Features to know about

Smooth and Steady Towing: High-Strength 3,500 lb Axle Handles the Load

A worn or bent axle can throw everything off—tire wear, tracking, and ride feel. This Dexter trailer axle beam brings back the control with a 3,500 lb weight capacity and strong round-tube steel construction. The built-in camber keeps tire tread flat on the road under load for steady, straight-line towing and even wear across the tires.

Built-In Camber for Confident Tracking: Precision-Bent Steel Beam

The slight upward bend in the axle isn’t a flaw—it’s the secret to keeping your trailer tracking right. This engineered camber flattens under weight so the tires meet the pavement evenly from edge to edge. That means smoother acceleration, less drag, and more predictable handling mile after mile.

Simple, Ready-to-Mount Fit: 89" Hub Face and 74" Spring Centers

No need to guess at fitment. This axle comes with spring seats and brake flanges already welded in place at 74" centers and an 89" hub-face-to-hub-face length. The 2-3/8" outer-diameter tube matches common 3,500 lb hardware, so it drops right into standard leaf-spring setups.

Low Ride Height for Easier Loading: Underslung Design

With the spring seats welded to the underside of the axle, the leaf springs mount below it for a lower deck height. That makes loading and unloading simpler and keeps the trailer stable when parked. It’s a straightforward, durable design that just works.

Ready for Reliable Running Gear: Standard Spindles with 4-Bolt Flanges

The straight spindles are machined for L68149 inner and L44649 outer bearings, plus a 10-19 double-lip grease seal (2.565" OD, 1.719" ID). A 4-bolt brake flange is welded on and ready for standard electric or hydraulic brakes. Every detail is built for consistency and long-term dependability.

Diagram of Dexter trailer axle showing hub face (A) and spring center (B) measurement points for accurate axle sizing.

  • A — Hub face (A): Refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle (when hubs are mounted on the beam).
  • B — The spring center (B): Is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.

Diagram of Dexter trailer axle showing flange-to-flange (C) measurement across outer brake flanges for axle replacement reference.

  • C — Flange-to-flange (C) length: Measured from the outside of one brake flange to the outside of the one opposite. This length may be easy to obtain if you are replacing an axle, but it's important to note that this measurement is not the preferred method for determining which axle will best fit your trailer.

Thanks for the follow up.....just another example of etrailer.coms outstanding customer service. And, what a coincidence,......I was just on your website in the last couple of days looking at stuff for another trailer I plan to purchase in the next few weeks.BTW....I stand by my initial reviews....outstanding products, fair pricing, fast shipping, and outstanding customer service.

How sweet it is

by:
Super easy to swap out with the old axle, the bearings fit the spindles perfect. The spring perches and the axle itself were straight, would and will purchase from again!
by:
The spring center spacing was 74" as advertised. However, the information page made it sound like using this for my 74.5" spring spacing would be no big deal. I did manage to get it to fit but I will be watching this closely. There should be a statement on all trailer axles that stresses the importance of proper spring center distance or explain what is all involved in changing the spring mounting seat location.
by:
Great axle. Very pleased with it. I was shipped the wrong axle butt etrailer sent the correct one and I was able to ship the wrong one back later. Got me on the road a little quicker.
Other than that mishap,Ian pleased with the axle and would consider buying from etrailer in the future.
by:
Great service! Axle was a perfect fit! Best store for trailer parts. I'm looking for fenders now. Guess where I'm going to buy them. That's right, right here. I suggest everyone do the same and save yourself the headaches of other stores backorder and bad customer service!
by:
Good product. Installed easily and fit perfect. I was amazed how fast the axle was delivered. Made it easy to get my trailer back on the road.
Thanks for your fast service and great product.

Working great!! No problems with it at all. Very good product.

