Features to know about

Keeps the Cab Clean: Hidden Under-Dash Mount

Bulky controllers can clutter the dash and hit your knees, but this one stays completely out of sight. The main unit—just 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick—mounts under the dash with an adhesive pad or zip ties. Only your smartphone is visible for control, keeping your interior clean and clear. The internal 3-axis accelerometer senses direction at any angle, so it works smoothly no matter how you mount it.

Curt Echo Under-Dash Bluetooth Brake Controller main module unit designed for hidden installation under vehicle dashboard.

Simplifies Setup: Plug-and-Play Harness Connection

Hardwiring isn’t needed thanks to the included custom-fit harness. It plugs directly into the factory port under the dash and connects straight to the Echo unit. Pair your phone via Bluetooth in about five seconds, plug in the trailer’s 7-way connector, and calibration finishes automatically. When the LED turns green, you’re ready to tow.

Brakes Smooth and Steady: Proportional Control with 3-Axis Accelerometer

The internal accelerometer measures how quickly your tow vehicle slows down and sends matching power to the trailer brakes. Whether tapping lightly or braking hard, everything stays in sync. The proportional system works with trailers up to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies) and supports electric trailer brakes for consistent, even stops.

Tows Smarter with Bluetooth: Control Everything from Your Phone

Instead of knobs or screens, you run it all through the OneControl app on your smart device (Apple 5.0 or newer, Android 4.3 or newer). Set max output, adjust sensitivity, and hit manual override right from your screen. The outer ring shows real-time brake output while you drive. You can even store multiple trailer profiles so your favorite settings are ready each time you hook up.

Built for Safety and Convenience: Diagnostics and Protection Built In

If Bluetooth ever disconnects, braking continues using the most recent settings—so safety isn’t interrupted. LED indicators on the unit make troubleshooting simple, while reverse polarity and short circuit protection guard against wiring faults. With its limited lifetime warranty on the controller and 1-year warranty on the harness, it’s built for reliable towing trip after trip.

Specs

Application

  • Application: trailers with 1 to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies)
  • Compatible with: electric trailer brakes

Dimensions

  • Main unit dimensions: 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick

Operating System Requirements

  • Manual Override: This big orange button in the middle of the app is your manual override. Press and hold the button, and the brake controller will smoothly apply the trailer brakes without applying your vehicle’s brakes.
  • Brake Output Indicator: The outer ring gives you a visual indicator of how much power is being applied to the trailer brakes. This is determined by your max output setting.
  • Max Output: Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer’s brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop.
  • Sensitivity Level: This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer’s braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the max output level.
  • Vehicle Hazard Lights: If you turn on your vehicle’s hazard lights, there’s a chance the trailer brakes will pulse on and off as the lights flash. Turn this setting on any time you activate your hazard lights to prevent this problem.

Warranty

  • Brake controller warranty: Limited lifetime
  • Wiring harness warranty: Limited 1-year

Note

  • If Bluetooth connection is lost: The brake controller will continue to function safely, using the most recently programmed settings. This brake controller is not compatible, but will not interfere, with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
  • If you don’t already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle: Take a look at our exclusive 7- and 4-way brake controller installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately).

What is Proportional Braking?

Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

Worked great. Helped me to trace down a wiring issue with my wiring on the truck and then worked perfectly and controlled some of the heavier loads and was easy to use.

by: Brent12/14/2022

Sherry was extremely friendly and very helpful when I had questions about the correct fit for my truck. She got me the information I needed and took my order and the parts shipped the same day. I was amazed at how fast I got my order.

by: Michael 09/30/2022

Easy to install once you dig out its connector from under the dash. H Ave the unit completely hidden.

by: Tony 01/19/2023

The brake controller video was very helpful. I made my choice, ordered it and received free of confusion. Thanks go to etrailer.

by: John 01/26/2022

Installed the controller under the dash out of the way. Downloading and setting up the app was easy. I have set a profile for my trailer loaded and empty. This is a nice feature.
The app stays open while driving, so the manual brake button is visible, and easy to access, if needed.

