Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2024 Honda CR-V

Just got done installing on my 2024 CRV AWD Sport Hybrid with no handsfree sensor. It was fairly easy to do thanks to the video. Can be done by one person up until when you put the trailer hitch on to screw in the nuts then you need someone's help to hold it into place.

It sits very flush behind the bumper. Trimming the fascia and back cover wasn't too hard at all. Overall I'm impressed and happy with the quality and easy installation.

Still working out great and as sturdy as day 1! Really high quality stuff. Glad I went with this trailer hitch receiver instead of the U haul one.

The hitch mounted well. On-line instructions worked well so it was rated 5 star.
It was a little tough because of removing the exhaust hangers, but it was well documented. (See pictures involving two people to hold, plus work bolt installation, etc. :-))

(This is our 5th purchase of a Draw-Tite Hitch Receiver for our various cars so we applaud your offering!!)

That is great to hear and it looks really nice on your vehicle. I am glad the install went well, but I do agree there could be some better templates. What are you planning to use this hitch for?

by:

I have bought from etrailer a number of times over the years and the service and products are very good. No complaints. The current hitch on my 2026 Honda CRV Hybrid fits well however there were a couple of items strapped to the inside of the bottom bumper cover that had to also be negotiated, making the install a bit more complicated then usual. I did manage to get it done, and it looks fantastic.

Fits 2024 Honda CRV Hybrid and is solid built. Will be using it to tow bike racks and the occasional aluminum hitch carrier and maybe the occasional Uhaul trailer. Ordered the wrong one initially and the CRV Hybrid has a different underside than the non hybrid version so you must order the correct tow hitch or it wIll NOT fit because of the location of the hybrid battery housing on the underside. Call support if any questions to avoid the headache I got when I learned it wouldn't fit. Etrailer support was fantastic with helping me get the right one. Thank you!

2026 Honda CR-V

Hitch well protected by shipping box and cardboard supports for those of you worried about shipping damage. DT79MR Draw-Tite Max-Frame on Honda CR-V Hybrid 2WD Sport L no back hatch foot sensor. Printed installation instructions were not for this part number. Graphic on tow hook mounting misleading as spacer goes on carriage bolt side not the nut side of hook. There also is a driver side sensor clipped into rectangular hole in rear framing right in front of hitch cross bar. It hangs low enough to impede installation of that side's bracket. Must be relocated. Unless one plans to remount center splash guard cowling before installing tow hook bolt, splash guard needs to be trimmed around hook opening.

Ramps provided adequate space and actually worked better for one man install. Had bungee cords prepped on either side, and using knees and hands to get over muffler and inside bumper allowed me to "hang" hitch close enough to get tow hook bolt in and then bracket washers and nuts. Longer carriage bolts would have been a plus as I had to use floor jack to gain enough thread to start nut. Receiver is indeed 11.5" above grade, but plan on encountering at least one parking lot/driveway entrance that will scrape up the bottom.

Nice thing about Sport L trim is roof rails, so with Class 3 hitch 525# tongue rating, leaves lots of combos for bike/kayak/cargo/<1000# tow. With rear seats down, leaves interior free for 100# Labramute to spread eagle on bed. Another hour of one-man installation time worth the effort. Pictures later.

The hitch is robust and well designed. I would rate it as a 5. Installation on my 2025 Hybrid was difficult. The instructions are minimal, and the one illustration is for a non-hybrid model. etrailer also sells an identical model from Curt, and offers a much more complete set of install instructions, with color illustrations. My 2025 hybrid has a two piece lower plastic fascia panel which required disconnecting it from the end fittings that the exhaust tips go through, with one person forcefully pulling the fascia away from the body, and another using a floor jack to force the hitch cross bar up into the space above the fascia, being careful not to bend or break the two installation tabs projecting from the fascia, and the two metal brackets that the fascia attaches to.

I'm severely knocking this hitch down to two stars

It came very flexed as etrailer explains in reviews but not on sales page. It should come with a warning like the cigarettes do that this will damage your lungs and that this will damage your expectations of getting a properly un flexed unbent hinge

So if you're reading this expect a bent hinge otherwise you'll be bent emotionally because it ain't ever gonna come properly aligned

Had I not already looked through the reviews and saw the complaints about the hitches being flexed I would've been extremely ticked off upset and lost my mind

My friend who is helping me with the install called it a piece of junk and told me to return it but he didn't understand about the flex issue

Because the information only shows how to stretch it out and doesn't give the measurements when it's properly aligned made putting it on and taking it off a hokey pokey afternoon

