Adding Trailer Brakes to a Little Guy Meerkat Trailer

Question:

Wondering what we need to get to install brakes on a Dexter #9 axle? It is on a Little Guy Meerkat Trailer. It has no brakes whatsoever did not come with them. Buying it used. We need to add brakes and a brake controller. We do not know what we need to get to put brakes on this trailer.

Since the Torflex number 9 axle is a 2,000 lb capacity axle and I was able to determine that your Little Guy Meerkat Trailer has wheels that have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern the correct hub/drums you'd need to add brakes would be the Dexter part # 8-257-5UC3-EZ and then for brake assemblies # 23-47-48 and you'd be set. Most likely the trailer came with a 4-way connector so to upgrade it to a 7-way the easiest way is with the junction box kit part # HS381-9000.

When it's time for a brake controller you could use the Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180 which is a wireless option that would work great. All you need is a smart phone synced to it and it's ready to go without any wiring for install.
