Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

To start, I think the hitch is excellent! Well made & solid. Install directions in the install video are clear, and the little whips included in the kit to run the bolts and washers through frame are a GREAT help. I did the whole install by myself, although I would HIGHLY recommend having a second set of hands! I muddled through with the help of a floor jack/jackstands and a block of wood to hold up the muffler, with a scissor jack for fine positioning of the exhaust pipes to get the rubber hangers on and off. You WILL need lube for those! I pretty much just followed the video, but there are a couple things to take note of:

1. There is a weld point covered in putty adjacent to where the back of the hinge is bolted. depending on how much is there you may have to scrape some off for the mount to set in properly. (see pic)
2. The mounting bolt on the passenger side next to the bumper is hard to get to, as you see in the install video. You absolutely WILL need a swivel joint, and it is still difficult to get at especially if you want to torque it properly. The bolt is rather long, and I strongly suggest you use 3/8 in drives and extensions, with 6 point 11/16" impact sockets. Get shallow, deep and ESPECIALLY a semi-deep socket for that passenger bolt. I didn't have a semi deep, and ended up cutting about 3/16" off that bolt with a multitool once it was installed so I could tighten it down properly. Deep socket wouldn't fit in the angle, and shallow wouldn't reach the nut!..lol.
3. Using a universal joint when tightening a nut effects the torque. You will have LOWER actual torque than the reading that you set it to, IF you are using a swivel or universal. Here is a good video on how to compensate: https://youtu.be/pl7O7r7Rab0?si=bvCOuvPqNR_kysK9

Finally, I'd like to thank the people at etrailer for responding so quickly to a couple issues I had with my order. They straitened it out and made sure I was happy. Thanks y'all! Would definitely order from these people again.

Easy install on a 2024 Crosstrek.

by:
2018 Subaru Crosstrek

The hitch is great, and the installation video is very helpful.
The hitch came pretty well packaged but still had shifted and broken through the box in some places causing some paint chipping on the edge of some of the flat metal brackets.
I was installing on a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. I removed the muffler to install the hitch. Wish I'd lubricated the rubber hangers to help slip them off of the muffler, but I overlooked that recommendation in the video.
You definitely need a universal joint on the socket to get at the rear passenger-side nut with a torque wrench.
If you remove the muffler and don't want to use the old bolts and nuts to reinstall it, make sure you have the new bolts and nuts before you start. They were surprisingly not in stock at any of the local dealers.
Overall, I'm really happy with it, and etrailer has been very communicative.

One of the easiest hitches to install…and I’ve installed a lot of them! The bolt wires are genius! Price was good!

by:
Subaru XV Crosstrek

I'm very pleased with the product, it fit my Crosstrek perfectly (no need to drill holes in frame), was reasonably easy to install, was priced fairly and was delivered in reasonable time.

by:
2024 Subaru Crosstrek

I only received the Trailer Hitch last night and won't install it until Sunday, but I can already tell that the assembly is about five times as tough as the Subaru version. I'm no wrench, but I watched the video on how to install it and it's within my capabilities (video says 40 minutes so I'll plan on three hours.)

by:
2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Your installation videos sold me on your product, but the actual installation went even easier than I envisioned. The Draw-Tight trailer hitch worked perfectly for my vehicle.

And after paying for trailer hitches to be installed for many vehicles, this is the first time I installed one myself and saved a significant amount doing so. For anyone with basic mechanical skills, a torque wrench and a basic socket set I highly recommend your company and the hitch and wiring harness I installed.

Quite pleased with hitch, perfect for my Crosstrek.

This hitch is very well made, very solid, and capable of towing more than my car will handle. So far, though, I have only used it to hold a bike rack, which is my primary reason for buying this rack. I no longer need to lift bikes to the rooftop. I like that it also will accept 1/2 inch and 5/8inch hitch pins. After a year, it does have a couple rust spots underneath on some sharp angles where the paint has flaked off.

Solid hitch. Ive used it so far only to attach my Kuat bike rack. I did take the bikes up some rugged 4WD roads and it was very tight. Kept the bikes from moving around at all. Quite pleased so far. Should have ordered the wiring harness when I ordered the hitch.

The wiring harness I recommend for the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is Tekonsha 4-pole flat part # 118467. The Tekonsha brand has a reliable reputation and the converter boxes seem to last longer compared to other brands.

