Thank you for the follow up! The hitch and wiring will have you set to go but since you're planning on towing at least a 3,500 lb trailer you'll also need a brake controller. This will help you control the trailer and keep it from pushing your X5 when you come to a stop. For your application I recommend picking up the Curt Echo Under-Dash Wireless Brake Controller # C27JR because you'll be able to install it under your dashboard so the interior of your vehicle doesn't get cluttered. You'll adjust the settings of the controller via the Apple/Android app and then you just need your phone screen open when driving so you can operate the manual override if need be. You can opt for the Manual Override Button # C83HR as well if you prefer to take your phone out of the equation. Attached are some videos for you to check out!

Adding an extension to your 7-way would not negatively affect the performance of the Curt Echo Mobile #C51180 that you referenced. As long as all of the circuits are active the extension would not have any affect on anything.
