Video Transcript for MaxxTow MaxxHaul Truck Bed Ladder Rack Review

Hi there, heavy haulers. Today we're going to be taking a look at MaxxTow's MaxxHaul truck bed ladder rack. This ladder rack is going to allow you to take things that you would normally keep in the back of your truck bed and place them up out of the bed up on top. What's nice about this is that you can have longer items than what would normally fit in your bed, and be able to haul them flat without them just hanging out over the back. And you still have all this space here in the back while they're up top. We have up to 500 lbs of capacity on this ladder rack, to haul whatever we need.

So if this is your work truck you can put equipment up there, freeing up space in the back for maybe some of your heavier equipment like acetylene torches or bigger heavier saws and things you may bring onto the job site. And if you're just a regular home consumer, this is great for you if you're doing your home projects, particularly if you're going to be hauling any wood, a lot of beams. Sometimes you can get 12 foot boards, and that's a pretty long thing to hang out the back of your truck. You'd be looking at all about four feet sticking out the back that you have to compensate for. But with this we could easily have it hang partially over the cab and down the back, minimizing the length of our vehicle so we don't have to worry about it when driving down the road. And when the work's all done, some of our customers have been using this ladder rack for recreational items, such as kayaks, boats, and canoes.

And as you can see here, I was able to get two kayaks loaded up on here, with even a little bit room to spare. Now it is going to vary slightly from truck to truck, but I feel like most full-sized trucks should have no problem. Now some of our customers are wondering, will this ladder rack work with a tonneau cover And it most likely will not work with any tonneau cover, due to the clamping device that it has. The J-hook will likely stick up too high. This ladder racks's a universal fit that'll fit most truck beds, and it has an operating width between 52" and 71". Our customer, Giovanni, even got a little bit creative with his, and instead of putting on his truck he was able to put it on his trailer, turning it into a nice little canoe fishing rig, where you can bring your canoe and all your gear.

Nice and easy. It's a quick, no-drill installation. The J-hooks that come included with it will clamp it onto the bed rails of your truck. If we take a closer look here at our J-hook, it's not just a J that goes down and hits the bottom of our bed rail. There's actually a bar that attaches to the J on the under side of the bed rail, increasing the surface area so we get more clamping force between the bottom of our bed rail and the top, where our ladder rack sits on it. And this will also ensure that we don't deform our bed rail.

So you don't have to worry about drilling any holes into it, but you will notice on the top of our ladder rack rails here, where it sits on the truck, there are pre-drilled holes so if you wanted to further secure it, to have a more permanent mount, you could drill out the holes and do so.But I like that it does just use this clamp, because it does give you the option if you don't make it a permanent mount to easily adjust the width between the front and rear ladder rack assemblies. For instance, here we're hauling some shorter ladders. And when I had it fully spaced apart the ladders wouldn't reach both the bars, so we we're able to just simply loosen it up, slide the rear one forward, and then easily get our ladders up on top. And the way you'll adjust the width for your particular truck is using the set screws located here at the top. The center bar here does go inside the tubes for each of the arms on the outside, and you can just adjust the width as necessary, and then tighten the set screws back down. Now here up on top on each side we do have load stops, so we don't have to worry about our gear sliding off the edge. Now we've got everything properly strapped down, so it's not going anywhere, but you could also use this as a bump stop to strap things tight up against to it. This is really useful if you're hauling some wood on one side, you can stack that wood up and keep it tight up against the bed stops over here, and then keep your ladders and other things over here on the other side. There's plenty of tie-downs on this ladder rack. On each arm here we're going to have a cleat to tie down to, and this is nice because you can wrap your straps around to ensure that they stay nice and tight. And we also have one here on bottom on each side, on both front and rear. One of the things I like about this ladder rack over others, is the fact that they did include this one here at the bottom of the rail. Many of your ladder racks are just going to have the tie-downs off to the side or in the corners, which can pull your ladders off to the side and keep them tight, but there's not necessarily something to keep it going forward or backward. Having one right here in the center allows you to easily wrap around a step and keep it nice and tight. So we can secure it side to side with our load stops and front to back with the tie-down point there. And that's great, because we have nice fixed load stops and everything, but what I don't like about it compared to some of the other ladder racks is that other ones do have adjustable load stops, where you can bring everything in and keep everything nice and tight, perfectly matching your load.To give you an idea of how much space you're going to have inside your truck bed, from the top of our bed rail to the bottom of our ladder rack here, it's going to measure about 26". So we'll have about that much height, with the exception here for our little handle sticking down. If you're also wondering how tall is this going to make my truck Am I still going to fit in the garage From the top of your truck bed rails to the top of the rack ladder rack it's about 30 1/8".To help match the look of your truck it has a nice black powder coat finish on it, and that also protects the completely steel ladder rack from any rust or corrosion. And since our ladder rack is constructed of a tubular shape it's going to be more aerodynamic than square bars would be. This can just help reduce some wind noise when going down the road. Now you also notice here that I've got the MaxxHaul headache rack installed. And I've been using this on my truck here for quite some time and I like it a lot. But I like the fact that when this is on my toolbox still fits, and you can see we can easily add more accessories like this ladder rack. Now I did pull my toolbox out, just so we could get a large spread on this and see it working. But since it is adjustable here, we could easily loosen this up, slide it back down, and drop that toolbox back in place with no problem. Now as you can see here I've got my toolbox back in. And it sits right inside of my headache rack with no problem, where we can still open up our toolbox and get inside, and still get all of our gear loaded up on top of the ladder rack. And that completes our look at MaxxTow's MaxxHaul truck bed ladder rack.

