Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Front Mount Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Ford F-250

Today, on this 2012 Ford F-250, we're going to install part number 65049 from Draw-Tite. This is what the hitch looks like when its installed on the vehicle. Next, we'll give you some measurements to help you out when selecting some accessories. From the top of the receiver openings down to the ground should be about 15-3/4 inches and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper in this case, we measured out to the license plate, its going to be about 5-1/4 inches. Now, we'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First thing you need to do is go ahead and remove some bumper brackets there at the end of the frame.

There'll be two bolt assemblies, one on each side that we have to remove to lower our brackets. These brackets and the bolts will not be reinstalled. This will be the same on the passenger side. Next, we'll go ahead and remove the floor lid below the bumper. There will be nut and bolt assemblies, as well as plastic rivets. Once we have all those removed, we can go ahead and lower it and out of the way.

Now, at this point, we can go ahead and see where the hitch installs on the vehicle. There will be an oval slot on the side of the frame and then the hitch, we'll use one of the existing holes from one of the bumper brackets that was removed earlier. Before we install the hardware, we'll go ahead and show you how it looks on the hitch before we install it. The bolts will mount from the inside to the outside. And for the fastener closest to the bumper, it will be the bolt and the flat washer and then the lock washer and nut and on the bolt going towards the back will be the carriage bolt and the a lock nut and washer.

One thing to know about this carriage bolt is that the head of it will lock into the inside oval of the frame. Now, with an extra set of hands, we'll go ahead and push it up and align it with the holes. We'll use an alignment tool to help line up her holes and then we'll go ahead and install the hardware. We'll start with the bolts going towards the front. Then, well use the bolt leader that comes with the kit to install the carriage bolts that go towards the back of the vehicle. We'll guide our pull wire through the mounting location and then out the access hole.

We'll then thread the bolts and pull them into position. Now, with all the hardware loose, we can maneuver the hitch around to get our holes to line up. We'll repeat this on the other side. Once all the hardware is installed, we'll go ahead and tighten down the bolts and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. Our hitch is fully installed. Now, we'll go ahead and turn out attention to the spoiler that we removed earlier. We'll hold up our spoiler up to the hitch to get a general idea of where we need to cut out for it. We'll measure from the center of the fastener down to the hitch. That will give us an idea of how far to go down. Now, this can vary from vehicle to vehicle. In this case, the measurement was around 2.5 inches. We'll transfer that to the backside of our spoiler and then we'll go ahead and measure off from there 1.5 inches on each side to give a total of 3 inches. It will make a square of 3.5 inches wide x 3.5 inches long. We'll go ahead and use a rotary tool to go ahead and make our sets. That's our first cut. We'l go ahead and do a test fit to make sure everything is okay. Next, we'll go ahead and take some time out to clean up the edges. With it installed for good, then we'll reinstall all the fasteners. With that, our install is finished. There you have it for part numbers 65049 for Draw-Tite on our 2012 Ford F-250.

This hitch was very easy to install and looks great !! The only thing I didn`t like was that the inside dimension of the hitch flange (were the hitch slides over or around the truck frame) was about 3/8" wider than the truck frame. This made it very difficult to tighten and making the hitch symmetrical installation as I already laid out the center line of the truck and cut the hole in the valance under the front bumper. I did call the customer service team and her reply was (it probably got bent during shipping) WOW !! Anyway, This item looks good, simple installation, serves the purpose and I would buy another one if needed !!! 464488

Installed 65049 on my 2015 F350 DW 4 WD. All went good. Put a strap around bumper and receiver to hold in place while I got a couple of bolts in. Removal of front air dam was also helpful. I had to loosen two 15 mm bolts on the stabilizer in order to get driver side in. Was either grind a little off or loosen u shaped stabilizer. By my self about 4 hours (just hand tools). 563552

Arrived on time as ordered. Box was smashed open. Minor paint scratches where the box was smashed open. The hitch feels strong and appears to be built well. The installation was easy if you follow the directions. This is a solid hitch and looks great. Highly recommended. 600878

Seems like a good product. Not easy to attach but that is the fault of the truck, not the hitch. Exceptional service from etrailer.com - fast, efficient. 440342