I was surprised at how easy this whole process was through etrailer. I was looking around locally for the same axle and found several of the same axle but all were around $200. I decided the next morning I would go get one locally, but then checked here and found axle a lot cheaper here. It was a Sunday night when I placed order and didn’t expect any response on my order till Monday but to my surprise about 1 hour later I got a email saying my order was processing and then a little while later another email saying was ready to ship, all on Sunday night. Order cane in the exact day they said it would. Will definitely be using etrailer for all my trailer items now. Easier than amazon. Thank you etrailer.
by:
I have no problem with etrailer great service fast shipping Great communication but the dexter axle I purchased had poor weld job on one side dexter needs better Final assembly inspection practices Again I have no problem with etrailer
by:
Shipping was much faster than expected. Customer service was excellent and a representative reached out to modify my order for faster delivery due to an item being back ordered. A replacement item was selected and everything arrived soon after order confirmation. All items arrived well packaged and exactly as I ordered it. I would definitely order from etrailer again.
by:
Both the axle and u-bolt kit installed on my trailer with no hassle at all. This is the first time I’ve order from etrailer. My order came way before the estimated delivery date, which is great for all the DIY’ers. The only complaint/suggestion that I have is to put the torque specs with the u-bolt kits. Over all the product is great.
by:
The products are first quality manufacturers and service after the sale is always very good. The staff is interested and considerate when helping to solve any technical or installation issues.
They will also work with integrity to help you choose the correct equipment application for your needs instead of trying to sell you something that you don't need.
I have recommended etrailer.com to several of my friends.
by:
It was a perfect replacement for my trailer. The axle bolted right up to my springs and the brakes even bolted up without problems.
by:
The axle I ordered worked great and after it was installed pulls even better than the one that was previously installed. Thanks to etrailer my old trailer is back on the road and the price was great. Thanks Again

  • Can I Upgrade 3,500 lb Axles to 5,200 lb Axles on a Budget
Thank you for reaching out! The best thing for your situation is to go with the 3,500 lb Dexter Axle # T3584F-8974 you are looking at. While you can upgrade your axles to the 5,200 lb # e55GR, you won't really see a benefit from it unless you also upgrade your trailer suspension and then reinforce the frame so it can safely handle the extra weight of your cargo. When you toss in the fact that you're wanting to use the same equipment from your old axles that also helps clear things up...

The 3,500 lb axle we offer that meets the 82-5/8 flange to flange measurement you mentioned you need is part # T3584F-8974. The spring to spring measurement for this axle is 74 inches. None of the axles we offer in this weight capacity have the 76 or 78 spring-to-spring measurement. The U-bolt mounting kit I recommend is part # APUBR-1. This includes the U-bolts, plates, and hex nuts needed for installation. If you are looking to buy new springs for your trailer you can check out the...

Hi Jeremy; to replace your axle you will need to know the hub face measurement (length) of your current axle. See the video below which explains how to measure. You will also need to match your spring center measurement which may involve cutting off and welding on new spring seats. The leaf springs don't really need to change since a higher capacity axle doesn't increase the capacity of the trailer. You will need new U-bolts, hubs, brakes, wheels, and possibly tires as well unless you...

  • Trailer Tires Showing Excessive Wear on Inside Edges of Tread
Typically a trailer axle will have some camber in it - some bend - such that when it is not loaded the tops of the wheels bow outward slightly, with the outside edges of the tire treads making first contact with the ground. This allows that when the trailer is loaded with weight the axle will be pushed downward to a flatter position with the tire treads level on the ground. Please refer to the linked photo showing an axle and its camber. With your trailer unloaded look at it from the rear...

Hi Mike, Yes, we are the trailer rim experts, which is why I can tell you there isn't a 4 on 4-1/2" trailer wheel. They were around way back in the 1960's but simply aren't a thing anymore, and that means no wheel. If you have no wheels at all and are in need of one, the best I can offer is a new axle that uses hubs with a normal bolt pattern, like the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with Standard Spindles # T3584F-8974 and Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-K. I would check the other one though. It looks like it's leaking at the pilot hole but I don't know how long that grease has been there. Hey Jon! A bent spindle is the most common cause of uneven tire wear like that so replacing it is a good idea.
