Old drum brakes that drag or no longer grab can make towing stressful. The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit #23-47-48 drops right into place with left- and right-hand 7" x 1-1/4" brake assemblies and a 4-bolt backing plate pattern. The kit includes mounting bolts and nuts and fits most standard hub-and-drum setups rated from 2,000 lbs to 2,200 lbs. Once bolted on, all you need is an electric brake controller—no hydraulic lines or actuators required.
These brakes use long-lasting pads that are fully bonded to the shoes instead of riveted, giving more even friction and stronger braking torque. The result is smoother stops and dependable control, even after miles of wear. Adjuster plugs keep dirt and debris out so the internal components stay protected for longer service life.
If you like to do your own maintenance, these brakes are built for easy setup. Each assembly uses just two wires to connect to your trailer’s brake circuit—you can seal them with heat-shrink connectors for water resistance. Periodic manual adjustment is simple: remove the adjuster plugs and use a flathead screwdriver or brake spoon to fine-tune pad contact in minutes.

The 7" x 1-1/4" dimensions match standard drums used with 10", 12", and 13" wheels on light-duty axles. The 4-bolt mounting flange has spacing that fits most Dexter, Lippert (LCI), and similar axles, so compatibility checks are straightforward. When the specs match your drums—7" diameter, 1-1/4" wide—you can expect a direct fit that delivers solid braking performance without modification.

It is unusual that this is happening with the brakes. I would like to ask a question before I reach out to the manufacturer. How tight are the wires when attached to the trailer wires? The brake and the ground wires. Have you notice the brake clip being out of place when you look at the brakes?

After one year and over 2000 miles of use, no problems at all. Again, high marks.
