Trailer Brake Controller Applies Trailer Brakes when Headlights on 2013 Dodge Ram are Turned On

Question:
I have a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 with a Curt Triflex Brake Controller. When the lights go on my Brake Controller applies the Brakes on my trailer. As far as I can tell it is hooked up properly. Everything is fine until the lights come on and then the brakes go on. Do you know why this is happening?

The 2013 Dodge Ram has a unique wiring situation that requires a special wiring harness in order for the brake controller to work properly. For Curt that harness is # C51453.
If you are not using the correct harness, then you would not be getting the proper brake signal when you step on the brake pedal. It sounds like the input wire to the brake controller or the output wire to the trailer brakes is somehow attached to an illumination circuit which will not work.
