Features to know about

Solid Braking Setup for Small and Mid-Size Trailers: Fits 2,000-lb Axles

When you’re restoring or upgrading your trailer, this Dexter hub-and-drum assembly gives you the right foundation for safe, smooth stops. It’s built for 2,000-lb trailer axles with BTR spindles and works with 7" × 1-1/4" brake assemblies. The sturdy iron drum provides a clean braking surface while the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern and 1/2" wheel bolts keep things compatible with common 12" – 15" wheels. Each hub is rated at 1,000 lbs, making it a reliable match for light-duty trailers that still need dependable braking power.

Complete Hub Kit for Quick Replacement: Bearings, Seal, and Hardware Included

There’s no guessing what to order or hunting for extra parts. This assembly includes both inner and outer bearings (L44649), matching races (L44610), a 10-9 grease seal (1.500" ID × 1.987" OD), grease cap, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. Everything fits together as it should, so you can swap out an old or damaged hub and get back on the road without chasing separate components.

Built Tough for Everyday Use: Iron Construction and Precise Fitment

Dexter’s iron hub and drum are known for their strength and consistent machining. The solid construction helps resist heat and wear, and the precise bearing surfaces keep things running smooth mile after mile. Users have described these hubs as “solid, well built, perfect match,” a good sign for anyone looking for a direct-fit replacement that installs easily and performs like OEM.

Straightforward Installation and Long-Term Confidence: Designed for Electric Brakes

This hub is made specifically for electric brake setups, giving you the right clearances and surfaces for proper magnet and shoe contact. Once greased and torqued down to spec—75 to 85 ft-lbs for the 1/2" lug nuts—you’re ready to roll with a system that stops straight and stays quiet. It’s a simple, durable solution that restores your braking system to full strength and keeps your trailer tracking true.

Determining Bolt Pattern

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

If the wheel studs werent bent from hitting a pothole or road debris, Id recommend checking the loaded weight of the trailer to ensure the axle isnt overloaded.

by:

Brake Kit was easier to install than I anticipated!! Came with no instructions but etrailers videos were straight forward.

by:

I got a set for replacements for our teardrop trailer. They have done well and being of good quality I won't have any worries for our up coming 5ooo mile, 6 week trip.

by:

I have come to expect excellent service from etrailer, and this product and prompt service was no exception. I will probably never deal with another company for my trailer parts unless they don't carry what I'm looking for. Keep up the fine work and wonderful service!

by:

Ordered a hub for my Hoosier pontoon trailer. I have order from trailer in the past and am very satisfied with their customer service and quality products.

by:

Superb hub and an excellent replacement for my 1997 Coleman Fleetwood Bayports popup camper that I am close to finishing a restoration process on. They fit perfectly! Very happy to purchase an excellent product from the fastest shipper I have ever come across. I am blown away by the professionalism with this company!
Thanks

Great service by Tonya S, when sourcing my product, she was very knowledgeable and helpful with the products I was looking for. Pricing was great, delivery was ahead of schedule, tracking for the delivery was very detailed every step of the way. Thankyou Tonya, would not hesitate reusing etrailer, highly recommend them.

by:

This drum assembly was perfect for my trailer axle. It came with bearings and seals. The inner seal was damaged during shipping. I called etrailer and they sent me out a replacement in no time at all. Great customer and tech service!

by:

I submitted a review of this item via a prior purchase. When I purchase the first drum I mistakenly assumed I was getting two drums (similar to the 7" Brake Kit Item # 23-47-48 I purchased at the same time). This second review is because I had to buy a second drum separately after realizing my mistake. Note: I recognize this was my mistake - nothing against etrailer, who are and always have been awesome.

by:

Drum and brake arrived safe and sound, was well packed, and worked like a champ. I used the shotgun approach for a brake grabbing problem on the right side of my very small motorcycle camper trailer. I tried everything to fix it, needed quick repair to go on a trip, so ordered the whole thing (drum, brakes, bearings incl.).

Glad I did, as there is no more grabbing and overheated drum, AND better gas mileage.

