Video Transcript for Optronics Camping Travel Trailer Stop Turn and Tail Light Installation

Today on our pop-up camper, we're going to be installing the Optronics Camping Travel Trailer Stop, Turn, and Tail Lights. We're using part numbers RVST50 and RVST51t. This weather and corrosion resistant incandescent light functions as a combination stop, turn, and tail light. RVST50, without the license plate bracket, is going to measure 8 5/8" wide, 4 5/8" tall, and 2 1/16" deep. The RVST51, which does come with the plastic bracket to mount your plate to directly beneath, is going to be slightly taller at 6 5/16". The clear window on the bottom, to illuminate our license plate that we have attached to the bracket, will help us stay in compliance with a lot of different state laws. We're going to start our installation here in the rear of the camper. As you can see, we've already removed our old light. We're going to be left with our ground wire, our running light wire, and our turn signal wire. Let's strip a little bit off of each one of these. To the end of each one, we're going to add one of our heat shrink butt connectors.

That's part number DW05744-10. That will give you a 10 pack of them, it will be more than enough. That will take care of that side. Now we can bring in our light. As you can see, it's going to have our green wire, the black wire will go to the brown, and the white wire's going to go to white wire, of course, the green wire goes to the green wire. These are all pre-stripped for us, so we can pull the ends off of there. I like to separate the lens at this point.

To that, you just press in on the tab that's here on the side, and then pull out on the lens. The reason I like to do that is because I don't want this to get scratched up while I'm working with it. Just set that aside. Now let's make our connections. Now we can use a heat gun, or a lighter, and just heat up our connectors here, and it will shrink down for us. Now we'll just tuck the wiring back up on the inside. Use a couple of screws.

Sometimes you can be able to save the hardware that's with your ones. In our case here today, we're just going to use a couple of self tapping screws. Then we'll bring our cover in. As you can see, t-o-p, it says there, and then there's also a top label on each side there, just to help you get it all together properly. All we've got to do is slide our cover on. All right, that side's done. Now, if you want to be extra cautious about sealing this up, a little bit of silicon caulk all the way around could do a great job of that. Now we're going to do the same thing here on the driver's side.

The only difference will be that our red wire is going to become the brown wire that we had on the other side. This is going to give us our running light circuit for the driver's side here. Then as far as the license plate goes, we've got tabs that we'll easily be able to mount to. Just like that. We're ready to head down the road. Now let's run through and test our lights, make sure they're functioning all right. For the left side, we're going to have our left brake signal, and also the left turn signal. Let's do the right side brake light, and now the right blinker. The next thing we're going to test will be our tail lights, so we should have a constant on signal from both the left and the right. With everything working properly, that's going to complete today's installation of the Optronics Camping Travel Trailer Stop, Turn, and Tail Lights. Part numbers RVST50 and RVST51. .

I bought them to install on a friends travel trailer that hadnt been used in nearly 7 years. They are working fine and they have been going out RVing with their boys for the past year and having a ball.

The product is what I expected for the money. The license holder is typical plastic which is why I bought it new in the first place. They break off. I now have reinforced it with metal so I hopefully don't lose a license plate again. 568208

I use an LED bulb instead of the supplied incandescent one. Nice unit and does the job very well and less expensively than a dedicated LED unit! License plate bracket fits a standard license plate so it's a breeze to use! 208671

Still working and looking good. A bright, red LED is faster acting and brighter than an incandescent bulb, improving the safety for our 1976 Apache Royal. License plate is still highly visible.

I replaced the tail lights on my travel trailer with the Optronics Trailer Lights - RVST50 & RVST51 for half the price of other name brand lights. The installation was easy and the lights worked great. They are bright and easy to see, both day and night. My only complaint is that the lens cover may be a little too tight of a fit. I was afraid I was going to crack the lens pressing it onto the base but it snapped into place without any problem. I suppose that is a good thing after all. 211029

- RVST51
by:

I installed the light on a 1998 Palomino Pony pop-up camper. Works great! Also installed the RVST50 on the passenger side. I am not using the license plate holder on the RVST51, and didn't realize that I could have just ordered 2 of the RVST50's, and they would have worked fine on both sides. Since I am not using the license plate holder on the 51, I had to cover over the clear part of the lens, where it would have been used as a license plate light. I suppose I can always order a replacement lens cover, without the clear part, at some point. But the lights fit just where the old ones were, and were easy to hook up. 506665

The new light arrived promptly, (about 3 days from order), and matched the original perfectly. The tag bracket is more robust than the original, which leads me to believe it will last even longer than the factory assembly. I would recommend this product as a replacement to anyone, but would also recommend etrailer.com for any other trailer accessory purchase. 129892

My replacement tag bracket is still holding up strong even with all the elements that the Southeastern climate has to offer.