Product arrived as scheduled. Enjoyed the tracking access to follow the delivery. I have not had the opportunity to install but I am sure everything will go as planned because of the installation video.

Great product and easy installation. I actually installed in the small shelf right below the controls for the seats on my 13 Ram 1500 Longhorn. Looks very neat and functional. Quick shipping.

by: Jeremy A.03/20/2014

This is a DIRECT FIT for my 2014 Ram 1500!! I mounted the controller at the bottom of the center console and everything was perfect! The directions were easy to follow and the installation was a breeze!

by: David04/17/2024

The Curt Echo is now on my Nissan Armada and works perfectly. It was an easy hookup with the supplied harness and does its job.

Don’t even know it’s there, set it and forget it.

This is the old obsolete model of Curt Echo which has to be installed under the dashboard. The newer version, which attaches to the electrical system in the rear of the vehicle, is superior and now preferred by most trailer owners. The above version should be taken off the catalog.

by: JimB 08/26/2024

This is my first proportional brake controller. Stopping is much smoother without sacrificing safety. Communication by bluetooth makes for a clean installation.

by: Steve H.02/25/2022

This controller took me literally 15 minutes to install with the required pigtail and my Rubicon with factory towing package installed. When I initially downloaded the app and connected, it actuated and locked the brakes. I simple deleted the app and reinstalled and everything worked normal.

by: Chris10/03/2022

Was not aware this device draws on the battery constantly. I don't daily drive my truck and have had to replace the battery twice in one month due to being drained below the point where they could be recharged. $[XX] later and this controller removed, I've not had any problems with the battery

by: Scott09/18/2022

This brake controller has to be unplugged when not in use or it drains the battery in a few days. I had to have a electrical test done in my vehicle ($XXX). The etrailer tech said the test was done incorrectly. The Chevy dealer claims it was accurate. I’m left with a problem.

by: Earl 08/21/2023

Needed a brake controller I could rely on because I was pulling my camper to a site at the top of a 25% grade within a few days. Unit plugged right into the harness for the factory brake controller (with the adapter cable) on my 2014 Ford F-150,and worked perfectly. Bluetooth connectivity works through the app (rather than through the phone's "settings" icon),and connects instantly. I'm very pleased with this product.

by: Dave04/15/2015

Installed on a 2014 dodge ram 1500... The wires took literally 2 seconds to find under the dash, per etrailers instructional video, and took another to 2 seconds to clip on the pigtail. Hooked up the brake controller and powered up fine. Haven't got a chance to use it yet since the car hauler is about 400 ft back on the property and I got the truck stuck going back to try and get it. Its awdul muddy here in michigan in April. Hopefully some warm weather soon so I can get to it and try this controller out! I ordered it on Wednesday, did 2nd day shipping and called to insure I could receive it by Friday, the lady on the phone had them ship it, within ten minutes I had a confirmation email.

by: Patrick03/28/2022

As first time truck and pop-up trailer users, we initially purchased a cheaper brake controller that required drilling the dash. This is a new truck, so we decided to switch and spend more for the Bluetooth. etrailer was easy to work with for a return, and the Bluetooth brake controller is fantastic - so easy to use with our new trailer!

by: Chris 08/20/2022

I really wanted a trailer brake controller that I didn’t have to stick an ugly knob/box hanging off my dash. This was my solution and it works perfectly. Plugged right into my Honda Ridgeline existing plug, and easily connected to the app on my phone. Nice setup.

by: Paul08/29/2022

I was looking for a trailer brake controller that did not require a permanent mounting to the dash or center console of my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. I initially considered the wireless bluetooth controller from Curt Echo that plugs directly into the 7-pin outlet next to the tow hitch. However, reviews from individuals that tow RV trailers identified that particular option prevents the 12v battery on the trailer from charging off of the TV while connected. This would limit the RV utilization during long trips involving boondocking.
The Curt Echo under-dash controller seems to solve that problem and uses the same user interface as the Curt Echo.
Easy to install and operate; problem solved!