So it should've been at a 45 minute install that easy became a 3 1/2 hours to make sure that we weren’t over inflexing or end up causing future issues

I think if people saw the truth of how flex these things come and understand is your responsibility to unflex the Hitch

people would either not buy it and go to the local U-Haul or pay a max fee of $99-$129 knowing that they're going to have to put some serious work to make sure it gets unflex and aligned properly

Overall I was able to finally get it on and torque it to specifications
Also you'll need a very short torque wrench to get up underneath the Honda CRV as the exhaust system does not drop very far

Once it's on it does look very nice but again you're gonna have to do a lot of work and you won't be able to return it without having shown an proved that you tried your best

The kicker is my box also came with very minimal damage so not sure why this keeps being an issue as others have reported as well

Oh and save yourself a headache make sure you pay attention to the washers as there are four for the smaller bolts and one only for the larger one.

Otherwise watch the install video they have or go over to U-Haul and watch their installation video that's the one I ended up mentally rehearsing and it made it easy to pop on and pop off

Best of luck and see y'all on the road

2020 Honda CR-V

Super easy to install, for this hitch it says cut a 3x3 slot for clearance (you'll see it in the instructions). I would make it more like 3 3/4 inches wide for easier fit. But didn't even jack it up, used jack stands to hold it up for me once in place.

by:

Installed the Class III Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch on a 2020 Honda CRV. It was initially a bit frustrating to install because the distal holes were too close together. It was either not made to specs or had been dropped during manufacture. I had to place a hydraulic jack between the flanges and spread them apart an additional 1/4" more. Fit perfectly after that. As expected, the hitch partially blocks the foot-opener sensor for the rear hatch, so it takes 5 or 6 tries.

by:

Thanks to the video on the etrailer website the hitch was easy to install and after a year it has held up extremely well!

by:
2023 Honda CR-V

The instructions were a little vague, but I was able to get the hitch on fairly easily by my self. The 3 inch cut-out was not large enough. Had to make it a little wider to fit the hitch on.

by:
ford Edge

Product is very good quality and I recommend purchasing it, however the person who made your video for installation in a 2025 Honda CR-V gave some bad information. He said to trim the bumper cover up 1 3/8” from the bottom edge, when it’s supposed to be up 3” per manufacturer instructions….1 3/8” causes the bumper cover to bow out excessively and retainer holes won’t line up with the splash guard. He installed the spacer on the wrong side of the factory loop for the center bolt by the receiver. It should be on the same side as the bolt head since the spacer has a square carriage cut to keep the bolt from spinning when it’s tightened. He trimmed lot more plastic off the splash guard than necessary to fit around the hitch receiver. His video is misleading, especially for a ‘beginner’. It should be remade by someone who knows what they’re doing.

We have had this hitch for a year now and I am glad to have it! Our son attached the hitch to my Honda CRV. It is only used to take the trash can down to the road and back. Since my son installed the hitch I can’t speak of the ease of installation but I don’t recall him having major problems with it. There was a cover underneath the car that couldn’t be replaced but would not be detrimental in leaving off.

Overall structure was good, very robust, but I had to paint multiple spots where coating was worn off. I almost considered sending it back because I was worried maybe I got a used one. I sprayed with Rustoleum and mounted it. Fit well, paired it with a Yakima Stage 2 and it works. I have a 2025 Honda CR-V Sport L Hybrid AWD.

by:
2023 Honda CR-V

Fantastic product; great fit, great quality build, reasonable price, and good instructions for installation. The only reason I’m rating it 4 stars instead of 5 is the product finish (black powder coating) was chipped and scraped off in two locations, presumably due to poor packaging at high pressure points. These locations are hidden and I don’t live in a particular wet or salty (I.e. corrosive) environment, so I decided to just let it be, but these will contribute to faster wear.

Otherwise a wonderful product.

Excellent, sturdy, well-built hitch. Installation is not complicated, but it is challenging without a lift and two people. I put the rear tires up on ramps, which helped a lot. The installation video on the website is excellent, even essential, since the supplied written instructions are minimal. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I received only 3 feeder wires when 4 are needed. Yet once installed, the hitch feels solid, strong, and looks good!!

by:

Fit was perfect on my 2024 Honda CRV. Only gave a 4 star rating due to it having a large scuff/scratch on top. Of course the scratch is on the only visible part of the hitch.

Took me 1.5 hours to install, and the online video helps a lot. Tricky part is maneuvering the hitch into place, but if you temp connect the center part first, it helps. bent a couple of skid plate tabs (they hold the plastic connectors) but they bend right back. Overall, pretty easy.
