Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • What is a #84 Spindle and How Do I Know I Have One On My Trailer?
The #84 spindle is just a common way to identify the spindle dimensions typically used for 3,500 lb axles. So instead of listing out the parts, people can just say they have #84 spindles and it's easier to know what fits it. The CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # CE13515 uses the following parts: Inner bearing: L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) Outer bearing: L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) Grease Seal: 58846 (1.719" inner diameter and 2.565" outer diameter) As long as this matches what...

  • Replacement Hub for Load Rite 19R20 Trailer
Hi Don; I wasn't able to find anything with the model number and even if I could, I would only be guessing at the axle size for a replacement hub. You will need to identify your axle to find the right hub. You can either look for an axle tag or pull the existing hubs off to check bearings. Then you can look for the bearing part numbers or measure the inner diameter with a digital caliper # PTW80157. The # 8-258-50UC1-EZ you asked about is designed for 2,200 lb axles with # L44649 inner...

  • Replacement Parts for EZ Loader Boat Trailer
Hello again Steve; sorry for the trouble, sometimes our system doesn't play nice with pictures. I'm not seeing any calipers or rotors in the parts diagram there, only standard idler hubs. I can tell you that the bearings are # L68149 and # L44649 with the # 168255TB grease seal. If you're wanting to completely replace the disc brakes the exact part doesn't really matter as much. The Kodiak Disc Brakes - 10" Hub/Rotor - 5 on 4-1/2 # KOD77FR will work as an oil bath replacement and come...

  • Spare Hub for 2024 ShoreLand'r BLACKSHORE ARM'R 2 Boat Trailer
Hi Dan; did you just figure this out? I see you ordered the # CE13515 which fits a standard 3,500 lb axle with a #84 spindle. The only way I have to identify replacement hubs without you removing everything is with the axle tag on your trailer.

  • Looking For Pre Greased Hub For Karavan Trailer Part 310-0347-A
Thanks for reaching out, Michael, and yes, I can help. I looked up the Karavan part number 310-0347-A and it appears this is a hub for a standard 3,500 lb axle. It uses the # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) inner bearing and the # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) outer bearing. They mention it is a 5 bolt hub, so I assume it is the standard 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern since the rest of the specs seem to be standard. We do offer a great replacement for this hub, and for that I recommend the...

  • Do I Need to Use Outer Washer with CE Smith Trailer Hub # 13515
Hey Dale, you do not need to use an outer bearing washer with the CE Smith hub part # CE13515 that you referenced. You can put it on your spindle without one and it will be just fine. Are you wanting this as a backup or do you need a new huib?

  • Looking For Pre-Grease Hub Assembly For 2008 Bear Trailer
Hey William, thanks for reaching out. Yes a spare hub is definitely a good idea. I can certainly point you in the right direction, but there isn't a way to look up your trailer to know exactly what hubs it uses. There isn't a universal database for trailers like there is for motor vehicles. We can still find out what you need though. The best way to determine exactly what you need is with the casting number on your hub. Idler hubs should have a number cast on the back and we can usually...

  • What Kind of Grease is in the Galvanized CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly CE13515?
Hey Randy! The CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly w/ Carrying Case item # CE13515 comes pre greased with a marine formula grease like item # L54FR. It'll fit 3,500 lbs axles with #84 spindles. I can't speak for what's on the shelf in your area but CE Smith is a reputable company that stands by their products. As far as galvanized hubs go, these are at the top of our options quality wise. What kind of trailer do you have?

If you're just needing replacement bearings, races and grease seals, you'll need the following per hub: • # L44649 Outer Bearing • # L68149 Inner Bearing • # L44610 Outer Race • # L68111 Inner Race • # 168255TB Grease Seal If you're wanting to replace the entire hub, you'd use # CE13515 for a galvanized hub or # CE13511 for black powder coated. The bearings, races and seal is pre-installed and the bearings are already packed with grease, but the included grease seal would be incorrect...

  • Replacement Hub for 2008 EZ Loader Boat Trailer
Hi Jonathan; I'm sure we have a replacement hub for your dad's 2008 EZ Loader boat trailer. However, you will need to identify the axle or the bearing combination to know what fits. Try checking the axle tag to see if it is listed. If not, you will need to pull the hub and check for part numbers on the old bearings or measure the inner diameter of the bearings if no part numbers are listed. This is a precise measurement so it should be done with digital calipers like # PTW80157. You will...

  • Solution for Replacement Hubs on 1980s Boat Trailer With Short Spindles
Hi Michael; it sounds like you have the old style spindles that are extra short. Unfortunately, nobody makes hubs that fit these anymore. You can try a salvage yard or something like eBay but no modern hubs will fit. For most people the solution is to replace the axle. To find the right replacement axle you will need to know the capacity as well as the hub face length. If you have a metal axle tag the information may still be visible on the tag. If not, the bearing combination and axle...

  • Can Timbren Axle Less System be Used for Off Road Trailer
Hey Paul, yes you can use the Timbren Axle Less kit part # ASR2KHDS03 on a utility trailer for an off road application. Most of the time that's what these kits are used for. Then for an idler hub you'd just need the part # CE13515 and you'd be set. This has the very common trailer bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2 inch but if you need something else just let me know.

The Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3.5K Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 item # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K, you referenced will definitely fit your trailer. Hey Blake! Are those disc brakes or drum brakes? The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX56FR you were looking at is designed for disc brakes, fits a 3" x 5" tongue, and has a 2" coupler so it will fit a 2" ball. If that matches what you have now this will work as replacement. If you have drum brakes the equivalent would be the # DX83FR. Hi Justin; I'm sorry to say the information you gave me cannot be used to identify the replacement hubs for your trailer. Even the GVWR doesn't indicate axle capacity since the manufacturers pull out the tongue weight from that figure when choosing the axles. You might have 2,700 lb axles that use hubs like the # DX77UR you looked at or they could even be overrated 3,500 lb axles using a hub like # CE13515. • Info Needed to Pick Out Trailer Axle Replacement Hubs
Hey Mike, I would need more info to pick out replacement hubs for your boat trailer. Since we know they are Dexters you could look for a part number on the hub somewhere. You could find the axle capacity on the axle tag, you could get me the diameter of the axle, or you can pull a hub and get me bearing numbers/dimensions of spindle where the bearings ride. If you can get me that info I can see what you'd need.