Exactly what I needed, I thought I might need to drill new holes, but it perfectly replaced the old light. The lens is, for the moment, soft enough that it doesn't feel like it's going to break when trying to get it apart, though a few years in the sun will change that I'm sure. That's what happened with the old ones, they finally just broke apart. The description doesn't say this, but they come pre-installed with light bulbs. For the price I hadn't expected this, so I had ordered LED 2057's elsewhere since I couldn't find them here. They look great. The bad news is they don't come with screws. I was able to re-use the screws from the old lights, but they were a little stripped (looks like somebody used a philips bit on a square-drive screw). I also cleaned the previous caulking and applied new -- it's there on other parts of my trailer, and I think it's a good idea. The one thing that stands out as obviously cheap is the *drivers side* version (part number RVSD51) has plastic tabs to hold the license plate. It turns out the light I replaced had the same plastic tabs, and the tabs had broken at some point and replaced with metal strips. This seemed like a good idea, the holes lined up with the license plate bolts and bottom screws behind the light, so my license plate is attached to both the plastic tabs and the metal strips. 523309

Right product, right price. Easy install, perfect fit. I got both left snd right tail lights, including shipping for less than a single light at Camper's Inn. The only suggestion I can make is they should include some form of soft gasket material to prevent water from getting behind the and possibly entering the hole in the trailer where the wires come through. I used a general purpose weather stripping putty for this purpose but a form fitting gasket would be a nice improvement. etrailer.com, I'll be Baaack. 142946

Product showed up in a reasonable time frame and worked perfect. It wasn't the right size but that's because I was lazy and didn't take the time to go measure so that was my fault, not etrailer.com but I was able to just drill a couple holes where I needed them and mounted it anyway and it works great. Price was great as well, I'll definitely include etrailer.com in my list of places to shop and price check for my RV needs. 134791

Unfortunately the initial shipment of this product arrived in a box that during shipment had been mistreated and somewhat crushed and the red lens had broken in shipment. I attempted to crazy glue the pieces together with no viable luck. Contacted eTrailer and once customer service saw photos and read my email it appears that they have replaced the entire light fixture apparently for free and I received the new unit Friday in a box very well packed and in perfect condition now ready to be installed. I thank eTrailer greatly for their rapid and gracious customer service and I will again purchase from them for my other RV needs in the future. Respectfully, Jim Watson-Los Angeles. 669843

I have a 2008 Keystone Hornet and the tabs for the license plate had broken off. I was concerned that I would not be able to match the right side light with a new one. • Differences Between Optronics # RVST51 and Bargman # 30-92-003 Trailer Taillight Assemblies
  • You're correct, other than the fact that the lamps come with bulbs that are slightly different (but interchangeable) and the # RVST51 is 1-3/4 inches taller, both lamps would install in the same manner. The running light filament of the 1157 bulb used by the Bargman # 30-92-003 lamp is just a few watts brighter. If you're replacing existing lamps on a camper, I'd choose the lamps that most closely match the size of the original lamps. The Optronics # RVST51 measures 8-5/8 wide x 6-5/16...

  • Replacement Taillight Assemblies with SAE-AILRST-94 DOT Markings on Lenses
  • It sounds like you're needing a Bargman 92/94 series taillight. The DOT number you provided usually doesn't steer us to a replacement lamp, the actual part number of your lamps should be printed or stamped on the lamp housings themselves, not the lens. However, this particular one has come up enough that we had record of it. For the driver's side (assuming you need the license plate bracket), use part # 30-92-003 and part # 30-92-001 for the passenger side. If your existing lamps have...

  • Replacement Trailer Taillights to Replace Peterson M457 on a 2005 Clamshell Trailer
  • We don't have the exact style you are looking for, but the part # RVST51 and # RVST50 would be a very similar replacement. We don't carry the Peterson M457 style taillights, but these are very similar with the only real difference being the shape of the lens.

  • Replacement Rear Stop/Turn/Tail/License Plate Combo Cake Light for 1968 Pathfinder Travel Trailer
  • Thank you for providing the photo of the 7-inch combination Stop/Turn/Tail/License Plate Combo Cake Light from your 1968 Pathfinder travel trailer. I was able to find photos and some comments on trailer owner forums regarding your 1968 Pathfinder trailer, but not any specific information regarding the manufacturer of the original light fixtures. Given the age of this venerable old trailer it is quite possible that the original manufacturer of the cake light is no longer in existence....

  • Compatibility of Optronics Lamp Part # RVST51 with 1995 235G Viking Pop Up Camper
  • I do not have any information about which OEM lights came on that camper. We do, however provide a full drawing of the lamp itself on the product description that shows the dimensions of the lamp and the center to center distance between the plate mounting holes. I have also provided a photo of the lamp showing these dimensions. Simply measure the existing lamp to see if the Optronics Camping Travel Trailer Lamp shares the same dimensions.

  • How to Install Optronics RV Tail Lights RVST50 and RVST51
  • The Optronics RV Tail Lights # RVST50 and # RVST51 are both 3-wire designs that have a white ground wire, a green wire for the tail/running lights and a black wire for the stop/turn light signals. Installation is shown in the linked video. Both lights use replacement bulb # 30-84-057. Since trailer wire colors are not always consistent, the best way to know how to connect the lights to any given trailer is to test the trailer wiring with a circuit tester like # 40376. You can also use...

  • Replacement Tail Lights For 1996 Keystone Cabana RV
  • The RV Tail Lights, part # RVST50 and part # RVST51 may work great on your 1996 Keystone. The only way to know for sure is to take some measurements of the lights you have mounted currently. These are a surface-mount 3-wire light that measures 8-5/8 inches long, 4-5/8 inches tall and 2-1/16 inches deep. The mounting holes have a center-to-center distance of 7-inches. These lights use replaceable bulb type 2057. The # RVST50 is designed for the passenger side and the # RVST51 is...

  • Replacement Passenger Side Tail Light For 1998 Jayco 8-Ft Tent Trailer
  • The part number you referenced is for the tail light lens you have on your Jayco trailer, but I may have a solution for you. From my research I found that some of the 1998 Jayco trailers had a tail light like part # RVST50. This is a rectangle light that has stop, turn, and tail light for the passenger side. I have attached a drawing of the light you can check out. The mounting holes on this light are 7inches center-to-center. This light is a direct replacement light for a Wesbar 3621...