After shopping around went with the Draw-Tite hitch based on reviews and great price from etrailer.com. Hitch arrived earlier than estimated and installation was simple with the provided instructions. The installation videos were key in making the install go smoothly with a couple tips that came in handy. Couldn't be happier with the finished product which is providing more than enough support/security for a 2" Yakima Holdup bike rack

Very nice quality hitch and wiring harness. 24 Subaru Crosstrek. Easy half hour install on the hitch and 10 minute plug and play on the trailer harness. Very helpful folks at etrailer and super fast shipping

Works great, looks good. I installed it myself with the use of a floor jack to hold most of the weight up while I fiddled with the mounting hardware. I've only used it for light duty operations on my 2019 Crosstrek - bike carrier, cargo carrier and truck bed extender used vertically to hold the back of a long kayak. 1 year later hardware is still tight and no rust. 5 stars.

Still great. No issues at all.

Great hitch, about two hours start to finish. The hitch is very strong but the car is not. DO NOT TRY TO PULL ANYTHING!!! Great as a bicycle or cargo rack receiver but again this is not the vehicle to use for towing anything as the unibody frame the hitch bolts up to is very thin and I fear it will just break free if you stress it to much. Again a great hitch if you are not going to pull a trailer. Only used a handful of wrenches 14mm X 2 and 11/16" for the main bolts. I removed the muffler altogether rather than do it the way shown in the video of lowering it on a ratchet strap. Only two bolts and three rubber hangers. I did not use ant type of lube on the rubber muffler hangers as oil and rubber are not a good mix. With just a little effort the muffler came loose. The other thing that makes this hitch stand out from the other options is that you do not have to drill or enlarge any of the original holes in the cars frame. VERY GOOD FOR A BICYCLE OR CARGO RACK BUT DO NOT TRY TO PULL ANYTHING BUT A VERY LIGHT TRAILER!!!! THE CAR IS NOT MADE FOR IT.

According to Subaru, the Crosstrek has a 1500 lb towing capacity. Although the hitch has a higher capacity, youll be limited to the capacity of the lowest rated component which is the vehicle in this case.

Installed the hitch in just under an hour. Went on just as the instructions said it would. Everything from the ease of ordering, to the on time delivery to the videos and instructions was great. Would guy recommend etrailer!

Subaru XV Crosstrek

2024 Crosstrek - installed the hitch today, about an hour ten minutes, taking my time. Since I was installing alone I opted to remove the muffler (4 minutes) for less interference during the install. I positioned the hitch under the vehicle and used some rope then lifted and tied off the hitch to the muffler supports so I didn't have to struggle with the weight when I positioned the hitch to accept the bolts. This is my second Draw-Tite hitch, they seem to be build very well.

by:

Easy to install. On our 2024 Crostrek Wilderness. The top of the receiver is at 15” might be helpful for determining drop or lift of ball.

Installed it on my 2019 Impreza and it looks great took me 1hour to install. If I have the proper tools probably take me 20 min. I did not have to shave the hole to make it bigger to install the mounts...great hitch!!!!

I would not recommend this hitch for impreza. The hitch is to low and if you hit a small bump it bottoms out and hits the bump. Another thing if you use a bike rack the angle of the hits makes it even lower when you get in parking lots that is angled you will bottom out. For impreza owners I would not recommend it. Its been a year for me and I removed my bike rack because I cant use it because it is to low. I wish the sales rep when I talked to him would have recommend another 2” rack than this one.

by:

We love our hitch! We had it installed a year ago and have been using it ever since. No issues so far. Works perfectly with our 2018 Subaru Impreza. Drove a bike cross country using it.

One year review , first thanks etrailer. for Followup regarding product purchased from you and to follow up a whole year after purchase is amazing to me.. it shows that you care about the products you sell ! The draw tite hitch I Installed on my Subaru crosstrek has performed as intended : from pulling my boat , to pulling logs to be cut into firewood , to pulling log splitter around , to pulling a buddies truck out of a ditch lol ..I also want to point out in NY winter roads are heavily salted to remove snow and ice and cars and trucks rust away and this hitch has yet to show any signs of rust.. thanks again for asking .. hope this review helps