2020 Nissan Frontier

I am very happy with this ladder rack for my 2020 Nissan Frontier. Once I got the J-Bolts all figured out with my utili-track system, it was very easy to install / uninstall. I'm utilizing this rack for holding a cargo basket(pictured)and a Yakima Cargo box for camping/traveling. Both devices fit very well onto this ladder rack. This was an easy and inexpensive way for me to add extra storage to my truck. Thanks etrailer!

I wasn’t sure what to think about it after I got it all assembled. The metal bars that the anchor j hooks go in doesn’t fit right with the Nissan rail system. I just tightened the mess outta them to make sure they were snug. You have to set up the j hooks first before you slip the rack over it. It did the job I needed it to I used it to haul two 10 ft fishing kayaks. All they tie down spots are awesome. For sure would buy again.

Fits my 2018 Chevy Colorado. Easy installation and a great ladder rack for a great price.

I sold my business, and have be keeping busy as a family handyman. Both my daughters purchased homes that fortunately were older and needed work. The newer homes get bidding wars, and you pay more than the house is worth. My small truck with its 5 foot bed, cant really haul wood or larger ladders. This ladder rack is great. I overloaded it with about 700-800 pounds of20- 16 foot 2x6 pressure treated wood. I did have a 3rd Thule single rack mounted on my cab to help with the load. I especially love the versatilty of removing the top portion in 2 minutes. It is about one inch too high for my garage.I need a rack when you buy simple things like 12 foot aluminum flashing. 16 foot boards are more econmical. When I load dirt, or get a frontloader to fill my bed with manure. the rack top can be removed. The nuts or the bolts do collect rust, so keep the wd 40 handy. The price and the quality make this a great value. I look at other racks for $900 -$2500 and yes they look nicer, but the MAxX Haul racks get the job done. If I'm going to spend $2500 on a rack I'll get a plastic surgeon to adjusts my wife's rack! At 62 her D rack is starting to droop.

So here is the straight skinny. The rack is great! 2013 Nissan Frontier Pro4X with utility tracks. The provided hardware DOES NOT fit with the utility tracks despite the description. The good news is that one trip to Tractor Supply to get 1/2 inch threaded hooks was all it took to solve the problem. Again, the rack is rock solid and is the best option for the price with no drilling. If you don't have utility tracks the supplied hardware will fit I'm sure. If you do, go find a 1/2" threaded hook with a narrower gap. You will also need the nut. The flat washer and lock washer supplied will be fine.

Thank you for your review. The fit of this will be a little strange to maneuver but we have seen success this way. If you are trying to wrap the J-Hook around the utili-track system instead of trying to maneuver around it, then please try it this way.

Very good fit. I installed this on a 2019 Nissan Titan. The J-hook is a 7/16 bolt. My truck came with a cargo tie down system made of aluminum. It was super easy to drill through and really secured this ladder rack to the bed. No wind noise up to 50MPH I have not had a chance to get on the open road to see what 80MPH sounds like, but I have complete confidence this is solid and not going anywhere.

- MT70386

Maxxhaul Ladder Rack was fairly easy to install..The bolts were twice as long as I needed, I may swap them out for shorter stainless steel bolts.. Seems very sturdy, but I haven't hauled anything with it yet...