I installed this hitch on the front of my F250 for the purpose of backing my camping trailer into my very tight RV Pad next to my home. It has also been really great for putting my 30 foot trailer into tight camping areas. I don't know what I would do without it. With the camera on the back of the camping trailer it goes into almost any area without any assistance. Most of the time it is just me and my dog, and she isn't any help at all! I would recommend this hitch for this application for anyone who enjoys camping. The other plus was the ease of installation. It took me about an hour to install!! I had to use a jack stand to hold it up on one side while I bolted the other side. I think it would have even been easier if I had asked for some help, but I didn't need too, and was able to get the job done. I had to reroute some wires, but that was easy also. If I would need to use it for a winch, I would recommend a heavier hitch according to the size of the winch. I could use a light weight winch with about 9K pull, I think as long as I remember the limitation but probably won't. I would recommend this hitch because of how useful it is and for ease of installation. 563361

Easy installation. You may want to use two people, but one can do it. Took a little over 90 minutes doing it by myself. Instructions are clear and concise. I plan to use the front hitch for a bike rack when pulling our pop up camper. Or will also make putting it in the garage easier, as it can be pushed in. Meets my needs perfectly. 260952

Hardest part of the mounting process was the air dam fitting. The jig to install one pair of bolts made a normal bloody knuckle job a snap. RECOMMEND If one person tries to install solo have a couple of small hydraulic jacks and drift pins in easy reach. Instructions were very lucid 428654

Great hitch the kit was ok they gave me two bolts that did not fit the nuts and where too long.I think you should provide a templet for the cut in the plastic it would be cleaner finish. 20376

2 bolts wo the right nuts? That says pretty bad QA on the part of Draw-Tite. How hard is it, to match bolts and nuts? Boo! Makes me wonder if I should buy Draw-Tite over another mfg. A match is one of those things that one wouldnt think of until one has to make a run to the nearest hardware store on 2nd thought, thats a great way to kill the day which, might keep you from mowing the lawn today, dearI agree that it wouldnt cost the mfgr. much to include a template. Personally, I dont appreciate the cut, try, cut approach either.Just my dime - which still makes a handy screwdriver.

Excellent Product! Installation took longer than expected. I don't have a car lift so I did the entire installation with all truck wheels on the ground and with me sliding up under the truck. Applying the lock down torque was a little difficult but everything else was a piece of cake. I've never done this before so I was nervous - I'm frugal and didn't want to pay to have it done. I got most of my install information from the etrailer video but I'm glad I read the instructions that came with the receiver because the unit comes with two different bolt sizes nearly identical in size and the size difference is imperceptible unless you are looking closely for it. I ended up buying a deep throat 15/16 six point socket with a 1/2" drive to fit into my 24" long breaker bar and I also bought blue lock-tite and four additional nuts. The bolts are long enough to add another nut which when torqued against the first nut serves to lock it in place better. The long bolt length required a deep throat socket. 385352

Nice fit, pretty good instructions, could use a 2nd wire bolt puller. Suggest install using an ASSISTANT! I did mine alone, in a garage, no lift......3 hours. You NEED to take off the facia/air dam. FYI-Ford uses an 18mm nut to hold on the 2 brackets that need removal. Cut out for receiver on airdam using a Dremel tool,. 231601

This review is for my 2015 F350 4x4 Platinum. Thanks etrailer from start to finish. Found my front hitch easy, Arrived on third day. The box was torn open from shipping, however thanks etrailer for the protective end cover and wrapping hardware with heavy tape. No scratches or missing parts (yay) installed by myself with a pump jack. Perfect fit as if Ford made it. Thanks for the follow up on day it was delivered thanks George (nice touch) This was my first buy from e-trailer and I'm very satisfied. I wanted an easy website to find and feel confident the part needed was the exact fit for my truck, name brand part, free shipping, and a decent price with excellent customer service. Found it!!! 425408

I ordered a Tonno Pro folding soft Tonneau Cover and a front mount Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch. The Tonneau cover came fast and I installed it in 5 minutes just like they said it keeps out the weather and looks good. The hitch took two weeks to arrive but it looks great I installed it in about 3 hours. I had a front hitch on my last truck and it is the greatest thing for moving trailers around the yard. Plus it can be used to mount a winch or other things like a bike rack. 399368

Needed a front receiver to put a bike rack on my 2015 Ford F-350 (2WD) for use with my slide-in camper. Price on the details page I was viewing changed overnight when I went to place my order, but etrailer honored the earlier price. Order was placed 6/12 with a 3-5 days estimated delivery. It arrived on 6/14. Very fast service & shipping! Installation took me about 3 hours, working alone & without power tools and a pause to re-view the installation video. My truck did not have the brackets referenced for possible removal. Would be nice if video showed how one installs the front bolts with the limited accessibility between frame and bumper that I had in to 2015 F-350, with the installed tow hooks. Front left nut had limited clearance between frame, which affected my ability to use a socket and torque wrench. Finished installation provides about 9" ground clearance and requires about 3" hitch length to clear the bumper and grill. Otherwise, installation was simple, pretty much as described in the 2012 Ford video. 395063