2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Overall I've been exceedingly happy with this hitch from start to finish. This is the first hitch that I've even installed and the video tutorials and instructions from etrailer were super-helpful. A couple of notes: The box that it was shipped in was pretty mangled when it arrived, which was noted in a couple of reviews, and there was some chipped paint here and there but nothing substantial. I actually appreciate not having to sift through a ton of Styrofoam and cardboard packing material and as the hitch is heavy gauge steel a few scuffs aren't going to do anything. The other thing is the install process - it's straightforward but the thing is a bad combination of awkward and heavy so having a second person is a must. Having a hydraulic lift would also be helpful, but even with jack-stands it was definitely doable. Total time was right around 2 hours, which is what I figured, with me by myself except for a few minutes of my wife holding one end of it while I got the bolts tightened. We've used it a handful of times so far and it's worked flawlessly. Very happy with this purchase!

by:

Ordering and shipping was So fast that within 5 minutes it was packed for shipment. The little coiled wires to use as bolt pulls ingenious but could t figure out how to untangle them from one another. Despite this very easy to use. Can’t beat a four bolt installation. Only tool I didn’t have was the muffler hanger release tool. But has almost the whole thing installed within. 15 min.

by:

Excellent customer service. I recommend watching the video before installing the hitch. Definitely lower the muffler and have a helper hold the hitch in place while you thread the hardware.

When purchased 1/2/23 had delivery date of Friday 1/6/23 which would have given me weekend to install or so was initial plan. When looked at ettailer order 1/6/23 in am to see where and when to expect delivery date was changed to 1/10/23 . Last correspondence from ups hitch departed Utah 1/4/23 at 2:30am then no availability of being scanned in ups system until 1/8/23 Syracuse 7:32am then delivery 1/9/23 placed on front porch in front of door so couldn’t open door. Thanks ups .. hitch was protruding from box in multiple locations and could see tears in box from hitch pushing through box in multiple locations .Packaging obviously not able to handle delivery method. Multiple areas of bare metal from contact in some spots the 1/4” steal looks as if a grinder was taken to it maybe from being slid or dragged across concrete. Here in NY state salt is used on roads in winter and would have hoped the painted hitch would have lasted longer than a month in NY before it will begin to rust. If you look in your records this is the third hitch purchased in the last 6 years do to trading in of past vehicles. Each were shipped to residence and this is the worst yet. I understand you can not control the handling of package during shipment but maybe a rubber or plastic piece could be tapped to hitch on specific points of concern for shipment. Obviously this could not be the only time this has happened where the hitch was falling out of the box it was shipped in and causing damage to hitch. E trailer needs to ship in a better stronger box or give protection to areas of concern.

by:

Product is great. The shipping did NOT handle the package well. Came to my front door step half way out of the box. Would recommend looking at different delivery options...

  • What is the Best Hitch for a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek?
The best hitch for a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is the etrailer item # e98912. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Subaru with included hardware. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It has a 3,500 lbs towing capacity and a 525 lbs maximum tongue weight. The reason this is the best hitch is because the crosstube mounts completely behind the rear bumper. This leaves only the 2" receiver visible. Not only does this help with ground clearance but it also looks much better. On top...

Instead, I recommend the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch item # 306-X7350. This hitch is also confirmed to fit your 2018 Subaru Impreza. The reason the EcoHitch is a better option is that the main crosstube mounts behind the rear bumper cover instead of below it. This puts the bottom of the 2" receiver 11" above the ground. The Draw-Tite # 76209 fits all models of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, including the Wilderness. If you have the hybrid then this hitch is the best and only choice. If you do not have a hybrid then I recommend the etrailer # e98912 instead. Unlike the Draw-Tite hitch, the etrailer hitch has a concealed cross tube so it has a cleaner look and gives you better clearance. I see you also looked at trailer wiring. • Will There be Ground Clearance Issues with Installing Draw Tite Hitch 36644 on 2018 Subaru Impreza
We haven't had any ground clearance issues with any of the trailer hitches we offer for your 2018 Subaru Impreza including the Draw Tite part # 36644 that you mentioned. When we installed the 2 inch hitch part # 76209 on a 2018 Impreza like yours we found that it had 10 inches from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground when installed. So from the bottom of the smaller hitch size to the ground would be right at 8-1/2 inches. Which doesn't seem like a lot, but since the rear axle...

  • Will There be Ground Clearance Issues With The Draw-Tite Hitch 76209 on 2019 Subaru Impreza Wagon
We installed the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76209 on the a 2018 Subaru Impreza 5-Door Wagon and had 10 inches of clearance from the top of the hitch receiver to the ground. This is a pretty standard amount of ground clearance however it is a good idea to drive carefully when backing down a hill or other low ground clearance driving situations. If you are concerned with ground clearance because you have a steep driveway or in general, I recommend to get the EcoHitch...