- MT70386

I have a retrax pro xr bed cover, I bought these cause the were inexpensive, all I had to do was cut of the edge off every bottom mount and they fit right tight using the t-slot rail system. Super strong, looks good and durable!

- MT70386

Easy installation with a good tight fit on the truck bed. After one overnight rain it's already showing rust. Will have to do a paint over. Tried to upload pictures but came back as unsuccessful.

Thank you for your review. Please make sure any nicks in paint are covered to prevent rust. Here are some more tips:

Exactly what I was looking for and exactly as advertised. Easy to install and I did it by myself. I’m 77 years young.

1994 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

Installed on a 1994 S-10 regular cab, regular bed. A little large looking, but not out of place when viewed from a distance. These work great. Good build quality, very little environmental wear and tear after a year. I did install the bolts with some 2x3 wood shims under the bed rail for rigidity. I recommend these as a good adjustable rack kit for any small size truck.

- MT70386
2001 Ford Ranger

I received the rack on time, and found it to be in fairly good condition, the usual wear and tear from shipping. During assembly I found the kit to be 4 short of bolts, nuts, washers, not a big deal, I have plenty of extras around. One of the set screw nuts was welded on 2 sides, but only one side was welded properly, so with one turn of the set screw it popped off, (picture) but I just popped the rest off and drilled it out and ran a tap through it and screwed in a bolt, problem solved. The rack seems to be fairly sturdy and works for what I'm using it for which is hauling my canoe around. I only gave this 3 stars because the workmanship should have been better, and was missing 4 bolts. All in all I feel it was a good buy for the price, if you want better quality probably want to spend some more $$.

- MT70386

It’s great doing business with your company, thank you for your high level of professionalism.

- MT70386

It was a lot easier than I expected to install the racks on my Ford 2011 Ranger. I was expecting to have to drill hole in my truck bed, but I ended up not having to. I haven’t been able to use the racks yet,. I am still waiting on more parts so that I can transport my OC-1 canoe

- MT70386

Was exactly what I was looking for to install my Malone " Seawings" to for hauling kayaks around. Easy to install and fits perfectly.

- MT70386
2019 Ford Ranger

Really heavy duty. Looks great and tie downs are big enough for good sized rope or small chain. Very robust unit. Plan to permanently mount one behind the cab and keep the rear one as spare or temporary use.

- MT70386

Awesome best purchase ever. Easy on, easy off. Ive kept it on because I use it a lot. I don't want to make it permanent. And there is no reason too. It stays put with the bolts provided. Excellent value!!!!

- MT70386

Max Haul Truck Bed Ladder Rack was exactly what I wanted. Very sturdy and easy to install. Arrived in 2 days, much faster than expected. Vrry satisfied with this product and etrailer.

- MT70386

Excellent fit and very easy to install. I use it for a 32 ft ladder and it is very sturdy and I trust it already. Thanks guys I’m definitely using y’all for my next products

- MT70386
2004 GMC Sierra

Great item, easy to install! Rack delivered at 10 am, had it installed by 1pm! Tried to get greatest spacing so had to use stake pockets to clamp end mount holes. Super solid, had 32 foot ladder on it, still felt solid. For under $$$ ya can't beat it!

- MT70386
1998 Dodge Dakota

The ladder rack works really well. It was simple to install and went together easily. It gets my ladders out of my truck bed allowing me more room to haul just like I need.

- MT70386

It was less expensive that what appeared to be comparable products. I am satisfied with the quality for the price. I have used 30+ times hauling lumber and kayak. Why not 5 stars? I am concerned that the vertical supports going down to the bed rail do not have drain holes for any water that gets in the tubes that are not sealed. I guess I could have used duct tape to seal the two open areas but did not. Once water gets in, it's in. I would buy again and seal with silicone and or duct tape.

- MT70386

the product is great, the length was wrong for my truck i have a 4ft bed made it work with some alternation, thank you.

- MT70386
2014 Nissan Frontier

I haven't installed it yet. I trial fitted everything and it looks good. It should work great for hauling my canoe. It keeps things cheaper and simpler than having a trailer. Everything seems in very good condition. The little plugs that screw in to lock things together seem solid.

- MT70386

I’m really happy with this purchase. It came together exactly as I had thought it would. I rally like the fact that it assembles fairly easy and you don’t have to drill any holes. Feels very study and should last a long time.
