Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Draw-Tite Max Frame custom fit class 3 trailer hitch receiver. This is going to offer the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. The part number is 75866.Now here's what the hitch is going to look like installed on your Silverado. You can see it's going to be pretty visible as it comes across. We're also going to be adding a small rubber cap here to the step in the bumper. There's a main bolt that goes through here, gives us great support and great strength but they've cleaned it up by putting that on so it's just not a bolt head hanging out.

Now, of course the cross tube and everything you're going to see that there, got our bracket that comes down. Receiver tube opening here, nice rounded reinforcement collar on it. You can see it's going to be about an inch out past the end of the bumper. I don't think you're going to have big issues with running into it or anything like that. But definitely something to keep in mind.

You can see our safety chain connection points. Those really big hooks that you might be using here shouldn't any kind of an issue.Something to keep in mind though with our hitch since it does have the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, it makes it extremely versatile. This is going to work out really with bike racks, cargo carriers and things of that nature as well. Now this hitch will have two holes in it. The larger one located closer to the front of the vehicle, right up here, that's the only one you're ever going to use to secure any items in your hitch.

It's a five eights diameter pin hole. The only time you're going to use that smaller hole here in the rear would be with the J pin stabilization system which is just another form of an anti-rattle device. Now in this case, that device might work out pretty well. You can see we're kind of limited on the room we have in the back of the pin hole to the tube of the hitch. That will eliminate some of the anti-rattle devices out there on the market.Something else I really like about the hitch is that they've got a bracket welded on.

This is going to work out really well if you're adding an after market, let's say like a four pull would be able to mount that on there using part number 18144. If you're doing the standard seven pull, typically you're going to be using the knock out plug that you've got right here. For a seven pull mount, that probably isn't going to come in very handy. You're probably going to have it mounted right in here. Now the hitch is going to install really easily. There's not any drilling or any real modifications you'll have to make with the small exception of a cut out up here if yours doesn't have a plug already over it. That's going to be really the only difference. We've got four attachment points on the driver's side, four on the passenger and one here in the center. That gives us good weight ratings. We've got a nine hundred pound tongue weight rating, that's the maximum downward force we can put here at the receiver tube opening. We've got a six thousand pound gross trailer weight rating, that would be the total of your trailer and anything that you have loaded up on it.It is also rated for use with weight distribution. Now when using a weight distribution set up, the tongue weight rating it's going to go up to twelve hundred pounds and our gross trailer weight rating goes up to twelve thousand pounds. Of course, check the owner's manual on your Silverado to see what it's tow rating is and use whichever set of numbers is lower. Now a few measurements that you'll find helpful in selecting ball mounts, bike racks, or hitch cargo carriers would be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, we've got about nineteen and three-quarters of an inch. Then from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of our bumper, it's about one inch. Now to begin the installation of our hitch, we're going to need to remove two bolts that hold the bumper support here. They're kind of like your ball support here on the back. These bolts go through that bumper support bracket so we've got just a regular bolt here towards the rear of the truck. And we've got the larger one here, now you might need to put a socket on top of that if it starts to spin. For the nut and for the bolt we took out here, they're all twenty-one millimeter. Now the hardware that we removed here and here, we can set that aside. We won't be reusing it for the installation. The hitch is actually going to come with new hardware. Now we'll just come over here and do the same thing on our driver side. Now our hitch is going to have an attachment point right here in the middle of the bumper. Depending on your vehicle, it's kind of going to change what you'll have to do here. Some of them are going to have a cap, just pop that cap off and remove it. If like our situation here, yours doesn't have a cap, if you look closely at the bumper, you can see a little indention there. Now, you can cut that entire indention out but really we only need enough space for our conical tooth washer to sit down in there. I'm going to center that washer up inside of that. I'm just going to mark around it and cut along that line. Now we're going to take a razor knife or you could also use like a cut off wheel or something like that. You just want to trim that plastic portion out. We just want to make sure that our bolt will pass down through there and that conical tooth washer will sit squarely on top. Now for attaching our hitch, we're going to use the provided hex bolt, washer and lock washer in the rear hole but the three holes ahead of that, we need to place in one of our spacer blocks with our carriage bolt. Those are all three going to come down just like that. Now I'm only going to put one in at this time until we get our hitch in position. Sometimes you have to kind of slide it over this lip so having just one in there should allow us to do that and we'll get the rest of it in place. Now we'll just get the hitch lifted up into position. It's a good idea to have yourself an extra set of hands. Now onto our bolt, we're going to slide one of our conical tooth washers. You want the teeth of that washer to face up towards the hitch and we're also going to thread on one of our hex nuts. Once we have that started well, that will hold our hitch in position while get the other ones in place. Now our main bolt here in the middle, we're going to take our nylon lock nut. We want to place that up and on the bolt and then get them threaded together. Now this is going to go up into a pocket here. See how that nut is going to sit right down in there so we don't have to worry about a wrench of anything down here on the bottom. Makes it really nice that they've thought of that so we don't have to try to get a wrench in there which would be almost impossible. Now again, for our forward attachment points here, it's going to be the same hardware we used in the middle. We're going to have a square hold spacer block, carriage bolt, conical tooth washer and hex nut. Now, for the rear most attachment point, we're going to use hex bolt, the lock washer and flat washer on it and that will be threaded up into the weld nut. Now we'll go through and snug down all of our hardware. For the rear bolt, we're going to use a twenty-two millimeter socket. For the three ahead of it, we're going to use a nineteen.Do the same thing for our passenger side. Now we'll also snug down our center bolt here. You want to use your hand and just push up on your lock nut to make sure it stays engaged and then with an inch and eighth socket, we'll get it snugged down. Now that everything is snugged down we need to go back through and get it torqued down to the specifications. Those are listed in the instructions.See in the bottom of the rubber cap a hexagonal shape, that's going to go right down on top of our bolt. With everything torqued down properly, that's going to complete our installation of the Draw-Tite Max Frame custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 75866 on our 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

Got the hitch in one day (lucky enough to live near shipping point) and it fit just like it was suppose too. Would recommend getting help putting it on but a pair of jack stands work pretty good. Looks great on truck. Ready to go camping. 525847

This a review of the hardware and installation instructions not the performance or use of this hitch. I was missing hardware (2- 9/16" Lock washers). Installation instructions are not accurate and missing a few steps. Having to trim the bumper should be on the product page. Needing a knife as required equipment should be added to the instructions as well. I also found there to be another bolt and nut in the second hole of the frame that needed to removed as well. Overall I like the hitch but the parts(QA) and lack of proper instructions leave something to be desired. 133465

  • Does Top Center Bolt for Trailer Hitch 75866 have to Be Installed on a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500
  • If you do not install trailer hitch # 75866 according to the installation instructions and use the hitch then the warranty will be void, the capacity will be unknown, and the hitch won't be properly supported on the vehicle to reach its rated capacity rendering the actual capacity unknown. There should be a cap on the center step of the bumper on your 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 that you would just pry up to access the hole needed to mount the hitch at the center location.