Love the front receiver for my F250 Super Duty Putting the boat in the backyard between trees and into the building can be like threading a needle. Pushing it makes all the difference. Having the trailer pivot point just a few feet from the steering tires makes this job super easy. First time everytime. Super easy install. Re: Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch Vehicle: 2015 Ford F250 SuperDuty 4x4 Finally got a chance to install the new front mount hitch. I was a little concerned the install might be too much for one person to handle, but it absolutely was not. Delivery was pretty quick and while the box had rips in it from transport, the hitch was undamaged. A testament to packaging I guess. After opening the box, I found the accessories kit and installation page. I admit, I also watched the draw-Tite install video a couple times. The hitch was surprisingly simple to install by myself, however, I did use my standard floor jack to raise the hitch and keep it in place as I installed the hardware. The fish wire supplied with the kit is a great and necessary feature. Advise: Install the forward bolts first - loosely, then work on the rear bolts before tightening everything up to specs. Only thing it didn’t have that would have been nice, is one of those rubber plugs that go on when not using the hitch. It could even have had the Etrailer or Draw-Tite logo on it. Bottom line, it was simple for one person using a floor jack to install and took less than an hour to complete. Thanks for a great product at a fair price. 265999

Ordered this for my F450. As usual, etrailer shipped it quickly and it arrived promptly at my door. The product fit my vehicle perfectly and the instructions were easy to follow. I had one small problem...2 of the nuts that they sent were the wrong size, contacted etrailer and they contacted the manufacturer and a few days later I received the correct parts. I have bought from etrailer before and will again. I have always been satisfied with my purchase. Way to go etrailer!!! 313132

Front receiver Ford F250 The install was pretty straight forward and the fitment was perfect. The bolt pull wire made the rear bolts go in very easy. I had to remove the bottom bolts in the fog lights to get the torque wrench in the front bolts, but that only took about 30 secs. My Warn Winch has a new home. 4717

Quick delivery, well packaged, and all fasteners included. Bolted right up with no issues. Did the install by myself and used a floor jack as my assistant. I have a 2016 F350 4x4 SRW diesel. I previously installed a 2wd front valence which is much shorter than the 4wd valence. Thise means I was able to mount the hitch without removing the valence from the bumper. Instead I raised the unit up, marked the valence, and then trimmed it up to the first crease. Worked perfectly. Additionally, unlike the Curt hitch, the Drawtite has no impact on ground clearance or approach angle. Couldnt be happier. 362990

2012 Ford F-350 Super Duty

As usual with an Etrailer order, shipping was free and fast. I had the product in hand 2 days after ordering. I ordered the 2 wheel drive front mount hitch 65049 for a 2012 Ford F350 dually. Installation was pretty straight forward with only one minor glitch. I did the install alone, using a floor jack. Possible, but I would urge you to get a buddy to help. I believe installation would be smoother, quicker and easier with a buddy to help. My truck has a stabilizer bar which required that the hitch be tilted up into position. The plastic air dam would not allow me to tilt the hitch enough to clear the stabilizer bar. Believing the web site (and foolishly not measuring) that said the air dam didn't need trimmed on a 2 wheel drive, I removed the air dam with the intent of replacing it after install. Once I had the air dam out of the way, the install was relatively painless. The hitch fit perfectly, the front bolts are a bit of a challenge because you're working in a very restricted space. The rear bolts are a piece of cake. The little "fishing" wire they include works perfectly. After finishing the install, I went to replace the air dam and discovered it needed a small notch cut out of the bottom. Not much, probably about an inch and a half, the width of the receiver, but I maybe would not have had to remove the air dam had I known this going in. So, in summary. Excellent product, install is pretty easy, If you have a 2012 F350 Dually, you're going to have to notch your plastic air dam. 148239

