The bolt is coated so it fits very tightly. The bolt and handle nut were easy to install. I did the whole job by myself in about an hour and change. Make sure you have the right tools, including a good torque wrench and you should be fine. You'll need a 19mm socket and a longish extension to make life easier and to get the bolts tightened to spec. The hitch looks great and we are ready to carry/tow whatever we need! 562936

I ordered the DrawTite hitch for my 2017 Acura RDX and a Thule 2-bike carrier, and was notified that my order had shipped the same day I placed it. The hitch arrived on the delivery date promised. Like many others have mentioned in their reviews, the hitch had broken free from its flimsy internal supports and was sticking out the end of the box. However, hitches are made to live underneath cars for years, and nothing was damaged, just some minor paint scuffs. The carrier arrived a day later in good shape. I installed the hitch in less than an hour by myself--- and I'm 71, so this is proof that you don't have to be a young, fit guy to do the job, you can be an old, fit guy. My method might be considered unorthodox; my only helpers were a half inflated vinyl exercise ball and two of those flexible, rubber coated twisty tie things you can buy at [big box stores]. I threaded one tie through the unthreaded holes in each of the frame rails, with the ends hanging down, then placed the exercise ball in the middle where the center point of the hitch would be. I positioned (balanced) the hitch on the ball, then tilted one end to get it past the bumper fascia lip and the exhaust resonator. Once in place about an inch below the threaded bolt hole, I secured it in place with the twist tie and did the same at the other side. Then, I could just push the hitch up close enough to the bolt hole to get the bolt started on both sides. With the hitch securely hanging, I untied and removed the twist ties, installed the bolts in the unthreaded holes using the nuts-on-a-stick, and ran all the bolts down snug. From that point, all I had to do was torque everything to spec, put my tools away and treat myself to a cold beer as I gazed upon my finished project... 454590

Pretty straight forward installing the hitch. Didn't have to lift up the car. Only problem I had was holding up the hitch while placing the bolts. The hitch is pretty heavy and need an extra strong person to hold it up. I did not have another person helping me but fortunately, I had some lifts to hold up the hitch. Once I figured out how to hold the hitch up, it took about 20 minutes to finish. Minor note.....the black welded bolts were difficult to get into the holes. Took about 5 minutes each. Might have been because I was lying down on the ground. Also, it comes with two hex nuts. These are meant for the welded bolts but I think they are just extra (since the welded bolts go straight into the vehicle). All in all, great value and excellent service. Received the hitch within a week on free shipping. 383021

The Hidden Hitch arrived undamaged. It is well made, sturdy, with a nice finish. Installation took me about an hour on my 2013 RDX. I ended up removing the plastic pins that hold the fascia to the two brackets. It was the only way I could line up the holes. After I did the installation, I watched the Draw-Tite video, which is longer and more detailed than the Hidden video, and includes instructions to remove the pins before installation, and shows how the bend the brackets after installation. I wish I would have watched the Draw-Tite video before I did the installation, it would have saved time. Also raising the vehicle would have made the installation easier. But I am very pleased with etrailer.com and the final install. 84464

I just installed the hitch on my 2013 RDX. It was a little cumbersome, but I was able to get it on alone, and the bike rack fits in cleanly and easily. While not being particularly handy, the video was very helpful and I was able to install the hitch without a hitch. (sorry!). Looking forward to getting out where we can ride our bikes again. 574375

I'm 65 years old (diminished physical capacity) and a banjo player (diminished mental capacity) and this morning after breakfast I installed the Class III - 2" Receiver Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch on a 2017 Acura RDX in 35 minutes. I would have been 20 minutes but I had to go to the junk shed (twice) for five 2" x 6" wood blocks to hold the hitch up while I bolted it on. Four years ago I put an etrailer hitch on our first RDX so I had a little experience. I figured I save about $450 dollars over the dealer installation. I ordered the hitch from etrailer the same time I ordered some banjo strings and some soaker hose. I'm still waiting on the strings and hose. Etrailer service is fantastic. It's a shame they don't sell banjo strings. 573808

Ok... thought you might like to hear from a auto repair shop. I chose this specific hitch and the supplier because of the reviews. The RDX is a new vehicle to the shop owners wife and we wanted the best we could find for her. We often use presumed simple jobs to help train our apprentices. This D.T. was no exception. I came out into the shop to check on his progress and it was installed! I mean in just a few minutes. Yes we had it up on a hoist, but the real insight was asking the techs, "how did it go?" Techs responded with the usual, just a few words... "slammed it" and "done". Folks... that means you can do it too at home. It looks great and the bosses wife is happy! Pictured are Master Technician Lance and Apprentice Technician Eric. Our recommendation to you is this... great product, great supplier, order it! 404414