I never found out for sure what the original problem was, but now suspect bearings since they appeared pretty sloppy in their housing. I assume the worn bearings caused the drum to move around on the spindle, causing grabbing from time to time.

by:

I used these Dexter hub/drum assemblies along with the etrailer branded 7" brake kit to add brakes to my 2015 TAG Max and I couldn't be happier with the performance. etrailer customer service rectified a small issue quickly and professionally. etrailer will be my first stop when looking for trailer supplies in the future.

by:

Great customer service and delivery. The hubs were exactly we expected and were easy to install and performed perfectly on an 11, 400 mile trip around the USA. I put the hubs w/brakes and controller on an Aspen "Classis" tent trailer being pulled behind a GL 1800 Honda Goldwing and loaded to the max. These products made for a much safer trip and greater peace of mind.

Thanks!

by:

etrailer products and service are excellent! With their helpful videos and staff (plus a little help from Curt Manufacturing and our teardrop trailer manufacturer (CampInn)) I was able to install electric brakes on the trailer, and a controller in my vehicle by myself. I had never installed electric brakes before. Everything works perfectly!

by:

I have received the product ordered, but have not installed. Parts received look to be the correct items. Due to bearing problems on our camper during a recent trip I need to replace the hub on one side and will replace the bearing on the opposite side.
Lisa was very helpful with the ordering process, made sure the parts were the correct items, and suggested ways in improve the ordering process. The parts were packaged properly and received without damage. She indicated the parts would be here at a certain time, and they were. The entire ordering process was seamless.
Now if I can just her to install the components, life would be good!

OEM quality and fast shipping Thanks.

etrailer shipped very fast and had great customer service! The only complaint I have is directed at Dexter for not securely packaging the heavy drums. During shipment two bearing caps and one bearing seal was damaged.

The staff at eTrailer.com are very helpful and knowledgeable - ask if you're unsure. I originally ordered through the Internet and received the wrong products - because I neglected to ask questions. The return went smooth, but I had to pay for it (my error). The next round arrived well packaged (externally), but there was thin packing tape all over the outside of the hubs and some on the inside rubbing surface of the hubs. It took some doing to get it all off. There was a little rust on the non-contact surfaces of the hub as well as on the brake housing. On the brake housing, you can see some rust in the pic. Looks like it may have been rebuilt. This doesn't seem to have any effect on its operation though. Seals, Races & Bearings are super clean and fit perfectly. I installed these brakes onto the existing '4.5 on 5' flange on a 2000 pound axle (on a 2004 Aliner LX Classic Pop-up trailer). It came with the bolts to attach to the flange, but be sure to order the adjuster grommets, lock washers and 7/16x20 fine thread nuts, since it doesn't come with them. Once I got the wiring set up properly, it works exactly as it should. I prewired the setup prior to delivery. My error was that I assumed the only wire I'd need to run was the blue (brake) wire, but there are two wires on the brake housing as you can see in the picture. Either one goes to the blue (doesn't matter which) and the other attaches to the neutral (white) wire that goes back through the trailer's main wiring harness. Simply attaching the wire to the trailer frame (ground) like I initially did as seen in the picture looked like a good clean setup and easy solution to my one-wire mistake. Unfortunately, it DID NOT WORK. The secondary (neutral) wire must be detected by the tow vehicle's brake controller. Plan ahead and buy the blue and white primary wires (20 feet of 14 or 16 gauge will work) and run them next to each other before hand. Be sure to house the wires in 'plastic split loom tubing' so they don't rub against anything and zip tie them to the frame, so they're not hanging or in the way of anything. Happy braking. :-)

by:

Very satisfied with the form, fit, and function of these drums. Very substantial, thicker material and larger overall surface areas as compared to my originals (see attached picture). The trade-off is that they weigh more - increasing dry weight on a small (Hélio O2) tear-drop trailer must be monitored, those added pounds take away from safe and prudent cargo carrying capacity.

These drums continue to perform flawlessly!

by:

Direct OEM replacement for my old worn one.
Includes
new bearings races and seal.
Races are pre-installed, but greasing new bearings and pressing the seal is left to the customer. So there is a little bit of work to do before the swap