I bought this front hitch receiver because I have a 35' trailer that I had to back into a very narrow space. Attaching the trailer to the front of the vehicle puts the steering wheels at the pivot point makes maneuvering the trailer MUCH easier! It also places the driver facing the direction of travel instead of looking in mirrors or over the shoulder while backing. I found this front hitch receiver to be a high quality, well built product. When I first attempted to install it on my 2016 Ford F-350, I found that there was a 3/8" gap (total for both sides) between the receiver brackets and the vehicle frame. I called etrailer and was told that it was acceptable to use washers to take up that space. I installed one 1/8" thick washer for the front holes and two for the rear. Installing the bolts in this thing was difficult enough. Trying to slide washers into the tiny space between the brackets and the frame seemed impossible. After some thought, I made an exact duplicate of the brackets from sheet aluminum. I applied packing tape between the steel, the aluminum and the washers to prevent dissimilar metal corrosion. I then used the same packing tape to attach the sheet aluminum and washers to the brackets with all the holes lined up. It went in like a dream, no holding, fumbling, wrestling and dropping parts. Installation of the bolts presented their own problems. I found that it was near impossible to fish the lead wire for the rear bolt through the front of the frame to the bolt hole. So, I fished hanger wire through the bolt hole out the front of the frame. I twisted a loop at the end of the lead wire and pulled it, and the bolt, through easily. Photos are attached. 635945

As advertised easy to install its a bonus to have a front hitch Pushing my trailers into tight spots is a breeze now only wish they had a larger receiver for the bigger trailers on a one ton truck as an option. I have to have two different inserts now minor issue 634089

I purchased this item online. The experience was good from start to finish. Order was easy to make and arrived at my door in about three days to my part of Canada. Cost delivered with the exchange rate was still 30% less than purchase would have cost at a local off road supplier. The quality and finish of the product is good and has resisted our corrosive winter driving conditions. It looks a lot better mounted below the fender than a friends unit on another F350 that is cut through the top of his fender. I have since wired the truck for an 11,500 pound receiver winch. We have used it to pull firewood logs out of the bush and as security option with the winch up front for access to a remote Lake property and Hunting Areas. We will wire in a battery at the tailgate so the winch can be installed at the back of the truck. A safer place to pull wood from. I will install one on my next truck. Mike M. 625550

Install took about an hour. I cut the air dam down in front with a dremel and then put weather mouldings around it to give it a finished appearance. A floor jack made this a pretty painless one man job. I will use it for moving a boat around and for the occasional recovery point. The instructions are easy to follow. 617643

Hitch should be shipped with 2 wire bolt threaders instead of one. Hitch is about 1/2 inch too wide for my 2014 Ford F-350 single rear axle. I may go back and add some washers. About 3 hr install with all the tools. The 18 mm bolt is a oddball size. Most wrench & socket sets don’t come with this size.” 615545

Comments

According to the hitch manufacturers, its perfectly acceptable to use washers to take up the extra space between the hitch and the frame member.

I bought this product to allow me to add a canoe rack to the front of my F350 when towing the 5 th wheel. The hitch is great and solved my problem easily. The installation is fool proof and can be done with limited experience and tools. Highly recommend the hitch for front mount accessories. 604411

etrailer is great! fast shipping, item arrived packaged very well. The item itself is a great front hitch. Installation took about 2 hrs by myself and the instructions were decent. etrailer also has videos of the instal that i watched prior to purchasing which helped me make an informed decision. 598190

The hitch came quickly and wrapped up nicely. The hitch along with the hardware are all high end and work together perfectly. Installation took around an hour with standard hand tools and help from a friend holding it place as you slide the bolts through the truck frame. No drilling was required and everything lined up perfectly. I would highly suggest the hitch and plan on using mine for my spare tire when traveling with my camper. 596881

This is not only a product review but also a review for ETrailer. The Draw Tite hitch was shipped and received extremely fast, especially considering we’re in the middle of winter. The hitch itself fit perfectly on my Ford F-250 and mounted easily after watching the short video that ETrailer provides for customers. Thanks ETrailer 596304

Good quality product, took about 2 hours by myself to install with the truck on the ground. Corners of the hole in the wind dam were drilled (5/8") first then cut out. I finished the opening with edge tape bought online. Came out looking factory installed 589769

2013 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

For the money, not a bad buy. Looks good when completed. However, the instructions and video made it look much easier to install that it actually was on my 2013 Ford F-350 Lariat. The nuts and bolts, both to remove and to install, were difficult to access without small nimble hands and specialized tools. However, I installed it completely by myself with the help of a floor jack and ratcheting wrenches in about five or six hours. My air tools wouldn't get into the tight locations. Maybe it was some of the options associated with the Lariat package that made it not so much like the video... 586121

  • Front Hitch and Mount Recommendation for 2016 Ford F-450
  • For a front hitch confirmed as a fit for your 2016 Ford F-450 we have the Draw Tite part # 65049 which will work great as a way to mount your front hitch. Once installed the winch mount part # BDW20155 that you referenced would fit and work well to carry a Bulldog Winch like the 12k Standard Series # BDW10043.