Product delivered very timely- though the box was damaged. Hitch appeared very solid (it is heavy) and had a good paint coat. Instructions delivered in four languages, and were clear and easy to follow. Couple suggestions. a) the instructions do not give directions to put the knurled side of the washer towards the car frame. b) there are two spacers that need to be taped in place before positioning the hitch. c) Initially, holding the hitch in place, i had trouble getting the metric bolts to engage in the frame welded nut. I ended up removing the hitch and just inserting the bolts and giving them a few turns. Then removed, re-positioned the hitch, and things went relatively smoothly. The parts bag contained two extra nuts for the imperial bolts - not sure why. I assumed used if no welded bolts in the frame. I installed this unassisted in about 40 minutes. fit perfectly... 567241

Solid hitch. It is well built and easy to handle. Only issue I had was the packaging. First of all, this shipment did not come from etrailer guys directly. When I placed my order, their awesome customer service contacted me within 20 minutes letting me know that they are out of stock and the next batch of hitches are delayed by the vendor. I was offered to switch to Curt hitch. They are great too but I did not go with that option. 1) They are more expensive (maybe 15 bucks more) 2) They require a safety strap with bike racks and I do not want to hook anything to my car. The curt however has higher tongue weight. I am not planning on towing anything (well for now). My sole reason for this hitch is hooking up my bike rack. I have a Kuat Transfer 2 and it is a great rack The hitch was wrapped in a paper to protect it from getting scrathsed. However there were no bubble wraps anything like that. The hitch was sticking out of the shipping package. It was scratched in multiple places. No big deal. I mean it would be nice to get a scratch free one, but realize this that the hitch will be underneath the car and it will get hit by rocks and so on. My only issue is that I live in Minnesota and winters require tons of salting, so we get rust a lot. My fix to address this issue was to purchase a can of Rustleuom primer and paint. I double coated all of the scratches and it was dried to touch in 2 hours and fully cured in 24. So now let's get to the installation. This was super easy. Do not pay someone to do it. Have someone help you. It makes it super easy. We had the hitch installed in 5 minutes. No lift of jacking required. I was also thinking of getting car ramps but it slides in pretty easy. With two people you can lie down and slip into position and then screw the bolts. I think with one person you can lift it up and put in on a box or pile of boards and then screw each side. I'd suggest taking care of the handled nuts first. Bend and shape them and then place them in the holes. With this once you are underneath, you can screw the bolts to the welded nuts and then move to the last two bolts, then you dont have to get up and fix the handled ones while the hitch is dangling. Just beware, then welded nuts need to be clean or otherwise it would not screw that well. As mentioned, I live in Minnesota. It took us 30 to 40 minutes of spraying WD-40 and brushing the holes. It was painful. There was so much rust you cant even believe it. We could not screw past 1 turn. So the hitch itself is easy. Other things might cause complications. I rented a torque wrench from Autozone and it turned out to be out of spec. So we drove there and got another one. Just FYI, 115lbs of torque is tons pressure. You need to put a lot of muscle into it to get it to that point. Do not feel like you are over-tightening it. It will click at one point. We felt like that we are not doing it right. I found a Discount Tire right by the Autozone store and the staff there torqued to spec for us free of charge. The technician was amazed on how much 115lbs torque was. He kept turning and twisting and not hearing a click. It was kind of funny but we got it done. It looks great and sturdy 377395

It is a great hitch and works well. I had to paint it when I received since there were some scratches on it. I live in MN and we get a lot of salt on road and rust is a major issue. Unfortunately I backed into a small stone step behind my garage which scrapped the side of the hitch. It actually held up well and crushed the stone. Only issue is the pain got scrapped off. It happened in November and it was too cold to paint it. Now it is a bit rusty, mostly superficial. I need to scrap the rust and repaint it

Rated good since etrailer did a great job expediting my order and getting it to me quickly. And, the hitch itself is heavy duty and good quality. However, installation was very difficult. This hitch must not have been tested on a 2013 Acura RDX. To say that the rear fascia may need to be slightly pulled down is a gross understatement (at least for the 2013 RDX). The holes would not line up by about 3/4 of an inch. The hitch was pushed directly against the fascia support brackets, which do not give easily. It took one person pulling very hard on the fascia while another person struggled to push the hitch in place so the holes would line up. Then, while struggling to do that, you have to hold the weight of the hitch and thread the screws. We eventually enlisted a third person to help. Would not rate this installation difficulty a 3. I eventually succeeded in installing the hitch, but a better design would have made it much easier. 49662

Hitch installed on my 2011 Acura RDX as the video explained. Love your videos! Due to my car being 8 years old, I had to use a tap to clean out the rusty frame threads before installing the two rear hitch bolts. The bumper brackets were a bit in the way, but after a small amount of bending outward the hitch cleared them. After cleaning out the treads and bending the bumper brackets, hitch installation was a breeze. Great products and great prices. Thanks etrailer! 689954