by: Michael 04/05/2023

Easiest install ever !
Plug and play.
App is easy understand and use.
My favorite is with the app and on selected active profile you can see the amount of brake amount is being applied to the trailer when the vehicle brakes are applied. I also install the manual override button. FYI: you don’t need the app on your phone open for the controller or the manual override button to work. Also another nice feature of the manual override button is the size about the size of a quarter, uses a CR2032 battery and the battery level is displayed in the app.

by: James 12/19/2023

This was relatively easy to install under the dash of our 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially since ours has the factory Trailer Tow Package and therefore an existing pigtail connector ready to connect to the brake controller. The Curt wiring adapter made it super easy to connect the Brake Controller to the vehicle's wiring harness. The controller was easy to calibrate and worked seamlessly while we're towing a rented trailer. We used a dedicated (older) cell phone to operate it while we're towing to avoid any potential interference from other apps rather than using our regular phone on which we receive phone calls texts, etc. This was our first time towing a trailer and this easy-to-use Brake Controller helped make us feel safe and comfortable. Highly recommended.

by: Alan03/12/2024

Do not buy either the Curt Under-Dash or plug-in Wireless brake controllers until Lippert fixes the phone app. I’ve used both happily with the old ECHO Smart Control app. I could use the remote manual button with the phone app not even running. As one would reasonably expect the button talked to the controller directly via Bluetooth. The new OneControl Auto app must be running and in the foreground to use the manual remote! And the most recent version of ECHO Smart Control is non-functional, it just tells you to install OneControl Auto.

by: Matthew 11/25/2023

The break controller worked seamlessly. Profiles are easy to set up and it has very reliable Bluetooth connectivity with my phone. Installation was really easy on my Honda Pilot!

  • Wiring Brake Controller to Under Dash Wiring of 2021 Ford Ranger
We had the chance to install a brake controller in a similar Ranger as your 2021 model and when using standard brake controller wiring like with the # C51515 to install the Curt Echo Mobile # C27JR the yellow/orange goes to the black wire, the blue wire is going to go to the blue wire, the white wire is going to go to the white wire, and the violet with white stripe goes to the red wire.

Generally when the Curt Echo Under-Dash # C27JR says the 7-way is disconnected but it isn't, the issue is actually the 7-way is problematic, either on your vehicle or trailer. I'd check to make sure the 7-way on both does not have bent pins, or corroded or damaged in some way.

This kit contains everything you need to upgrade the 4-flat to a 7-way, including all of the necessary wires for a brake controller. • Brake Controller Wiring Harness for Curt Brake Controller and 2014 Ram 1500
There is a special brake controller wiring harness required by the 2014 Ram 1500. It plugs into 2 places instead of just one like other trucks. It isn't a diode issue just an issue that where a controller plugs in the proper signal needed by the brake controller isn't present. So manufacturers determine where that signal can be obtained and developed new harnesses that plug in at 2 locations. For the Curt Reflex you would need wiring harness # C51453 for your 2014 Ram. • Adding a 7-Way and Trailer Brake Controller to a 2017 Subaru Outback with Factory Trailer Connector
You can add a brake controller to your 2017 Subaru Outback but there isn't a plug-in harness to do so. To activate the trailer brakes your Outback and trailer will need to have 7-Way trailer connectors. On the vehicle side you are only doing some hardwiring and you will use the existing 4-Way connector on the vehicle to do some of the installation. What you will need on the vehicle side is installation kit # ETBC7 and a brake controller. I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to...

  • Can the Curt Discovery Brake Controller # C51120 be Installed in a 2014 Ram 1500
I spoke with Curt and they informed me that you can use the Curt Discovery Brake Controller part # C84VV in your 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie as long as you use the install harness part # C51453. It sounds like someone removed the connector from the end of your brake controller wiring, what you would need to do to wire up your controller to the # C51453 would be to cut off the black connector on the harness and match the wires up color for color.

Typically on vehicles like your 2014 Ram 1500 that have brake controller pre-wiring and an install harness like part # C51453 is used this issue indicates that the problem is the brake light circuit on the...

The 2013 Dodge Ram has a unique wiring situation that requires a special wiring harness in order for the brake controller to work properly. For Curt that harness is # C51453. If you are not using the correct harness, then you would not be getting the proper brake signal when you step on the brake pedal.