  • How to Carry Kayaks on Roof of 2012 Ford F-250 Crew Cab While Towing Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • I think you have the right idea using a front mount hitch and the Erickson Big Bed Load Extender # EM07600-07601 on the front of your 2012 Ford F-250 Crew Cab. For a front mount hitch I suggest using the Draw-Tite # 65049. The hitch has a vertical load capacity of 500 pounds which will be plenty for your kayaks. I've attached an install video for you too. For a single crossbar roof rack you can use the Rhino-Rack Vortex consisting of: 59 inch Vortex Aero Crossbar # RRVA150B 2500...

  • Front Mount Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2013 Ford F-250
  • The front mount hitch receiver I recommend for your 2013 Ford F-250 is the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # 65049 because it is a bolt-on installation that does not require any drilling into your truck's frame and Draw-Tite's strong reputation for making high-quality trailer hitches. This hitch has a 2" receiver and will work great as a way for you to use a bike rack while you are towing your 5th wheel. I have added a link to an install of this hitch on a F-250 for you to...

  • Recommended Front Hitch Receiver for 2011 Four Winds Chateau on Ford E-450 Cutaway Chassis
  • For your 2011 Ford E-450 Cutaway RV frame the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 65053 is the correct front mounted hitch. This is a simple bolt on assembly that is estimated to take about 1-1/2 hours to complete. It does require trimming of an underbody panel in a couple of places which is part of that time estimate. I've attached the installation instructions and a video to assist. The # 65049 you asked from will not fit your motorhome.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for the Front of an A-Frame Trailer
  • First you will need a receiver on the front of the trailer if you want to use a hitch bike rack. We actually have the Bike Bunk # CC-275 but it is limited to 100 pounds total weight. Otherwise what I recommend is to use # D210 which has a receiver and ball mount platform allowing you to tow the trailer and carrier a bike rack with bikes. We also have some towing bike racks # S64675 and # S63390 you might be interested in. If you keep the bikes on the tow vehicle then you will not be...

  • Front Mount Trailer Hitch for 2016 Ford E-350 Cutaway Passenger Bus
  • We do have a solution for you but the Draw-Tite # 65049 is not a fit for a 2016 Ford E-350 van, it fits certain models of F-Series Super Duty trucks and cab and chassis. It sounds like you have the 2016 Ford E-350 Super Duty Cutaway chassis which has been turned into a passenger bus, which you can confirm either through the paperwork you have or by calling your local Ford dealer with your VIN. If this is indeed what you have there is a custom-fit front-mount trailer hitch, the Draw-Tite...

  • Front Mount Hitch Receiver for a 2015 Ford F-350 4x4
  • There are bound to be some slight differences amongst the year vehicles that Curt front receiver # C31018 fits. The truck in the video, linked for reference, is a 2012 so there have been some design changes between then and the 2015 models. But the hitch does fit the 2015 Ford F-350 4x4s. Another option is Draw-Tite hitch # 65049. It has a different design than the Curt hitch. • Front Hitch Comparison for a 2016 Ford F-250 4x4
  • We have two options for front hitches for your 2016 Ford F-250 4x4, but I think the best is the Draw Tite part # 65049 as it has the best price by a large margin and has a much better price than the Curt competitor part # C31018. The only advantage the Curt has is that you can flip the cross tube around so that you can have the hitch opening up higher or down lower. The Draw Tite keeps the hitch opening low. I have included links to the installation details and a video showing a typical installation for reference. • Front Mount Hitch and Motorcycle Carrier for a 2008 Ford F-350 4WD
  • For a front hitch for your 2008 Ford F-350 the Draw Tite hitch part # 65049 that you referenced has been confirmed as a fit and would work well for you. To carry a 350 lb motorcycle would only require a carrier designed for the weight of it. The # UF48-979033 would be a great option for this as it is small, lightweight, and has a 400 lb capacity. You would need to be aware that your motorcycle is potentially going to block air flow to the radiator and block headlights.

  • Front Mount Hitch Receiver for a 2015 Ford F-350 with Snow Plow
  • Front mount receiver # 65022 is not a fit for your 2015 Ford F-350. I have listed # 65049 for 2- or 4-wheel drive models or # C31018 for 4-wheel drive models only. The only issue that you might run into is interference between the plow and the front mount hitch. The front mount hitch bolts to the truck frame, see the video I have linked. If the plow is attached in the same way then the hitch cannot be installed.

  • Is Bumper Trimming Required to Install a Front Mount Receiver on a 2015 Ford F-250
