Adding Brakes to 1999 Jayco Heritage Glacier with Dexter 2,500 lb Axles

Updated 08/18/2025 | Published 10/16/2019

Question:

Howdy - hoping to find part numbers for wheel seals, bearings, and electric brake conversion kits that will fit my 1999 Jayco Heritage Glacier popup. The axle is marked 2500lb / Dexter P-12 SLR SN 3225916 / Jayco 206491-1 SN D3225916. Thanks in advance!

A Dexter 2,500 lb axle uses hubs that have inner and outer bearings of L44649 like the part # 8-257-5UC3 which has a 5 lug bolt pattern or the # 8-173-16UC3-EZ which has a 4 lug bolt pattern. These both come with bearings and seals as well.

For brake assemblies you'd want the part # 23-47 for the left hand side and # 23-48 for the right hand side and you'd be set. I attached a help article link on adding electric brakes to a trailer for you to check out as well that I think you'll find helpful.

Hello, Can you tell me what your part numbers are for replacing the surge brake drum kit & Hubs... Mine is a Torflex 5 on 4 1/2 and I'm just looking to replace the existing. Also does it come with the drum, or is it just the backing and brake parts? I'd want to do the whole thing. Thanks,

@HydrolicR Can you get me the axle capacity? With just that I would be able to let you know what parts you'd need.

@Aaron Is there any way you could pull a hub off and either get me the bearing numbers or the spindle diameter where the bearings ride? The 2500 lb axle sometimes uses the 3,500 lb or 2,200 lb brake components.