This is an outstanding company, with excellent service. I mistakenly ordered two receivers for my 2016 Acura RDX and called customer service this morning (Greg) when I realized I received multiple boxes. No problem. Greg even double checked my order to make sure that I had the right applications. I can't wait to install the bike hitch and rack - they look great. This is a solid, quality company. This is the second hitch I have purchased from etrailer. The information and videos provided pre-purchase helped make my decision easier. I also purchased the Tekonsha wiring harness at the same time, which came in the hitch box. Online ordering is easy, the hitch arrived within a few days, the box was undamaged, and there was only one little nick on the hitch itself. Reading about everyone else's installation experience gave me the confidence to do it myself. (Had the first hitch installed by my mechanic.) I have a 2015 Acura RDX. Once you get under your car, you will see very quickly exactly where the bolts go. Based on one reviewer's experience of having to spend a lot of time cleaning the frame rail weldnut bolt holes of rust, I decided to try to seat those bolts first without the hitch just to see how much trouble I might have. This is where things went south. I spent more than an hour cleaning the bolt holes and trying to get the bolts to seat. I was finally able to get them started albeit at a slightly odd angle. I backed them out and got my son to help hold the hitch up to get all the bolts started. The silver bolts used with the handle nuts went in with no problem. The black bots used in the frame rail gave us trouble, but we were finally able to get them snugged up. Had we not had that issue, the install would have been as quick as others have noted. I spent more time watching videos, unpacking the parts, reading the instructions , and gathering tools than it took to install the hitch. It's a tight squeeze between the rear facia brackets and the hitch, but it does fit with a little persuasion. I am not a car person and was able to do this, so I encourage others to do the install yourself. The only thing I could not do was torque the bolts to the specs in the instructions, but that hitch is not going anywhere. Finally, there are two nuts supplied that you will not need. 667431

Perfect fit. Very easy install. I used my lithium impact driver with a 19mm socket and extender bar. You may have to use a stick etc to clean out the factory threads, mine had a bit of debris/undercoating in them. 667386

Previously, I had ordered from one of etrailer's competitors... It was a mistake! Twice, they sent me a hitch, unboxed, not even wrapped in plastic. Twice, I had to return it due to damage in transport. etrailers's quality of product and quality of shipping is excellent! I will definitely do business with them again. 665736

2014 Acura RDX

So far so good, just installed today on 2014 Acura RDX. BE SURE YOU USE THE STEEL SPACER BLOCKS if your RDX is 2013 or newer. I didn’t see them at first on the directions and they are not mentioned in the video, so at first the hitch was tilted upward and pushing the plastic “bumper” upward. Had to remove rear bolts and loosen the other two and slip the spacers in at the rear with rear bolts through them, then tighten it all again. Then the hitch looked a lot better and wasn’t mashing the plastic up. 647162

I ordered the hitch for 2016 Acura RDX. The package arrived on time using the 3 day shipping thats available. Everything was intact with no dents or scratches on the hitch. The quality of the material is excellent. Installing the hitch was easier than I imagined. I used two jack stands to hold the hitch in place close to the mounting holes. I did it alone but an extra hand is welcome. I cleaned the mounting holes before starting and had no trouble screwing the bolts in. I didn’t have any problems and did it in my driveway. It was approx 30 mins for the install time. I plan on putting a bike rack on the hitch but may do some hauling also. 612434

Arrived on time but you need to have a chat with UPS...the box was pretty well beat up. It had a 1" hole in the side and several of the copper staples were pulled loose. A good indication that the box was dropped! The fitment was fantastic and installation was a snap. Less than 30 minutes. This is my 3rd E-trailer hitch purchase and installation. Feedback Tips. 1: The rear bolt holes on the Acura RDX are already tapped for the bolts. Did not need the provided nuts. 2: First time installers and many DIY people are not going to know what the difference is between a CL 8.8 and GR5 bolt. Seeing that the grade 5 bolts are black in color...indicate that in the instructions and on the diagram. 3: There is nothing in the written description about using the shim blocks. It's only shown in the diagram. Regards. 612074

I took this hitch to the local Honda dealer where I had my Acura RDX in for repairs and they did the installation. The word I got back from them after afterwards was that it fit like a glove, even better than some auto manufacturer's OEM hitches they have installed. I have had zero issues or problems to date. Thank you e-trailer this was one of the best purchases I have made and an excellent value! 607425

Excellent product. Arrived nicely packaged with all mounting hardware, and instructions. After a year in use it still looks like new. It is mounted to an Acura RDX... used for bicycle rack mainly. Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Hitch & Bike Rack Recommendations for 2017 Acura RDX AWD SUV
  • Between the Curt # C13130 and the Draw-Tite # 75784 2-inch Class III hitches I recommend the Draw-Tite since it does not require you to use a support strap # 18050 as the Curt does, and since its 400-lb tongue weight rating is more than adequate for any bike rack. Plus it costs less! As for hitch bike carriers to use with this hitch, you can use any compatible 2-inch Class III rack that has enough clearance to avoid contact with the back of the RDX. When we installed this hitch on a...
